Chapter 2: Tear Stained Eyes and Science

(Here's Chapter 2, enjoy if you read!)

The class dragged on for what felt like forever. Although Megan liked Chemistry, it never compared to the freedom of being anywhere, but there. As the bell finally rang, Mr. Allen instructed the students, saying, "Homework for this weekend is to reread over Chapter 9, and do the study guide questions for the next upcoming test. The test will be next Friday, so prepare." Megan grabbed her bag, then stood, and went up to the teacher's desk. She said, "Mr. Allen, may I please talk with you? It's about a chemistry error in the book, that I found." The blonde teacher replied, "Sure Megan. You can always talk with me. I'm here to listen, as well as the rest of the teachers in this school. Now, you said there was an error in the Chemistry book?" Megan nodded, then said softly, "The atomic mass of Sodium in the book, says it's 29.99, when on the picture you have on the wall, it says it is actually 22.99." Mr. Allen grabbed his teacher's guide, and flipped to the Element Table in the back of the book, saying, "Huh, I guess you're right, Megan. The book is inaccurate. I'll send out an email later to you all, to make sure that error is corrected, and I'll send one to the publisher, to get that error fixed for the next issue. Thank you." The ginger replied, "No problem. I just thought I'd let it be known, so nobody gets confused." Mr. Allen smiled, then walked over to the door, and opened it for Megan, letting her out. The young ginger, as she left the class, kept her head down. She knew if she did so, then no one would bother her. To her, keeping her head down, was a way for her to think she was invisible, to the masses of students. Coming up to her next class, History, the young girl attempted to slip in unnoticed, but failed, when she saw Conner standing in the back of the room, his hand on her desk! Swallowing her fear, Megan walked up to her desk and her crush. She said, feeling her knees going weak, "My seat, uhmmm... C-can you...please?" Conner looked at her, then threw his hands up, saying, "Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to. I just thought..." Megan looked slightly up, and saw a bit of nervousness flitting in Conner's eyes. She replied shakily, "Yeah, uh..." Conner smiled, and walked away to his seat on the far left of the room, near the door. Watching him slump down in his seat, Megan mentally told herself, "Why is it every time I try to talk to Conner, my heart begins to race and my knees go weak? I'm so stupid! Hello Megan! He'd never want to be with a girl that just stutters when he asks a question!" "Hey Conner, I have something I want to ask you. Think you could help me?", said a female voice. Megan came back to reality, and looked over to where Conner was sitting, and beside him was Alexa Harper, the cheer squad leader. Conner replied, "Uh yeah, okay. What do you need to ask me?" Alexa replied, in a sweet tone, "I was just wondering if you wanted to go to the dance together this Sunday? You and I would be the perfect couple, and would definitely win King and Queen of the dance, considering we are both of the same crowd, and nobody else, is even close." When she finished saying it, Megan saw Alexa give a sneer at her, then turn back to Conner, her face cheery and lighthearted. Megan listened for Conner's response, hoping that he would say no. She heard him say, "Uh, I don't know, Alexa. You see, I'm not much of a dancer or a social person. I was even thinking of just staying home the night of the dance and binge watching a TV show or something like that." Alexa whined, "But Conner! You and I would look so cute together! Think about it: you and I, crowned the King and Queen of the dance, all eyes on us! People exclaiming that we are perfect for each other. You have to come! You just have too! Please tell me you will go with me?" Megan was surprised, when Conner replied hesitatively, "I guess it would be okay." Immediately, Alexa grabbed Conner into a hug, and exclaimed, "Yay!!!! Oh, it's going to be so much fun!" Megan heard Conner mutter, "Yeah...fun. Wooohoo..." As Alexa took the seat beside Conner, Megan frowned, and sat down, occasionally glancing over to her crush. He wasn't really that stupid to go after some dumb cheerleader, right? Seeing Megan looking at Conner, Alexa teased, "Oh look, Shy Mouth was hoping things would go in her favor! How sweet! You know, dearie, he already agreed to me, not you. Maybe you should go try to change like...oh, I don't know, everything about that ugly figure of yours!" The entire class, except Conner, laughed, but Megan didn't notice. She was too busy feeling tears on the brink of her eyes, due to the humiliation. Standing up and rushing out the door, Megan ran for the bathrooms, just barely missing her history teacher, Miss Prince. As she entered, she turned and looked at her red, blotchy face, in the mirror. Tear stains were quickly drying on her cheeks, and yet for some reason, she couldn't stop the emotions. Crumpling in a ball in one of the bathroom stalls, Megan kept on crying. She never wanted to come out. Now that Alexa had humiliated her, she knew she couldn't go anywhere without the whole class knowing. Even worse, she was scared what Conner would think. Would he laugh at her too and agree with the others that she was ugly? Maybe her hopes of somebody thinking she was beautiful, were just too huge. Maybe her hope of being with Conner was a hopeless, fake dream. Maybe she should give up that dream altogether. Megan stayed in the bathroom, scared, sad, and heartbroken. Near the end of the day, or so she thought, Megan heard the bathroom door open, and listened. She heard Artemis say softly, "Come on, Meg. You can't hide in the bathroom forever. You have to come out at some time." The girl sniffed, and replied, "I can't Artemis. I'm too humiliated. What will people think? What will he think? He probably thinks I'm just an idiot." Megan listened, and saw the familiar brown combat boots that Artemis wore, before the blonde threw the bathroom stall open. Grabbing Megan's arm, and lifting her to her feet, Artemis said, "People are stupid to think you're not worth anything. And if Conner can't see that you are a true gem, like Miss Princess can't, then you're too good for that stupid guy. Megan, you don't have to play or pretend to be someone you aren't. I've seen what a good hearted kind of person you are. You helped me meet Wally, and got us together, Now I think it's high time I pay you back. Tonight, you, me, and Zee, sleepover. My house. Four sharp. Don't be late." Artemis turned on her heel, and stalked out of the bathroom, leaving Megan standing alone. Gathering herself, the young ginger put on a brave face, and cautiously opened the door. She stepped out, and ran to the nearest exit, that just so happened to be by the pool. Not seeing beforehand, Megan nearly tripped, when she rammed into Kaldur.
