Chapter 13: Breakfast Chats
The next morning came all too early for Megan, when she woke up to a call on her phone from Artemis. Yawning heavily, the ginger rubbed her eyes, and sat up slowly, then answered the call saying, "Artemis, it's like nine in the morning on a Sunday. What are you doing up? I thought you'd be with your family this morning." The blonde laughed, and said, "Yeah...about that. Dad, Mom, and Jade all left to go on a day trip today, to who knows where, and I couldn't sleep last night, because of tonight. I was told to stay home to watch Jade's car, so we can take that when we go tonight." Megan groaned, and plopped back onto her pillow, then replied, "Oh, so no one's home, huh... Not even the crabby kitty of your sister. That ought to be nice." Artemis chuckled, "Yeah, that should be a nice change. You know, you should ask your uncle if you could come over this morning for breakfast. I was gonna make just some toast, but that would be boring and dull. Besides, we need to talk about last night. I heard from Robin about who your guest was. Are you fine? I know you guys are enemies, but as your friend, I'm worried for you." Megan said, "Wait, how did Rob- dang it, that little sneak! Why didn't and how didn't I think to look in my room after dinner last night. I'm fine, Artemis. I just am a little shaken up, that's all. I spoke to my uncle before I called you last night, remember? I know that what Alexa says really doesn't matter. And sure, I'll ask my uncle about breakfast, but knowing him, I think it'll be fine." Artemis answered, "Great! See you in twenty?" Megan smiled, and said, "Sure thing. See you in twenty!" The line dropped, and Megan began to get dressed quickly. She knew she could take a shower later, before the dance, and she knew that Artemis didn't really mind that her hair was a disaster. She slipped on a Hello Megan t-shirt she had bought to promote her favorite TV show, a short, pink skirt, and a pair of light pink Converse high tops, then raced out the door, and came down the stairs to her uncle, asking excitedly, "Can I go over to Artemis' for breakfast, Uncle John? She's at home right now all by herself and wants to talk with me about last night and yesterday." The man replied, looking up from the morning paper with a grin, "Of course you may, Meg. You know I am fine with you doing anything, as long as it's legal and with your friends. I am just so happy that you made good friends this fast. They'll serve you well later. Go. Have fun. See you tonight after the dance, and don't stay too late." Megan called, as she darted out the door, "I will! Thanks!" Closing and locking the door behind her first, the ginger soon made her way down the street, and hopped onto a bus, to take her downtown, where Artemis lived. When the bus came to a grinding halt about five minutes later, Megan jumped off, and walked quickly down the street to Artemis' house. Arriving, she straightened herself and her skirt, then knocked on the door. As the door opened, Artemis said, "Good timing, Megan. I just have to finish some things in the kitchen, then we can sit, eat, and talk about last night. Come on in..." Megan calmly entered the dangerously quiet house, and set her bag on the couch, before retreating to the kitchen, and sitting at Jade's place. She waited until Artemis brought over two omelets, each made with bacon bits and cheese, and set them down on the table, before she said, "Artemis, so why did you call me this morning, really? I know you're worried, but you've always worried about me, since the day we met at school." The blonde took a seat, and replied, "Meg, listen. Zee and I were talking last night about how things went with you, Conner and Alexa. I think it would be very good for you, to kiss him suddenly tonight at the dance, during one of the songs. I know it's a risky move, but as we both told you, if he's too shy to say something, be the first to do something. It's the twenty first century, Meg. It's time for the girls to make a move on the guys, not the other way around. I will be close by to encourage you, but you need to do something, before Alexa does it first. You don't want her to sweep him off his feet, before you have a chance to show him what he means to you." Megan answered, "Artemis, please. I already told you I was going to go to the dance, but me kissing Conner is...well, I'm not sure I could do it. That's a completely random thing to do, and if Alexa saw me she'd-." "Alexa does not matter in this conversation, Megan Morse. Take the first chance you get and tell that boy how you feel, or I will be forced to do it for you, and you know how that will look to my boyfriend, right?" Megan simply nodded, and picked up her fork, and grabbed a bite of egg, putting it into her mouth, and chewed slowly. Artemis did the same, and for the next half hour, there was silence except for the sounds of chewing. When breakfast was done, Artemis put the dishes into the sink, and said, "Let's go Skype with Zee right now. She told me she needs help with something, which is yet another reason you are over here." Megan stated, "I wonder what she needs help with. Maybe something happened or maybe she asked Robin to be her date, finally." Artemis replied, "Well, we already know what Robin would say to her asking him to the dance on the actual day itself." "I don't think it took much for Zee to tell Robin how she felt, as she's been really eager to ask out Boy Wonder, son of the school principal, since they met. We all know that whenever Zee gets excited about a boy, there's no stopping her from making a good first impression.", Megan exclaimed, laughing and standing up to move closer to Artemis. The blonde replied, "Yeah, I guess you're probably right, Meg. I was talking with Wally, and he told me that as soon as a chance had opened up, he heard Zee talking to Robin about them going together, as 'friends'. I highly doubt, that 'friends' meant without a smooching fest. Let's just go upstairs now. Zee needs us." Nodding, Megan agreed, and began to head for the stairs. At the stairs, the two girls ascended, and entered Artemis' room, ready to talk to Zee, and find out the latest news about her date for the Girls ask Guys dance.
*So this chapter took much longer than expected to write, and it's a bit shorter than what I usually write, cause I've been busy with work and I wasn't sure what to write next. (Sorry, BTW) I think I started it two days ago, and have just now finished. Anyway, enjoy this little chapter. Thanks to everyone who has read this so far, and I hope you've loved it enough to stick with it. ~ The Writer
