A few weeks later I learned what my mom meant when she said "she owns a few places"

Jack was not joking at all about wanting kids after meeting Tara. He looked at the Sunday newspaper and there's an orphanage in town. He had me go.

Come to see my mom owns the freaking place! There's a plaque and everything explaining it. Obviously she has a job, so wasn't here, but there's a plaque!

I think it's so people know that this place comes from a loving mother that wouldn't dream of letting kids be out homeless or in abusive homes. She built this place because of my brother.

The plaque says: "Mrs. Beets' son Brian Beets ran away from home at fifteen and tragically died. Afterwards she realized all the kids that needed a home and didn't want any other kid suffer a tragic death like her poor son. Taking all these kids in, they now live a healthy life, all excited for the day they get a loving family."

So at this open house we got to meet all these kids. Being dumb, I asked Jack what age he was looking for, and he said around five. Tara's age. She's six now though.

I was talking to one of the employees and she said she knows who I am. Go figure. My mom owns the place. I don't know why I didn't think of that. Jack then ran to me saying he found the most precious kids.

Two of them. He wants two of them. One was fine, but we're two people freshly out in the world. It's only been about a month.

Sure, he had an interview with a construction company, and I just got my first paycheck, and we had extra money coming in, but two?

They were adorable, I had to admit that. One was named Genesis and one was named Evangeline. They were five year old twins that Jack fell in love with. I got to know them and I honestly wouldn't mind being their dad.
