Chapter 15: The Truth Comes Out

Standing at the entrance to the gym at Justice High, about thirty minutes later with Artemis and Zee, Megan looked inward, her eyes lit with excitement and surprise! The entire, usually disgusting gym had been transformed into a romantic's paradise, complete with a sparkly disco ball hanging from the ceiling, tables draped in silver covers, and lights flashing throughout the room, landing in particular sections of the room. The stage for the Drama Club, was also transformed, along with the gym. Looking over, Zee pointed over to the punch table, and said, "Hey there's Robin! I'll see you guys in a bit. I'm gonna go say hi to him." Megan called, almost silently, "Good luck, Zee. We'll be here." The raven haired girl raced over to the table, and pretended to bump into the short boy dressed in blue and black. Artemis turned to Megan, and said, "We should find the guys. Wally told me he and Conner are hanging out over by the stage. Thankfully, Princess isn't here yet, thanks to Robin screwing with her car, so you should have some time to say at least hi to Conner." Megan gave a single nod, then followed Artemis, as she led her to the stage, where the boys were standing, with Wally wearing a red tie and Conner a normal black one. Walking up to Wally, Artemis said, pleased, "Hey Baywatch. You look nice..." Wally grinned, his emerald green eyes flashing brightly, and he replied, "You too, Artie. Oh, I almost forgot. Here, look at this." Both Megan and Artemis stared at the ginger, as he pulled a small, flat box out of his coat pocket, and handed it gingerly over to the blonde. Artemis opened the box, and gasped, as she pulled a small, silver chain bracelet with a single charm on it. The charm was a small, yellow lightning bolt that overlapped a green arrow, and on the arrow, it read, "Fly fast". Artemis put the bracelet on, and said, "It's so beautiful, Wally. Thank you." Megan watched as her best friend reached over, and gave her boyfriend a kiss on the cheek. With the two staying in the kiss, Megan gazed over at Conner, who was standing with his arms crossed. She could tell he was uncomfortable, just like she was. Deciding that it was up to her, she knew she had to say something. Calmly, the ginger went over to the tall football star, and asked nervously, "So, nice party, huh?" Conner gave a sigh, and replied somewhat coldly, "Yeah...nice for those who are forced to be somewhere they don't want to be." The two teens fell silent, until Megan tried again, and said shakily, taking a breath, "Alexa's not here yet. Do you want to do go get a drink together? Or alone... we could always go alone, that is, if you want to." Conner shrugged his shoulders, and stated, "We can get a drink." Megan smiled, and reached out to touch the tall teen's hand. He grabbed it almost hesitantly, but followed the ginger, until they came to the punch table. Once at the table, Megan grabbed a pre-filled cup of punch, then took a sip, and almost spat it out. Conner grabbed a cup as well, and took a drink, then gulped it down, and grinned, his eyebrows raised in surprise. Megan laughed, then asked, "How'd you do that?! The punch tastes like smelly, sweaty socks!" Conner replied, snickering to himself, "I guess I have an iron stomach." Suddenly, the music died down, and a deep male voice said, "Welcome Justice High students to the Girls Ask Guys dance. My name, known to all of you, is Principal Wayne. Tonight, is a very important night, where we celebrate a new year and growing relationships. It's a night meant to bring the students closer together. It is meant to do much more than a Spring Formal or a 'normal' school dance. So have some fun, drink some punch, and enjoy. Thank you." As the music came back on, Megan commented, "An iron stomach, huh? Well, then I guess you can take about anything." Conner replied, "I guess I probably could, but I've never tried anything for that." Megan smiled, and put her hands on Conner's wrists, saying, "You know I've been scared to tell you this for awhile, but you're cool." As soon as she said that, she turned and found herself eye to eye with Conner. The two teens stared at each other, completely transfixed with nothing else going on outside. Megan stuttered, "Conner, I... I lo-" "Get your ugly self away from him, Morse! NOW!!!" The ginger turned to the sound of the voice, and gulped, as she stared at the very angry face of Alexa Harper, and the faces of her little band of followers, who probably only liked her for the cash. Megan watched Alexa come up to them, and shove her out of the way, onto the ground, and come up to Conner. Once in front of him, she asked, absolutely sounding like a fool and talking like she would to a hurt child, "Are you alright, Con? Did that little pest try to kill you with her stupid ideas of romance and talking? Come on, let's go take some pictures..." "Alexa, I thought you had car trouble.", Conner stated. Alexa flipped her brunette hair, and said, "Asked Dad if I could borrow the limo, and he said sure. I can give you a ride in it, if you want. Though, from your father's place, I'm sure you have like three limos in your fancy garage. Just a part about being rich, right? Oh, the tragic things we have to endure." "Conner? What is she talking about?", Megan asked, looking up at the raven haired teen, her eyes filling with tears. Alexa smirked, and replied sassily, "Didn't he tell you, Morse? His father is the Clark Kent, the most famous and most popular news reporter in all of Happy Harbor. He's used to being rich and popular, and is perfectly trained like a puppy, to go after and with all of us rich people, which you are definitely not, so I am just surprised he treated you like he did." As she sat up on the ground, Megan watched sadly, as Alexa forced Conner to follow her, away from the scene. Artemis appeared above the ginger, and held out her hand, saying apologetically, "Don't worry, Meg. Remember Alexa is a stupid idiot, who only cares about herself. We've got a plan to get her away from Conner. Trust us." Megan took the blonde's hand, and stood up, declaring, "Artemis, why did you come up with a plan, when you know I hate being dragged into them? Plan making is not me. Did you know about who Conner's father is? Did you know he was rich?" Artemis said sadly, "Yeah, Meg... Zee and I knew about it all. His father came to the school a few times, and is really good friends with Principal Wayne and all the teachers. They apparently all used to go to school together." "Why didn't you tell me? Um, what is the plan exactly?", Megan asked, her faith quivered. Artemis smirked, and said, "You'll see, now follow me. Zee's already waiting in the girls' bathroom, ready to start the plan."
