Ch.1: This was the day. The day that Megan Morse had been hoping for, since she had started attending Justice High, after having moved to Happy Harbor, Maine, a little over a year earlier. Her crush, Conner Kent, was standing peacefully in the hall, his muscular arm braced against the wall, while he was talking with the school's top jock, Wally West, and the school's most competitive swimmer, Kaldur Stokes, by the student lockers. The boys were laughing and joking about something, but for a brief moment, both Conner and Megan's eyes met. The room stopped spinning for the young ginger girl, and forgetting she was holding her school books, she let them fall to the ground, creating a cluttered mess. Conner saw Megan drop her books, and rushed over. Bending down, and letting his raven black hair flop over his piercing blue eyes, he helped her pick up her books. Conner smiled from where he had knelt, and carefully handed Megan her chemistry book, saying in a gruff tone, "You dropped this?" Coming up with nothing to say, Megan just nodded. Conner stood up, and continued, "Hey, you're that shy girl from my history class, right? Megan, is it?" Again, Megan just nodded. Conner replied, "I like that name. Megan. It's really cute." Hearing his friends calling him, Conner apologized for his quick departure, and left Megan standing in the hall, whispering, "He likes my name. He talked to me. The cutest, strongest boy in school talked to me." Hearing her best friend, Artemis, come up behind her, Megan turned, and looked at the blonde. Artemis smiled, and said, "Hey Megan." The young ginger blushed, and said softly, "Artemis, he talked to me." Artemis asked, "What? Who talked to you?" Megan replied, "Conner Kent said hi to me, and he picked up my books off the ground. He's so dreamy!" Artemis pinched Megan, and said, "Girl, you need to ask him out already! You guys are in the same classes and have so much in common! Why haven't you asked him out yet?" "I don't know, Artemis. I mean, I like him, but what if he doesn't like me back? What if I trip? What if I fall on my face, and end up in the school's doctor's office? I can't. I just can't ask Conner out. I'd be petrified.", Megan whispered. Artemis responded, "Just do it, Megan. Be the first to make the move. Ask him to the Girls Ask Guys dance! I already asked Wally to be my date. You need to build your confidence. I'm sure whatever happens, Conner won't be stupid, and hate you." Megan asked nervously, "You think so?" Artemis firmly replied, "I know so." Suddenly, the bell rang for second period. Megan stuffed her Chemistry, English Lit, and History books into her shoulder bag, and slammed her locker shut, allowing it to lock. She turned to Artemis, and said, "See you after school at 'The Cave'." To Megan and Artemis, as well as any student that attended Justice High, 'The Cave', was a small coffee shop, that had drawn customers from Gotham City to Central City, because of its beliefs to stay deeply rooted in tradition. Artemis winked, then dashed off with Wally, to their math class, which they shared. Megan watched her best friend leave with the boy she had been fond of since kindergarten. It had only been recent, that they'd actually become a couple, but already, Megan could almost sense a warmer happiness in Artemis. Hearing the second warning bell, she slung her bag over her shoulder, and broke out into a run, to get to class on time, but was relieved, when the Chemistry teacher, Mr. Barry Allen, was nowhere to be seen! Sliding into her seat in the back of the room, Megan drew out her lab notebook, and began to review the first thirty elements in the Periodic Table. Reciting to herself, she said, "Hydrogen, Helium, Lithium, Beryllium, Boron, Carbon, Nitrogen, Oxygen..." When she was in the final stretch, Megan heard the door open, and footsteps walking into the classroom. She looked up, and saw Mr. Allen placing his brown suitcase on the table, and opening it, to grab out papers. Taking out a folder, the teacher closed his suitcase and set it on the floor, saying to the class, "I've got your Chapter Eight tests to hand back to you all. Some of you passed with flying colors, but some of you, may need tutoring. If any of you want me to tutor you, let me know at the end of class, or before you go home. I am usually here at the school until five, grading papers." Grabbing the folder, Mr. Allen walked down each row of students, handing them the tests. When he got to Megan, he flashed her a smile, and said, "Well done." The ginger smiled back, and breathed a sigh of relief. As Mr. Allen passed out the rest of the tests, Megan began to think back to what Artemis had told her. Should she really ask Conner to the dance? He was super cute and really sweet, but what if some other random girl already asked him to be her date? Any girl that was in their grade, would do anything to have Conner as their date, and Megan didn't want to risk the chance, that she might be rejected. Deciding she had to do something, she told herself that as soon as class ended, she would ask out Conner. She had just as good a shot as any other girl in the school, to be the one to ask the strong, silent football player to the dance. Smiling, Megan was content.
