Chapter 10: Blackmail Her?! Never!
When Megan arrived, she waited, and was soon rewarded by a bus stopping. Getting on, she paid the fare, and took a seat on the back of the bus, riding to a different bus stop, nearer to her uncle's house. Upon arriving about fifteen minutes later, she got up, and departed the bus, watching it leave. Walking down the street, Megan located her uncle's house, and went up the walk. Her uncle's house was a two storied, red bricked house with several windows in the front, and stairs leading up to the wooden front door. Getting to the door, Megan knocked, and the door was opened by her uncle, John. As she looked at him, she could almost sense he was looking her over, to make sure she was okay. She gave a small smile, and her uncle said, "Megan, what is wrong?" The ginger sniffed, and cried, "Oh Uncle John, why are teen boys so stupid?" John smiled, and gently ushered his niece in, and sat her on the couch. He took a seat next to her, and rubbed her shoulders, asking, "Now what do you mean, Meg? Did something happen, when you were with Artemis and Zatanna?" Megan whimpered, "Yeah, Uncle John. I thought a guy liked me, and he let me down, when the girl he's going to the dance with instead showed up, and got mad at me. The strange thing was, as I watched him go, he looked so sad, and seemed forced to heed what the girl said to do. It was almost like he knew he had to listen, or he'd be taken down. I talked to him a bit too, and he's like me. He knows what it feels like to be unwanted. I thought we'd connected, then next minute, he's up and leaving." John sighed, then calmly replied, "Megan, dear. If you truly like the person, whoever he is, you should just say it." "That's what Zee, Artemis, and Robin all say, but whenever I'm around him, I get too flustered, and mess everything up." John replied, "Then be yourself. Show him that you may get nervous, and that's your way of showing you like him. My recommendation is to be honest." "But how? Every time I see him, my knees get shaky, and I always get weird.", Megan commented. John patted the ginger on her shoulder, and answered, "Well, fear has two definitions that I know of. You can either forget everything and run, or face everything and rise. It's your choice, Megan, if you want to run or rise." Megan nodded, "Okay...thanks Uncle John." The older man smiled, "No problem. You know, when I met your aunt, and this was a long time ago, I was nervous to tell her how I felt. That's what she told me, when I revealed to her, that I was fearful of what her reaction would be." John stood up, and walked into the kitchen, saying, "Now Megan, I need to start on dinner. We're having an old friend of mine coming by for it, and it would be great, if you could be present." Megan replied, "Sure, Uncle John, but who is it, exactly? Is it anyone I know?" John gave a small chuckle, "You don't know him, but I think you'd really like him. He's got a good sense of humor and lightheartedness, that is about as big as the state of Texas, and he has a kid at the same school you attend." Megan left the couch, and ascended up the stairs into her pink colored room. Laying on her bed, she said aloud, "I wonder who the guest is that my uncle is referring to. Maybe it's Mr. Allen. I've always liked him, and Uncle John's description sounds like him, except for the fact I don't know this guy." After changing out of her dress, into a pair of jeans and a pink and white blouse, Megan stood in front of her mirror, slipping her hair out of its bun, and letting it fall past her shoulders. She stared at the image she saw, and wrapped her arms around her body, letting their warmth wrap her like a hug. She said, "If only I had a second chance. I blew it the first time. I can't believe I blew it." Hearing her phone ring, Megan rushed over to her bed, and saw the same number she had seen earlier that morning: Robin's number. How did he always seem to call at the most needed times? Picking up her phone, Megan said, "Robin?" The young teen replied, "Megan, I'm glad I caught you, before you sat down to dinner. Where did you go? Artemis told me you texted her, then vanished. She's been trying to reach you all late afternoon." Megan sighed, "Conner left with Princess again. She practically forced him to go with her. I'm at home now." Robin breathed a sigh of relief, "Whew, I thought maybe you may have gone extensive into the whole 'him leaving you' thing. And don't worry about Alexa. I've got some blackmail, that'll be sure to send her crying for her mommy and daddy. No one knows this, except now you and I, but I snuck into Alexa's room, and slipped a mini recorder in there. She doesn't know it's there, and I already know for a fact that its teeming with juicy blackmail, that I can use to our advantage." "Robin, what a pervert! You can't just do that. She has a right to privacy, just as much as the rest of us.", Megan gasped. Robin reasoned, "Yeah, but she uses her free speech and privacy, to talk gossip behind people's backs, including yours. You know what she calls you at school is incomparable to what she calls you on the phone to her gossiping pals." Megan commented, "Oh, well it's still not right. What would your dad say?" Robin replied cheekily, "He'd be fine with it. In fact, he's the one who taught me how to do it, and he encourages it." "Well, my uncle's making dinner, so I'm going to have to let you go. See you tomorrow night, alright?", Megan stated calmly. She didn't want Robin to know that she really wasn't feeling up to talking, especially about blackmailing Alexa. Robin replied, "Uh okay... I'll let Artemis know you're fine. See you tomorrow." The line dropped dead, and Megan stood, still holding her phone, and sighed deeply. Why couldn't she admit that it was Alexa, who ruined her chance to be on the cheerleading squad? Why couldn't she just stand up to Alexa, and prove her worth? And why did it seem whatever she tried never worked? Deciding to forget it all, Megan flipped on her computer, and began to check on the school's website, to try to relax. About thirty minutes later, she heard her uncle call her, saying, "Megan, can you get the front door, please? I've got a roast coming out of the oven, and I need to get it to the stovetop to cool a bit." Descending down the stairs, Megan replied, "Sure thing, Uncle John." When she got to the bottom, she went to the door, throwing it open, and stared very surprised at the figure that was before her. Her heart started to pound so fast, Megan feared that she was going to break.
