Chapter 7: Robins & Mall Trips
Immediately, the sound of a childish cackle filled the speaker, and wouldn't stop. The ginger gave herself a head slap, and said to herself, "Hello Megan! It's Robin! But what's he doing with my number, calling me on a Saturday?" Megan said, "Robin? Is that you? What are you doing with my number? How did you even get my number?" The young voice replied chirpily, yet mysteriously, "I have my ways, Miss M." Megan replied, irritated in the slightest manner by the nickname, "Don't call me that, please! It sounds just too weird... Now, why did you call me?" Robin answered, "I just wanted to see if you had gotten the chance to tell Conner how you feel. The days are running out fast, so a quick response would be asterous." Megan said, "I haven't seen him since yesterday, Robin. Of course I wouldn't tell him! I'd be too embarrassed, and besides, I don't even have his number." The boy replied, "Well, you're in luck. I've got Conner's number right here, and I can give it to you, but you have to promise to talk with him, and set up a time to meet. He wasn't kidding, when he told me yesterday that he wanted you guys to get to know each other better. Oh, you know what? I already set up a mini date for you two at the "Cave". Oops!" Megan cried, "Robin! How could you?! You know I can't talk to Conner, let alone see him in public at a common student hangout place for Justice High! His date may see him, and she doesn't like me..." Robin remarked, "Who cares what that idiot of a girl thinks about you?! Conner doesn't deserve her; he deserves you. I've known him and you for both a good while, and it's clear she's not his type! She's just some dumb cheerleader, who is too busy caring about having the perfect hair, clothes, and nails, to even act like a decent human being! Besides, in all honesty, I think Conner would rather spend the night at home with his dog, than go to a dance, where he has to dress in a suit and tie. The guy just doesn't like suits, period. He decided to get the points off on a speech, for refusing to wear a suit and tie." Megan snickered to herself, and answered back, "Well, if you put it that way, I do like dogs. What is Conner's dog like?" Robin answered, "I think you should ask him that. It is his pet, and it could be a good conversation opener. I met his dog once, though. It's huge, but relatively respective and distant, only reacting to bite, when danger is sensed. Other than that, it's usually content taking a nap on the sofa." Megan questioned, "Okay....so when did you set the meeting up for?" Robin replied, a bit of slyness in his voice, "I set it up for this afternoon at two." Megan reacted, "TWO THIS AFTERNOON!? Robin, I don't think I can do it. It's too soon!" Robin replied, "You will do fine. Last I checked, he was a little hesitant to do it as well, but Wally convinced him to give it a shot." Megan sighed, and replied, "Okay...Robin. I'll be there." The boy answered, "Good!", then dropped the line. Megan removed the phone from her ear, and saw Artemis and Zee close by. Zee asked, "Who was that?" The ginger stuttered, "It was Robin. I don't know how he got my number, but he set me up to meet Conner at the "Cave" at two this afternoon." Zee exclaimed, "Oh Megan! That's wonderful! You finally have the chance to tell him how you feel!" Artemis explained, "Zee, don't you see she's a bit worried? She's practically shaking!" Megan looked down and saw that Artemis was right, she was shaking violently. Zee said in a calming tone, "Relax Megan. You have until two and Artemis and I can help you choose an outfit and can stay at the 'Cave' at a respectful distance in case something goes wrong." The girl nodded, then took a deep breath, saying, "Thanks guys. I am definitely the luckiest girl in the world, because I have you both." Hugging both Artemis and Zee, Megan continued, "Now what am I going to wear for this meeting? I don't want to look stupid or bad, especially in front of the hottest guy at school." Zee grinned excitedly, and asked, "Does that mean..." Artemis smiled, and replied, "Yep! A quick trip to the mall for a cool outfit, then to the "Cave" for your first date!!" Megan beamed, then raced off to go change into something suitable for the mall trip. After an hour, and after Artemis explained where she was taking Jade's car for the time being, the three girls piled into the black Lexus, and drove off to the mall. In the car, Zee asked, "How did you manage to not get yourself killed by Jade, when you asked to take her car? She seemed pretty mad, when you asked her." Artemis replied, slightly irritated, "I promised to do her chores for a month and to pick her up some make-up from the mall." Megan said calmly, "Well, that's intense." Artemis added, "Well, she's hugely intense about losing her precious car, so we're even." The car remained silent for the rest of the trip, and as they arrived at the mall, Artemis found an open parking spot, and veered it in, before shutting off the engine. Unlocking the doors, the three girls stepped out, and went inside, heading straight to Forever 21. When they got to the store, Zee and Artemis led Megan to the clothing section of the store, and literally began pulling clothes off the racks. The girl in question stood silent, as Zee jabbed a beautiful purple dress with a silver belt at the ginger. She exclaimed, "Oh Megan, this would look amazing with your red hair! Go try it on!" Artemis handed Megan a dress as well, and shoved her into the dressing room, saying, "Try those on, and let us know. We're gonna find some more." Shutting the door behind her, Megan slipped off her clothes, and tried on the purple dress, having trouble getting the back of the dress to zip. Realizing it wasn't a good fit or her color, despite Zee's best thoughts, Megan gingerly slipped it off, and tried on the one Artemis had found: a dark blue dress, with a red outline around the neckline and bottom hem of it. Deciding in the mirror, that it still wasn't the right dress, Megan removed the dress, changing back into her normal clothes, and putting the other dresses back on their hooks, before stepping out and saying, "Neither worked for me. I want something bright, pretty, and yet nice enough for a meeting." Zee corrected, "You mean date, right?" Megan shook her head, and replied, "Naw Zee. I mean meeting. This isn't a date. And I want something cute, pink, and nice enough for a meeting. Ooh, maybe like that!" She pointed to a rack, just off to the right, and on it, was a simple, triangle shaped, pink cotton dress with a chiffon collar and bottom hem. Grabbing it off the rack, she held it in front of herself, and looked in the mirror, admiring the flow and beauty of the simple clothing choice. After checking it in the dressing room, she came out wearing it, and asked Artemis and Zee, "Well, what do you think? Be honest." Zee gasped, "Oh my gosh, Megan! It's so you! and it's pink like you like too!" Artemis nodded, "Zee's right. That dress really shows off your eyes. I think we've found the right pick." Megan beamed, then went back into the dressing room, changed out of the dress, then put it back on the hanger, and stepped out. While Artemis went looking in the beauty section of the store, to look for Jade's make-up, Zee and Megan went up to the counter to pay. Paying the total amount, the girls stepped out of the store, to wait for Artemis. The blonde came out five minutes later, her hand clutching a bag with Jade's make-up inside. Looking at the time, the girls saw they only had time to get back to Artemis' house, and help Megan get ready, before having to go to the "Cave". Immediately heading back to Jade's car, Artemis resumed control over the driving, and went back to their house. Upon arriving, they rushed in, threw the keys to Jade, who was lounging on the couch in gym pants and a tank, then raced up to Artemis' room, to get ready.
