BRIEF BACKGROUND ⎯ ( im so low on creative juices for backstories rn ) he lost his own child and kinda lost it, and somehow his brain logic-ed to kidnap the prince ( who was actually about the same age as his biological kid ). after he did it he had some clarity but was just like 'i guess i have to go through with this now' bc otherwise, obviously, he'd be arrested at best if he was just like 'hey so i took your kid because i was spiraling you can have him back'. over time it did grow to less of an obligation and more of a genuine fear and worry for him.
