Lassiter holds Eva to him tight. He feels so much relief that she is still alive, that he has a chance to make things right. He lost her two, no three almost four years ago now. This last year so much had changed.
From the first, he thought of Eva as his little sister finding out nearly a year ago that she was in truth blew him away. His actions, his leaving without saying anything to her was the single most stupidest thing he's ever done. There is nothing that he can do to make that up to her.
Then failing her. It took more than four months for him to find her and then only after she helped him. Help that she didn't get until after she lost her baby.
He's never felt so much guilt about something. If he had been able to find her sooner she might have been able to have her child.
Eva has changed, he can tell. Of course it could just be the carnage that he witnessed in the compound. The Eva he knew always had a bit of darkness in her. She had needed it to have survived her life. But what he saw shows a rage similar to what Tristan gets. The thought of them both going into a killing rage at the same time makes him sick. Either there would be a great deal of death or one of them would kill the other. And that would absolutely destroy the one that lives once they come out of the killing rage.
Eva sighs and snuggles deeper into his arms.
"She did most of the killing before I could do much to help her. Lassiter, I swear, I didn't want her to be the one to kill." RJ says still a bit shocked at the brutal efficiency Eva showed in her kills.
Lassiter sighs, looking down at his sister then up to RJ. "I believe you. Eva held a great deal of anger. She was taken from Tristan after a hell day in court. Her best friend killed as well as one of her body guards. She makes friends with them all and so would have taken his death personally. You were chained up and forced to watch as they violated her multiple times.
"She knows what that would have done to you, the memories it would have brought back.
"Then losing her baby. A baby she was told would never happen. One that likely will never happen now.
"Seeing one of Tristan's men there talking to the man responsible for her losing the baby.
"The doctor being forced to work for that bastard to keep his family safe.
"Eva, is pragmatic, almost to a fault. But when she finds a wrong, when she has reached her limit or her family and friends are harmed it enrages her.
"I've seen her go against armed pimps when she was living on the street. She would take their guns from them and kill them with their own weapons. Then she would help the whore that was being abused and either help her find a good pimp or take her to the shelter that helped her get off the street.
"I've also seen her go against drug dealers that are out of control, high off their own products." Lassiter looks at a wide eyed RJ. "She only took the guns of those that were out of control. After making sure that they wouldn't harm anyone else she would take their gun and pawn it. Then she would take the money and buy food for the other homeless. Making sure that the drugs would get back to the boss of the dead drug dealer with a message of why their guy was dead.
"They never retaliated against Shadow because she kept the cops from being brought into things by taking out the dumbass user. They had no use for someone that would bring attention to them. As long as they got their money and drugs back they didn't care.
"I never knew just how many kills she had, but I know it was more than I knew about." Lassiter gives a humorless chuckle, "But I never saw her so angry as to take down an entire mafia before. Boss better make sure he doesn't piss her off or she'll take him down too."
Eva stirs, "He's already offered me his mafia. Not interested in the headache." She goes back to sleep.
"Why is she so tired?" Lassiter asks RJ.
"She's still recovering from nearly bleeding to death when she miscarried, lack of food, and slipping out of the cell most nights to do whatever the hell she was doing. She never told me what that something was. Probably gathering information to send to you." RJ says in concern for Eva. It had been several days since she lost the baby, she should have regained her strength from the blood loss by now.
"We're here, sir." The driver says as they pull into the airfield where Tristan stands waiting by his jet.
Lassiter doesn't want to wake Eva, so he lifts her up and carries her to Tristan.
Tristan looks at Lassiter, "She's just tired and in need of food." Lassiter says softly not wanting to wake Eva up.
Tristan eagerly takes Eva from Lassiter's arms and climbs the stairs to enter his jet. He inhales deeply of Eva and for the first time in months something in his chest loosens allowing him to breathe freely.
Lassiter takes Eva so that Tristan can buckle himself in. Then he buckles Eva in at his side. Lassiter looks for a blanket and spreads it over Eva.
"Any trouble getting the bitch into the cells?" Lassiter asks as he tucks Eva in.
Tristan chuckles and the sound sends shivers down the spines of those in the plane. "No, when she found out that her brother had fallen and Eva was on her way home she went into shock. Didn't give me any trouble at all. But I didn't stay long enough to chain her up myself." Tristan gently moves a lock of hair off Eva's face. "I had better things to do, like meet my wife after four long months away from her."
"Tristan, you need to see what she did." Lassiter pulls out his laptop and a thumb drive. His fingers fly over the keyboard pulling up the files that he wants Tristan to see.
Tristan takes the laptop and silently watches his wife as she coolly and calmly goes through the compound and either killing or taking prisoner every member of the mafia she finds.
"She find them all?"
"She said that one of the ones that raped her was killed when she first left her cell. She couldn't see his face or she would have subdued him instead of killed him. She was rather upset that he died so quickly and was afraid that you would be upset."
Tristan looks up at Lassiter with those words. "Why would I be upset at her killing one of those bastards?"
"She thought you might have liked to have fun with him first. She said that she had plans that she ruined."
Tristan gives a faint smile at those words. "I'll make sure that she has full access to the prisoners to give them her full attention."
Lassiter sits back and closes his eyes. He was afraid of that, but he fully expected it as well. There is always the chance that Eva won't take him up on the offer. Not much of a chance, but still a slim one.
