Part 2: Chapter 14
"Drop us from the program!" Sakura and Sasuke shouted in shock, their turmoil clear in their tone.
Naruto wasn't bothered one bit, but then again, it could be a act all on its own. Considering he acted throughout his academic life in the academy. On the other hand, Naruto knew something that they didn't and that was unsettling for Sasuke. Then the other thing is that Naruto already had a bell, he was in a safe zone, per say. He shook the thought off, sticking on the topic of dropping them from the ninja program. They couldn't be ninjas if that statement was true.
"Why would Sensei do that?" The pink haired girl spoke up in distress.
Kakashi looked at Naruto with his hands on his hips, "You don't think like ninja, you think like little kids. Naruto..." Kakashi called after the blonde haired boy who seemed quite bored at the moment.
Naruto pointed towards himself to confirm Kakashi had indeed called him since he was daydreaming again. Kakashi knew well that Naruto tends to do that, the blonde also does that to annoy him.
"Tell them... because I'm pretty sure you know the reason." The only adult present said as Naruto gave a look of irritation. Though it left as soon as it came.
"Okay then, but as I am being honest, do not blame me if it offends anybody. I will be brutally honest." he warned. "Sasuke despite your past you have quite strong mentality. You think everything is all about you, even with your past, you have no right to have this ego attitude of yours." Naruto grabbed Sasuke's wrist and yanked him towards Kakashi.
Kakashi then grabbed the dark eyed boy and pinned him on the floor. He made his next move by sitting on the poor boy.
"Hey, what do you think your doing?! You cant step on Sasuke like his some kind of bug!" Sakura screeched, slightly horrified.
Naruto gave her a cold look, being completely serious, knowing he has to do this to make them understand. "Yet your comparing him to a bug. Not my words, it's yours."
"You people don't know what it means to be a ninja. You think it's a game, huh?" Kakashi said in a serious tone, there was no trace of the stoic and lazy Sensei now.
Naruto continued with a serious yet effortless voice, his usual blank look in his face, "Do you know the reason they put graduates of the academy on squads? Have you ever thought of that, Miss. Haruno, Uchiha Sasuke?"
"What! What do you mean?" Sakura asked Naruto, clearly feeling comfortable shouting at Naruto instead of her Sensei. Naruto looked down, not wanting to explain anymore than he has. How can one be so dense, can't any of them catch on? I know they are smarter than that. Maybe she can't think properly since the Uchiha is here.
"What I meant by that? I mean that you two haven't realized the true meaning of this test. What is this test about? Why are we exactly teammates?"
"Naruto is absolutely right about this. Use your head, three people on a squad. Why is that?" Kakashi pushed, clearly a little frustrated with the two.
It was silent for a while and Naruto sighed, "This is basic, you know. Teamwork. That's the answer. As simple as that."
Sasuke And Sakura's eyes widened. "It is too late now and since you know the answer it is quite useless to do the test again at this point." Naruto closed his eyes and looked down. He was so done with this lecture and what's worse is that he lost the bet, but he knew that this wasn't the last part of the test. That's why he was so calm.
Kakashi kept on speaking to the two, while Naruto day dreamed once more. He kept doing this and he didn't exactly know why. It was refreshing to do so, I guess. He could think of everything he wanted to and wonder about anything he wished. Stuck in his own world, that would be so peaceful.
Though, their was also those disadvantages. One of which was the negative thoughts and stress of reality entering his train of thoughts. That was a bothersome thing, reality... He learned to live through it, so it wasn't as bothersome as it used to be. He was quite fond of the world he was in, reality.
"Now I'll be back and you can do the test once more." with that being said Naruto snapped back to his reality and saw that Kakashi had left him with the two teammates.
He shook his head. "I'm so done with this." he mumbled and started walking away from the Uchiha and Haruno.
"Hey where are you going?" Sakura asked full of confusion. Almost immediately the Uzumaki stopped in his tracks. He looked over his shoulder to see the girl had gotten up from her seat. "This test is meant for you. I have no business here, but I definitely have business elsewhere." Naruto said.
"I think it would be best if you stayed. If you leave you're literally going back on your words." He heard Sasuke pointed out and that was exactly what he was hoping for. He wouldn't just leave just like that.
He had his plans for the team he will work with. "What do you mean by that?" He turned to face Sasuke and Sakura.
Sakura flinched realizing what the Uchiha meant, "Well, you said that we're going to be a team and we're going to be working together. If you leave right now then you're actually doing the same mistake we did. Now, while we have the chance to do the test again, what better chance to show teamwork then now?" Sakura explained with her eyebrows furrowed and a determined gaze in her eyes.
Naruto was silent and by then turned around once more as if he was leaving. "Are you done?" He asked in a cold manner.
Sakura blinked, her fist that she had made when she was talking loosened. "Well..." She stayed quiet. She didn't really expect him to be like that and she almost regretted her words if they weren't true that is.
"Yes, she's done and..." He heard the other male speak with confidence and a tint of anger. It only could be heard if someone were to listen intently and carefully. "...she's right. You're one not to go back on your own words, if you leave your doing just that. Not only that but it's also the same situation as abandoning your teammates and that makes you a scum. Thats what our Sensei said, right?" Sasuke said and anyone could hear that he was serious.
"Since you're finished..." Naruto paused and took a step forward. Sakura gave a fake smile.
"Your not going are you?" Sakura said with a sweet smile, but her inner voice said different. The nerve. His going to leave after all we said! Who is the one acting like a kid now!?
Naruto ignored her question and continued,"...then you pass."
Sakura blinked. "What?"
She tried processing what he said, but it didn't seem to sink in. Sasuke couldn't blame her, he was shocked as well. Of course it didn't show on his face, he wasn't the type to show what he actually felt. If he had done that then people would see weakness and vulnerability. According to him anyway and that's what made Naruto and Sasuke so similar. They both thought there was no need for emotions to leak out.
Naruto wasn't very arrogant, though. He had different reasons for not showing his emotions openly. Nobody knew those reasons, not even the Hokage.
"Can you repeat what you said, just now?" asked Sakura, finally regaining her composure. She finally processed the words that Naruto had spoken.
"You. Pass." Naruto said with a monotone voice. He raised his voice only slightly as he asked, "Isn't that right, Kakashi Sensei?"
"Huh?" the both exclaimed.
As expected the said man appeared out of nowhere, with what seemed like a smile under that mask of his. "That is correct."
"Huh?!"
Apparently Sakura is too confused and overwhelmed that she couldn't even bring a sentence out. Naruto stared at both of them blankly, simply waiting for them to speak.
Sakura didn't expect to be in the same team as Naruto, let alone her crush, Sasuke. She felt truly blessed that she got to be in Sasuke's team and even more grateful that Yamanaka Ino didn't. She would've literally been grateful even if he gone in another team that didn't have Ino or any girl in that matter. When she processed the fact that she was on his team she was blissful, to say the least.
Though, she didn't know about her feelings of the matter when it came to Uzumaki Naruto being on her team. She didn't even process or believe that she was on Sasuke's team, and to make it even more of a mind blower, Naruto's.
His personality completely changed, and it's not really like someone can do that in a night. It's completely ridiculous and impossible. She never really liked him that much before, but now she wasn't sure anymore. She was sure Sasuke had his mixed feelings as well.
As Sakura predicted, the eldest boy had mixed feelings as well, one of the ones he could identify was envy, or something close to it. But most of all he was confused, and slightly agitated at the mystery that is called Naruto.
Why? How? When? Why is Naruto like this all of a sudden? How is he as smart as he is now, why not when he was in the academy? Was it a act? When had he become so cool and collected, not to mention strong? Well, according to the strength he used before when he threw me to Kakashi Sensei. Many more questions swarmed and swirled in both their heads. They didn't want to ask anything, though.
"May I ask why you are staring towards me in such a way?" Naruto said, which made them realize they were indeed staring at him.
Sasuke quickly looked away and Sakura laughed sheepishly and a tint of awkwardness. "Sorry. I guess your words got to us that's all." she said and looked away. Your attitude is freaking me out a bit that's all! It was silent before she spoke up again. "So we're having our first mission tomorrow." she smiled.
"Correct. I do not think it would be as pleasant as you may think it is." Naruto mumbled the rest of his thoughts on the matter. Sakura heard every word, nonetheless.
"What do you mean?" she whipped her head to the side where she could face him. Naruto shook his head, signalling to leave the topic.
If that were the normal Naruto would've just forced it out of him, but sadly it wasn't. Normal Naruto, does that Naruto even exist?
She looked around looking for an excuse to break the awkward silence. She was looking around frantically, while the blonde looked around slowly with a bored expression on his face. His eyes drifted to an alleyway, but who he saw there was the shocker. His right hand shook uncontrollably.
"How about we go get some dumplings?" Sakura asked them with a sweet smile. She turned to see a tensed Naruto and a silent Sasuke giving a glance to the boy.
"Um... I am terribly sorry, Miss Haruno. I need to run an errand right now. Maybe another time." he said, calming himself down as he left.
"What was all that about?" she asked, raising a eyebrow. Sasuke shrugged, walking away moments later and glancing at the retreating form of their blonde teammate.
"Wait, you're going too?" the young pink haired girl asked with a disappointed yet sad tone.
"I don't have much of a sweet tooth." Sasuke simply said.
"Oh." Sakura said and followed behind him. Why did Naruto look so... scared? No, scared isn't the right word, he looked down right terrified.
