Chapter Two
Melody's P.O.V.
I flicked my tail and gasped when I felt my muscles below my waist move with it. Then I found myself grinning. I had a real Mermaid tail! I laughed and did a back flip, my new tail flipping with me. I giggled and fingered my hair. My once dyed orange hair--I had been a brunette--now was a deep blood red, just like Princess Ariel's was. I smiled. I twirled around, my purple shell bra staying tight on my breasts, until I bumped into something.
"Ouch," I muttered, and rubbed my hip, glancing over my shoulder to find out what hit me. I did a double take, before my eyes widened in recognition.
It was the statue of Prince Eric looking noble.
I gaped, my mouth flopping open helplessly. No. . .why this part? It was too painful. I couldn't bear to watch!
I turned around to swim out of Ariel's secret cave, when I saw him in all his blue-tailed glory, golden pointed crown resting atop his now snow white hair from age, powerful Trident held in his right hand. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't even speak. I just gulped nervously.
King Triton. Ariel's father. And I knew what was going to happen next.
"I consider myself a reasonable Merman. I set certain rules, and I expect those rules, to be obeyed!" Triton yelled, and I flinched at his tone.
Words that weren't my own spilled out of my mouth, "But, Daddy, I-"
"Is it true, you rescued a Human from drowning?"
"Daddy, I had to-," What was I saying? This wasn't me. This wasn't my father. Unless-
I really was Ariel instead of Melody.
"Contact between the Human world and the Mer world is strictly forbidden. Ariel, you know that! Everyone knows that!" He called me Ariel. I really was in this fairy tale.
"He would've died!" No! This wasn't me! I want to go back home!
"One less Human to worry about."
"You don't even know him!"
"Know him? I don't have to know him. They're all the same! Spineless, savage, harpooning fish-eaters! Incapable of any feeling-"
"Daddy, I love him!" I gasped and backed away slightly, my tail pushing me behind Eric's statue on instinct. I knew Triton's rage was going to be disastrous. So was it really helpful that I knew what was going to happen after watching this movie over and over again?
Triton froze. "No." Or not. "Have you lost your senses completely? He's a Human, you're a Mermaid!"
More words that weren't mine spilled out, and I dimly remembered them as Ariel's fight with her father over loving a Human. "I don't care."
"So help me, Ariel, I am going to get through to you. And if this is the only way," his Trident began glowing as he gripped it with both hands, and my eyes widened in fear, "so be it."
He started with blasting the globe, and then the candelabra, and I gasped, "Daddy! No! No, please! Daddy, stop! Daddy, stop it!" I yelled, after he had destroyed some picture frames and more of Ariel's little Human collection in her tiny Grotto. On instinct, I swam out from behind Eric's statue and tried to stop him, when his angry gaze landed on the statue. I gasped. "Daddy! No!" With a final blast of his Trident, King Triton destroyed the last of Ariel's belongings. And just like her, I cried.
Every time I watched this part in the movie, I always cried, no matter what. But now that I was living the experience, it was so much worse. As I continued to cry after telling Sebastian and Flounder to leave me alone, I got an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach, making me alert to my surroundings even more.
"Poor, child."
My head snapped up. I held my breath.
It was Flotsam and Jetsam. Ursula the Sea Witch's two pet Eels.
I gulped.
Things just got real.
