Nightmare or Natemare??

((Nathan's nightmare))

Nathan could feel the air around him - thick, damp, cold. His eyes couldn't see two feet in front of them, and a sense of fear lurked in the darkness. With each step, an echo like no other.

The stone floor beneath Nathan was wet, like a thin layer of ice melted on the ground. His breathing was shallow and heavy, each step he took felt unnaturally heavy.

For what seemed like hours, Nathan just wandered through the darkness in hope that light would free him. But it seemed impossible - his walk seemed to go on forever, with no ending. Nathan's heart beat heavily and slowly out of his chest as he continued his pointless travel through what he feared as his last moments.

He believed that there was no hope left, until a light flickered in the distance. A single lightbulb hanging down from what must have been a ceiling. It seemed to be swinging slightly, subtly. For a split second, Nathan swore that he saw someone just within the light bulbs shine - shadowy and dim.

Was his eyes deceiving him?? Nathan didn't know. But for sure, seeing that split second of another person with him in this darkened void made him feel nauseous. Looking around him, Nathan walked cautiously towards the light source.

Each step seemed to wipe Nathan of his energy, him fearing that he wasn't alone. The light felt so far yet it was only a few feet away. Nathan sucked in a deep breath as he took the last few steps towards the light, feeling it's warmth as he approaches. It swung slightly, a bit more than before. Until the person he saw before appeared before him again.

Nathan was taken back so suddenly that he fell to the floor, feeling the wet concrete beneath his fingers. The figure standing tall above him looked identical to himself - but darker. His hair was casually messy, his clothes were slightly worn. The figure's eyes shimmered with insanity, like they could pierce through Nathan's soul. And running down the sides of his face, purple streaks like tears - adding fear to Nathan's aching body.

"Hello...Nathan."

Nathan froze to the spot, fear paralyzing every part of his body. The figure above just laughed, a laugh so psychotically deranged that it bounced around them. His smile widened before he continued.

"I'm Natemare, Nathan. A mixture of your fears, your burdens, your hate. I've been watching you from inside this void for too long - and now...it's my turn."

Nathan's mind went blank. Natemare?? His turn??

"W-what do you mean??" Nathan tried to sound calm, but the fear laced his voice. Natemare laughed again, cocking his head back slightly.

"Only one of us can control your body at any one time Nathan. Right now, you're in control. But it's my turn - it's been my turn for too long. You see, your not...normal. You have me, a darker version of yourself, living within you. Only people with blood of a demon can possess such a trait."

All this information left Nathan speechless. Was he really part demon?? Or could this just be a figment of his imagination?? He stood shakily to his feet and stared Natemare straight in the eye. The eyes that flickered maniacally in the dim light. Natemare just smiled, not caring about any movement Nathan made.

"Y-your telling me, that I have the blood of a    d-demon??" Nathan couldn't hold back his stutter, too much fear coursed through him. Natemare just nodded his head slowly, not bothering to reply.

No. This was too much. There's no possibility of an ounce of demon blood in Nathan's body - right?? Nathan decided not to believe it, he decided that it was just his mind playing on him.

"No way - no fucking way that I'm part demon because of you. You're just part of my imagination!! I'll wake up and none of this would have happened."

Natemare just took a step forward and smirked. His eyes and smile flickering with seriousness and hell.

"If that's what you want to believe."

((End of Nathan's nightmare))

"Nathan!! Nathan, wake up man!!" MatPat shook Nathan out of his nightmare. Sweat trickled down Nathan's forehead as he breathed heavily.

Once his breathing calmed, Nathan leant back against the bed post. Don't worry - it was just a dream...
