Stepping up to the stage, Megan could feel her legs turning to jelly. It almost seemed impossible to reach to the top. Once on the stage, mike in hand, she gulped, then looked over at Conner, who put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. Megan closed her eyes, and listened closely as the song beat started to play. Opening her mouth, she sang sweetly, and quietly,"I've always been the kind of girl that hid my face. So afraid to tell the world what I've got to say. But I have this dream right inside of me. I'm gonna let it show, it's time to let you know, to let you know! This is real, this is me! I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be now! Gonna let the light shine on me! Now I've found who I am, there's no way to hold it in! No more hidin' who I wanna be, this is me!" Opening her eyes, and looking out in the audience of teens with their lit phone screens waving, Megan smiled brighter, and felt herself becoming bolder, as she continued to sing louder, "Do you know what it's like to feel so in the dark? To dream about a life where you're the shining star? Even though it seems like it's too far away! I have to believe in myself, it's the only way!!! This is real, this is me! I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be now! Gonna let the light shine on me! Now I've found who I am, there's no way to hold it in. No more hidin' who I wanna be, this is me!" Turning to look at Conner, Megan saw the teen's mouth open, as he sang clearly and with passion,"You're the voice I hear inside my head, the reason that I'm singing! I need to find you, I gotta find you! You're the missing piece I need. The song inside of me, I need to find you, I gotta find you!" Coming back to herself, as soon as Conner finished the verse, Megan raised her right hand in a fist, still completely focused on the power and the emotion of the words as they played through her mind. Every fear she had ever felt in her whole life melted away, as if snow. Every worry about herself letting go of her past, was relinquished to the potency of the music. She sang the chorus again, her shoulders relaxing as she dove into herself,"This is real, this is me! I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be now! Gonna let the light shine on me! Now I've found who I am, there's no way to hold it in! No more hiding who I wanna be!" Her brown eyes wide open, Megan turned to stare once again at Conner, and felt a wave of love pass over them. She got up close to the teen, and together they sang, in perfect harmony, no fear in them,"This is me! You're the missing piece I need! The song inside of me! This is me, yeah! You're the voice I hear inside my head, the reason that I'm singing! Now I've found who I am, there's no way to hold it in! No more hidin' who I wanna be, this is me!!!!!" As the song ended, Megan passionately took her hands into Conner's, and gave him a kiss that lasted until the last note hung from the song! The crowd went wild as their performance ended, with clapping and celebration. Still up on the stage, her hands now free from his, Megan said quietly, "Conner, I...I love you." The stronger, more popular teen smiled, then took her hands back into his, and replied simply, "I love you too, Megan." Coming off the stage, holding hands, both Megan and Conner were greeted by their friends. Zee declared, "Meg! That was spectacular! You looked so comfortable up there, with not a care in the world!" Artemis put her hand on the ginger's shoulder, and said, "Well done, Megan. I knew you had it in you. All you needed was a little push." Kaldur agreed, using his clear voice, "I must agree with your friends, Megan. That was a very interesting and very good performance. I had no idea you could sing, neither did I know Conner could as well." The ginger blushed, and replied, "Thanks guys for having my back this whole time." Robin chimed in, and said, "That was asterous, no way on the 'dis'." "Thanks Robin.", Megan said, as she looked down at the raven haired, sunglasses wearing teen with a grin, her freckles dancing over her cheeks. With her true friends surrounding her and encouraging her, in that very moment, Megan realized she was one of the luckiest girls in the world. She had a guy that didn't care about her looks, but more about her heart and who she was on the inside. She had a group of friends that had drawn her to actually help her become who she truly was meant to be. Artemis, Zee, Robin, Kaldur, Wally, and now Conner, were more than just her real friends, she concluded. They were her family. Looking around the beautifully designed gym for the dance, the ginger smiled for real for the first time she had been at the school. She had taken down a bully, who hated her, using just her wits and her friends to be her support system. Although, Megan wished she could have made Alexa a friend as well, she knew well in her mind, that the brunette cheerleader captain would never accept her, and strangely, she was okay with that. She didn't need approval from the popular cheerleaders to know she was cherished. She didn't need to focus on what she wasn't, because she already had people that accepted her for her, despite her flaws and imperfections. Hearing the next song begin to play, Megan grabbed Conner's hands, and dragged him to the center of the room, then began to dance in her own unique way. Slowly, the rest of her friends joined in, smiling, cheery faces on each. The truth was so clear now to the ginger, in her mind. Megan may have moved to Happy Harbor a very shy girl with many fears inside her, but she became a girl with a happy, shiny personality that when anyone looked at her, they would see the sun and laugh alongside her. She had let go of her past, and revealed her true self. She had changed for the better, and hadn't let the hard things people called her, bug her. They had all underestimated her. Being surrounded by friends, Megan Morse declared, "I love my life!", then she proceeded to kiss Conner again, not minding that Alexa was still in the room, and was glaring at her from a distance, coming up with a plan to ruin her life.
