Chapter 7
Dimentio POV
I watched Luigi and the new girl walk back in. Luigi had a huge smile on his face, so I'm assuming she gave him some useful information. He kneeled down next to me. "So, what did she say?" I asked him. He beamed and pulled out a bunch of scrolls. I looked down at all of them, then looked over at Daisy. "Where did you get these?" I asked. She shrugged. "Long story." I wanted to keep asking questions, but Luigi interrupted, "These scrolls can lead us to the four keys we need to get to the Grey Prognosticus! Daisy already had one key, so we only need three more!" He beamed. It was hard not to smile when he was radiating positive energy like this. I took one of the scrolls. "Okay, so we just use these, get the keys, and get the book? Sounds easy enough." Maybe this plan really would work. The sooner I helped Luigi free the Man in Red, the sooner I could go off and do my own thing.
Luigi stared fidgeting and looked slightly uneasy. "What's wrong?" I asked him. He pointed to the scroll in my hands. "There is a key located in Sarasaland....but only Magicians can enter." My eyes went wide. "Wait, hold on, you're telling me that you are gonna send me in, alone, to get this key?" He nodded his head.
"What? But how can you trust me? What if I just get the key and leave?" Luigi smiled. "You won't do that."
Ugh, that green plumber was way to trusting. Someday that was going to get him seriously burned.
Just like L.
L trusted me, and I betrayed him. Now, here Luigi was, trusting me yet again. I didn't deserve it. I don't deserve his trust.
Why am I thinking this way? I don't care about any of this. If he trusts me, then that's his mistake.
".....Alright. So where do we go?"
Daisy stepped forward. "You can follow this map on the scroll. There is a magical door in the outskirts of Sarasaland. Not many can see it, and only Magicians can enter. I have no idea what awaits you inside, but whatever it is, you'll have to face it alone." I nodded. "Okay. I got this. This will be as easy. Like taking candy from a crying child."
Luigi looked into my eyes. "Dimentio? Has your magic returned yet?" I looked down at my hands. I would assume I would have most of my strength back by now. I snapped my fingers, teleporting behind Daisy. "Yep." She turned around and jumped. I laughed. "Ah ha ha! Did I scare you?" She had a slightly annoyed look on her face, and her cheeks turned pink. "No. Just didn't expect it. That's all." I laughed, then held out my hand to Luigi. "Well, then shall we be going?" He walked over and took my hand, then looked back at Daisy. "Are you coming with us?" He asked her. She shook her head. "No. I don't want to get involved in this stuff again. Just let me know if this works out. And...don't die." Luigi smiled. "We'll try not to." He looked down at me. I hated how he was taller than me, so I levitated myself. That's better.
He chuckled. "Okay, I'm ready."
I lifted my hand and snapped my fingers, causing us to teleport away, leaving nothing but a few ripples in our place.
Third Person POV
"Princess!" A toad called, as he ran up to Princess Peach. "We got got some information on the whereabouts of the unstable Man in Green and the psychotic clown!" Peach turned around. "Good! Be sure the plumber isn't harmed. I just want to help him." The toad nodded. "They have been spotted in a small town outside of Sarasaland." Peach's calm expression turned to a darker one. "Sarasaland? People still live there??" The toad nodded. "Yes, but only a few. Would you like us to send people after them?" Peach thought for a minute, before nodding. "Yes. I think that would be helpful. Just make sure the plumber is safe. I can't stress this enough. I want no harm to come to him." The toad nodded. "Yes. And what of the clown?"
Peach turned away and walked towards her window.
"That man came from and belongs in the Underwhere. Who can tell what horrible things he's doing to my poor friend. Do what you wish with him."
Daisy POV
I watched as those two guys vanished out of thin air. I let out a breath I seemed to be holding in, and sat down. How did my life get to this point? I was so desperate for human interaction that I just handed away all that stuff I worked so hard to get. I knew I gave up searching months ago, but still. It hurt just to give it all away.
Something about the green one, Luigi, I liked. He seemed trustworthy. Still, those two were probably walking to their deaths. Plus, that book is locked away for a reason. I wonder what he could possibly want with it. He clearly hasn't lost as much as me, but he seemed almost as desperate to get his hands on the book.
I heard voices outside. "They went in there, but I wouldn't go in, sir. The lady who lives here doesn't like visitors." I climbed up out of my room to the outside and looked around. Then I snuck down, using the bushes for cover. I looked over only to see the man who was chasing Luigi and his clown friend earlier, and two toad guards from the Mushroom Kingdom.
Oh no. Guards. Are they after me again?
I thought to myself. They gave up their search for me years ago, so they couldn't be looking for me. The first toad guard spoke up. "I have to find the two criminals. Princess's orders." I held in a gasp. Dimentio did say that they were being chased, but he also said that they were being mistaken for someone else.
I accidentally let down my guard, moving ever so slightly, causing the toad guards to look my way.
"Who's in there? Hello?"
Oh no. I panicked, and ran.
Luigi POV
Dimentio was able to teleport us away. His power was going to be SUPER helpful on this little adventure we're having.
I looked down and frowned.
Adventure.
This is one of the first adventure's I've been on without Mario by my side. Yeah, I've gone on a few, but having Dimentio here with me instead of Mario was really strange, and it made me a little sad. I miss him so much.
I looked at Dimentio. He seemed focused on the task at hand. I could see him thinking things through. He was probably trying to predict what he would have to face in order to get this key. I hope that's what he's thinking about. I mean, it's probably just as likely that he's planning a way to get out of this and leave me, but no. He seemed genuine when he said he would stay by my side until this was done.
I trust him.
I don't know if that's a mistake. It probably is, considering everything he's done in the past. Especially to me. I still get nightmares about him. He was locked away in the Underwhere for a reason. I honestly don't know why I trust him.
I guess I feel like everyone deserves a second chance...or maybe it's the fact that I am desperate and willing to do anything to get my brother back.
Or maybe it's the fact that I feel like we could be friends. I don't really remember what it was like being Mr. L. Most of those memories are fuzzy for me, but I feel like they were friends.
Dimentio snapped his finders to grab my attention. "Luigi? Luigi? Hello?" He asked. I looked at him. "Ah, sorry. Just lost in thought. Heh." He nodded. "Well, we're here."
I looked forward, and saw nothing. It looked like we were in the middle of nowhere. He looked at me. "You don't see it, do you?" I shrugged. He sighed. "Well, this is where it is."
He turned away from me. "Look, I don't know what's in there. I honestly have no way to plan or prepare for this, so if I fail and don't make it back, I'm sorry." This caught me off guard. "What? Don't say that. You're like, the strongest, scariest person in the universe. I know you'll make it." He chucked. "Uhh, thanks?" I smiled at him, then walked in front of him so I could meet his eyes. "I know you'll make it out. I trust you."
There was that word again. Trust.
I really did trust him.
He smiled at me, then walked forward. He appeared to walk into an invisible door, then he disappeared from my view. I stood there, alone again.
I never liked being alone, but I knew he'd come back.
