Chapter 1

Aurora

Knuckles white on the steering wheel as I drive through the tiny town I now call home, Siiverwood. I had to leave everything behind, my family, pack and job. The sun kissing my skin illuminates my melanated complexion giving it an ethereal glow. As the songs of sad country songs play on the radio, I can't help but think of what led me here in the first place. My "mate".

Four Months Ago

My wolf was so excited for tonight, but I was extremely nervous twirling my freshly twisted hair in between my fingers. I really didn't feel as connected to the pack as I should've as an Alpha's daughter. According to them, I should live to serve the pack. The constant reminder that everything I do I should do for the pack in some respects I understood but it's not the life I wanted for myself. Ever since I was younger, I always had a fascination with space. The seemingly endless sky and the beautiful twinkling of the stars that burned millions of miles away. I always found myself drawn to it. My silverish white colored hair reflected my love of the night sky. As all werewolves feel connected to the moon, my connection was physically shown my white hair and silver eyes was a stark contrast from my beautifully richly melaninated skin and my freckles that were spread like the stars on my face. Since this was my first mate ball hosted by the pack, I knew I had to look my best as ambassador. I sigh annoyed. I put on my floor length mermaid style white mermaid dress I had just bought. I put on my silver stilettos and walk to the ballroom.

I go grab a drink and try to hide in the corner, but I am interrupted by wolf after wolf, all I wanted to do was get out here. I did not like the sinking feeling I was getting. I was on edge. And then I smell him, my mate. Caramel with light notes of vanilla. Following the smell, I see him, my mate. Both Aura and I actually in agreement with excitement we pushed through the crowd running and I finally got to where our mate was, and my heart shattered there. He was kissing another woman and rubbing her pregnant belly happily until he smelled me. He looked over. I recognized him as Seth the Alpha of our neighboring pack. I looked at the woman he was with, and she was heavy with a child. My whole world came crashing down. I started hyperventilating.

"It was supposed to be me." I whispered. "He was supposed to be my mate." I shook my head and ran, I needed to get out of there. I couldn't stand it.

Sitting on a cliff overlooking the lake as the moonlight illuminates the water, feeling the wind blow against my face softly kissing my skin blowing my thick curly hair up I had previously twisted, the smell of pines and earth fill my nose allowing my mind to clear and a wave of peace fills my body. My wolf Aura whines sadly. I can't help but feel a bit sad for her. Tonight, we were supposed to find our mate, but life had other plans when our fated mate had a pregnant chosen mate. She wants me to go back for him to explain that maybe it wasn't as bad as what we saw but I remind her that we saw his tongue down her throat she almost burned in anger. I let a single tear slip he didn't want us. My mind flashes back to the events that happened earlier.

I heard a branch snap from behind me and then I smell vanilla and caramel its him the son of our neighboring pack Seth.

"Shouldn't you be with your pregnant mate." I growled

"But I want you I never wanted her my parents wanted me to find a mate and I –"He starts and I interrupt him.

"What- had no choice?" I spat "You always have a choice you just chose poorly."

"Its not that simple. I can't abandon my mate and baby, but I want there to be an us"

"NO! Don't you get it there is no us- there will never be an us I will not be the mistress I will not come between you and Aubrey just reject me and let me go." My silver eyes contrasting against my medium almond colored skin blazed in anger, my wolf Aura is begging me to stop, that we could work it out.

"No! I will not lose you when I just found you...I can't." He pleads.

"The minute you got another she wolf pregnant you did." I sigh "I Aurora Reynolds reject Seth Castiel as my mate. " I felt our connection was severed.

"No!" He dropped to his knees.

"Go back to your mate and unborn pup...Goodbye Seth." I transformed into my silverish wolf and ran. Not really paying attention to where I was headed so when I stopped in a clearing and let out a mournful howl and then shifted back and started crying.

End of Flashback

I couldn't be there knowing he'll be playing happy family with her and I'm stuck with the thoughts of what could've been. I packed up and left my parents and older brother all though were sad and understood and contacted the packs further out and I contacted my job for a transfer. I was sent here allowed to be alone and unbothered. And away from him, ugh i need a drink I pulled into the bar's parking lot.

I go into the bar and grab a seat in front of my favorite bartender.

"Ryan what's it gonna take for a girl to get a drink." I teased and he chuckled

"O keep giving me that sexy sweet smile baby girl and you'll get one for free." He joked he's a natural flirt then again, he'll flirt with any girl with a pulse, but honestly, he's been a good friend to me. We already established that we'd never do anything together and were just friends. I'm not looking for anything especially with my current life. He's a grizzly bear shifter. Shifters live in hiding amongst humans there are more humans than shifters but are numbers are increasing steadily.

"Ha yeah right you charge be every time I come in here Ry."

"Aye I do have a business to run Ro."

"I know Ry but one drink isn't gonna kill you." I pout

"You'll be fine Ro. The usual?"

"Yup." He slides me my drink.

"Long day Ro."

"Yeah, i spent all day tracking the mountain lion that keeps coming closer to town."

"Any leads?"

"Yeah." I push my wolf to the front allowing my eyes to flash a bit so he gets it. His bear comes to the front flashing yellow he got. The mountain lion is a shifter and a fairly new shifter. And we'll talk later.

I gotta get to her before the town hunters do, she's been killing their cattle.

"Anyway, come to my house later to-"

"Oh, I'll come to your house Aurora." I was interrupted. I roll my eyes. Nash.

"Did anyone ask you?" I spat.

"Oh, don't be like that Babydoll I can show you the time of your life." I smirked and I gagged.

"I wouldn't touch you with a ten-foot pole." He slid his body in the seat next to me and touched my leg. I took his hand and twisted his arm. He screamed and whimpered. "I did not ask to be touched by your grimy fingers now if you don't leave me alone, I will dislocate your shoulder."

"Yes." He whimpered. I let him go. And runs out the door. I roll my eyes again.

"So anyway, yeah come to my house after you get off." I move to leave, I throw a 10-dollar bill on the counter, and I left.
