Realization
-Axel's POV-
Slash, dodge, stab, repeat. Slash, dodge, stab, repeat. I had been doing this for an hour now, thinking about... things. First of all, Lacey was on my mind. She plagued my brain like bugs would feast on the wheat. She was a mystery to me, but I had to know what was stirring in her mind. Second, I was thinking about my mother. Secretly, I wanted to see her again. She had gone to the Overworld when I was 11 and I hadn't seen her since. I was 19 now, it's been 8 years. 8 years! I wanted to go up to the Overworld very badly and find her, but my father told me that he needed me here. I obeyed, only because I had common sense. You did not want to mess with my father. Slash, dodge, stab, repeat. Slash, dodge, stab- This dummy was getting worn, as I knew it would. I had no more dummies in the room, so my second option came to be... I wanted to talk to Lacey. Gathering as much courage as I could muster, I opened the iron door that lead to the cells. I walked towards where Lacey was sleeping, she looked as if she was dreaming. I wasn't going to be rude and wake her, so I took my leave and went my room. I sat on my bed and took out a small box and put it on the bed in front of me. I took the key that was on a chain around my neck and unlocked the box, opening it and seeing my prized possession. As I took the small emerald in my hand and remembered what my mom always use to say. 'Follow your heart, it can lead you to an amazing place of love and hope.' I clutched the gem and put it to my heart, letting a small, glowing tear down my face. I wiped the tear away putting everything away where it was before and went to Lacey's cell. She must have woken up to my footsteps because I looked in her cell and she was sitting up. "Hi again." I said with a small smile. She smiled too, and it me smile even more. We sat on each side of the bars and proceeded to talk. She talked about her family, and how her father was the leader of her village and her mother was a huge green thumb. I smiled at her nice life before she got thrown in here, and then she asked about me. I drew a blank, because all my life I was down in the nether, not really seeing the Overworld. I told her this and her smile disappeared. "Oh, I'm sorry... But I have to ask... Why?" She said furrowing her brow. I looked down almost ashamed. "My father... never let me leave. He's been training me all my life to be right by his side. He's not immortal like everyone thinks he is, so he wants me to take his place when he finally hits the dirt." I chuckle. "Do you want to?" I look up, stunned. Not at her question, but that she actually asked it. I blinked, thinking about that. "Uh... To be honest... No, I don't. I don't believe that what he's doing is right. But how in the wide world of Minecraftia do I tell him that?!" I bury my face in my hands. A second later I feel something touch my knee. I take my hands away from my face and see Lacey's hand on my knee. I look up into her sympathetic eyes and instantly relax. We both smile and I take her hand in mine. She squeezes my hand and I squeeze back and we both laugh. "You know, that's the first time I've laughed in a while." I say. "Thank you..." I continue. She smiles more and even blushes a little. I let go of her hand and stand up. "I need to go. My father will be waking up soon. I'll see you soon." She stands up too. "I'm looking forward to it." We both smile and I go back to my room. I lay on my bed for a second before I realize something. I like her.
