Chapter Fourteen
Zelda's P.O.V.
"Eugene!" I screamed his name after witnessing Mother Gothel stab him in the abdomen with the dagger she had in her hand. No! I wouldn't let her kill him!
After the lantern show, Eugene was about to kiss me when he suddenly had to go ashore. When he did, the next thing I knew, I was ganged up by the two thugs who had once been partners with Eugene, and couldn't help but cringe inside when I knew what was coming next.
Mother Gothel had taken me back to the tower--who I had to keep myself from strangling just because she deserved it--and Eugene had gotten locked up while being set up for stealing the crown. Which he did, of course, but was going to give it back.
Now after learning that Rapunzel was the lost Princess to the Kingdom and wanted to escape Mother Gothel, that's when she took me captive. I knew Eugene was going to escape his death, and that the first place he would go searching for me would be the tower. That's where everything would fall apart.
After promising Mother Gothel I wouldn't fight her and would go with her willingly if she let me heal him, she conceded and I quickly ran over to where Eugene was struggling to breath with his freshly drawn wound. I grabbed Rapunzel's long golden hair and placed it over the stab wound just as Eugene said my name, and I looked up with tears in my eyes.
It seemed like he was about to kiss me, when he suddenly grabbed my hair and took a shard of the broken mirror before slicing my hair off with it. I gasped and gripped my now short brown hair as I watched the blonde turn brown, and Mother Gothel panic as she started to age right before my eyes. Then Pascal used a strand of hair to trip her as she fell out the open window and turned to dust. She was gone just like that.
I then tried to heal Eugene as I sang the song to heal, but nothing happened. "Rapunzel," Eugene breathed raggedly. "You were my new dream," he whispered, and I choked out a sob.
"And you were mine," I said, the words coming naturally to me as he finally dropped his hand from my cheek, and tears pooled in my eyes. I closed my eyes and pressed our foreheads together and whispered the words under my breath, "Heal, what has, been hurt. Change, the fate's, design. Save, what has been lost. Bring back what once was mine," I choked on another sob, "What once, was mine." One of my tears fell onto Eugene's cheek and blended in with his skin.
Then the magic started.
That one tear had drained all the way down to Eugene's knife wound as gold strands blossomed from the crimson and designed a flower of gold, one I recognized almost immediately as the gold faded and Eugene's wound completely disappeared. I pushed Rapunzel's short hair back from my eyes as I watched Eugene's eyes flutter open. "Rapunzel?"
I gasped, a wide smile growing on my face. "Eugene?"
Eugene let a small smile grow on his lips. "Did I ever tell you I've got a thing for brunettes?"
I laughed, before tackling him in a hug as he held me close against his chest. I laughed again and pulled away only to grab him by the collar of his tunic and pull him in for a kiss--one that I've been waiting for--when instead of his lips meeting mine, there was a blinding purple light that changed my surroundings until I stood before a familiar Wishing Well in Andalasia, a completely different movie from the previous one I was in, and recognized my normal clothing of capris and baggy sweatshirts. I kinda missed these things after prancing around in a dress all day.
I looked all around me at the other three girls, and smiled. I wasn't the only one! I glanced to my right where one more bright light shone through the air, and thought to myself, Well, I guess there's one more to add to the bunch.
