Chapter 38

Zoya had visited her in the morning and the family decided to give them personal space to talk about thing. Zoya broke out in tears the moment she saw Misha and sniffed until Misha calmed her down.

"I am the one supposed to be crying. Why are you crying?" Misha put on her best smile to stop her best friend from crying.

"I am just happy you are okay. I hardly got to sleep at night." Zoya said as she wiped her tears and hugged Misha who hugged her back. "It's my fault. If only we hadn't gone out that day," Zoya looked back to make sure no one was listening before she whispered, "none of that would have happened."

"It would have happened eventually, Zoe, this is something we couldn't avoid." Misha said in defeat and Zoya nodded her head. "Don't blame yourself. I am just glad nothing else happened."

"You know, he carried you to the car and then drove like a mad man to the hospital." Zoya started to speak. "I was so confused and afraid. I had no idea what I should have done. It's like my brain stopped working all of a sudden. Fahad told me to lie to the family about the robbery. Ibraheem didn't want to leave, he looked like he was the one who was shot instead. He looked so miserable but I don't feel any sympathy for him, he is most of the reason why all of this happened in the first place."

"You are right but, I had the gun in my hand and I shot myself." Misha said in a low voice.

"Speaking of, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? WERE YOU SERIOUSLY GOING TO KILL YOURSELF?" Zoya's voice rose and Misha quietened her down.

"Nooo. Am I crazy? I just wanted to scare him but it backfired. Literally." Misha rolled her eyes.

"Well, I am just glad we survived it." Zoya sighed as she held Misha's hand. "I just hope he doesn't show up here now and cause another scene."

"He won't." Misha said with assurance and Zoya narrowed her eyes at Misha in suspicion. "I talked to him last night."

"YOU WHAT?" Misha ssh-ed Zoya who had gotten up from her seat but then sat back down.

"He just showed up out of nowhere and started crying. He kept begging me for forgiveness. I was so drained and tired mentally and physically that I just said whatever came to my head and he agreed to it." Misha recalled last night and realized that what she had said a few hours ago didn't really make sense to her so what exactly did Ibraheem understand from it? But she decided to ignore it for now.

"You both are crazy tbh." Zoya said as she sighed in defeat. "I can't handle you both. It's like talking to two walls." Misha laughed at that.

"Probably."

"You don't love him, do you?" Zoya narrowed her eyes and Misha looked at her in shock for even suggesting that.

"No!" Misha refused immediately.

"Ahan?" Zoya's eyes narrowed and Misha nodded her head eagerly. "Okay then. Well what are you going to do about him?"

"I have got no clue."

"Allah will find a way."

"InshaAllah."

.....

It had been five days since Misha's operation and she was getting discharged tonight. Ibraheem hadn't bothered her at all which had frankly surprised her and in fact, he had even refrained from visiting her because Misha sternly told him not to. He was being oddly obedient which didn't fit his nature. She knew one thing, she wasn't in love with Ibraheem but it was more like she had accepted the reality that it wasn't easy to get rid of him. He was like this leech, no, not a leech but like this inevitable truth that she had to face eventually. He was like a fear she had to overcome somehow.

Every time she had tried to get rid of him, something bad had happened. When she had left him on seen and lied to him, he showed up at Tuscany to scare the life out of her, when she rejected his confession, he showed up to kidnap her. From her perspective, complying with him brought less stress for her because he didn't go bat shit crazy on her and right now all she wanted was peace in her life. But that didn't mean she was going to go with whatever he said. She concluded that he would eventually give up and leave her alone when he gets over her obsession so all she needed to do was bid time till then.

Ibraheem would message her from time to time saying he was sorry and ask her how her recovery was going but apart from that, Misha could tell he was holding back on saying anything that could scare her away. They had a weird relationship that Misha couldn't understand. It was such a bipolar and spontaneous thing that she never knew what to expect.

When night time came and Misha was discharged, Ibraheem watched from his car in the parking lot as Misha balanced on one leg and used a crutch while walking towards the car with two of her brothers standing side by side to help her incase anything happens. She looked beautiful no matter what she did, Ibraheem thought as he watched her sit in a car. Kamran had went back to Karachi because his father had called for him and he himself had his flight tomorrow as well along with Fahad who had stayed behind to make sure he doesn't do anything messed up.

Fahad was shook to see that Ibraheem was offering namaz every now and then, it was a hard pill to swallow but after the first two days he somehow got used to it. He knew what Ibraheem was asking for in his duas, he had a feeling it somehow went on the lines of,

'Ya Allah, please give me Misha.'

Or

'Ya Allah, make her fall for me as well.'

Fahad didn't believe in the power of love until he saw his best friend become a victim of it. After seeing him like this, he was genuinely dreading ever falling for someone. Just when Fahad thought Ibraheem couldn't change anymore, he went and did something none of them ever thought he would do.

Ibraheem Narejo quit drinking.

.....

One week after Misha was discharged and Ibraheem was back in Karachi and things seemed pretty cool, Misha decided to drop a bomb on Ibraheem.

You know we can never be together. - Misha

Why not? Because of your family? - Ibraheem

Yes, that too but even if my family agreed, they would reject you because our worlds are too far apart. - Misha

What do you mean? – Ibraheem

Ibraheem, you drink, you party and you probably do drugs as well. My family is too religious to accept any of those traits in you no matter how liberal they ever get. - Misha

I don't do drugs. - Ibraheem

But you aren't denying the other things. - Misha

So if I don't drink or party, will they accept me? - Ibraheem

I mean, you won't be instantly rejected if that is what you are asking me. - Misha

Alright then it is decided. - Ibraheem

What is? - Misha

I promise that from this day forth, I am not going to drink or party. - Ibraheem

I doubt that promise is going to last even a week. - Misha

You are wrong. If it means, I can bridge the gap between us then I can leave it as many times as you want me to. - Ibraheem

Good luck with that. I would be happy if you could do this, honestly. – Misha

Anything for you. For us. - Ibraheem

And just like that, when Fahad and Kamran asked Ibraheem to drink away his worries at a party, Ibraheem flatly refused and said, "I have stopped drinking. Nothing good ever comes out of me drinking. I need to bridge the gap."

"What gap?" Fahad asked astonished.

"The gap." Ibraheem answered stubbornly and Kamran started laughing at his cousin while Fahad shook his head in defeat.

Fahad concluded one thing, he was definitely never going to fall in love if this is what it takes. Never.

Meanwhile in another city, somewhere far, far away in Lahore, Misha had concluded the same thing. She was not going to fall for Ibraheem no matter what he did for her or for them. Never. But she had forgotten one crucial thing.

You cannot avoid fate no matter what you do.
