Vingt-Quatre
It was odd how the weather often reflected the way she felt, or perhaps the sky that looms over the dreary town of Forks, Washington was simply always prepared for the sadness that hid in her soul.
With death lingering in the air and pain clawing at the hearts of the people on the reservation, Andy oddly felt like this was where she belonged. Her heart had been fortified in the little years that she has experienced. Pain was something that she took in stride, death was an old friend that teased with gentle caresses and welcoming hands.
It was a familiar that should never have been familiar.
Andy sat alone in the corner, shaking under the weight that scorched her skin. Emotions were never gentle, the were harsh tendrils that whipped at her skin with little remorse to the amount that she could bare.
It was entirely fitting that the sky cried with them, sharing in Andy's burden because had she been given the choice, she would not have picked this lifestyle. She was weak, lost at sea with no anchor; a deadly combination that she couldn't right.
People glanced her way, few attempted to approach her but all were deterred by her empty eyes. Her father was even hesitant to near her.
It made her feel like a wild animal that was backed in the corner. She grew an unnatural fear towards these people, or perhaps it was their fear that she felt? In her current state of mind, she was uncertain. It was a troubling mess that resembled an endless rabbit hole of nonsense.
"Andy," Charlie called to her gently. The young Swan tensed slightly as his grief knocked into her with renewed force. She looked at him slowly, meeting his eyes.
"When did this all happen?" He questioned her quietly, gesturing to the ugly abuse to her skin. "Where's Bella?"
"I got lost in the woods trying to reach the cliffs," she laughed shakily. She had little trouble lying to her father, it was the influence of Sam, Jacob and the other boys that made her uneasy. "I guess I got little beat up."
She shrunk a little under his scrutinizing stare, only relaxing when he shook his head. "God, Andy, you need to be more careful. I don't know what I would do without you."
Her body relaxed completely and her empty eyes lightened ever so slightly. She softened for her father, moving towards him and pulling him in for a comforting hug. It was common knowledge for the people of Forks and the surrounding area to know that Charlie Swan was not a man of affection, but when it came to his little girl he could melt in a heartbeat.
"It's okay daddy. I'm always going to be here, even when I'm not," Andy mumbled into his shoulder. "That's how love works. It is limitless, without distance and boundaries. You are my dad, no matter where I am or who I am."
Charlie pulled his girl tighter, not minding the few glances that he was receiving from the mourners around him.
"When did you get so smart?" He teased his daughter.
"When did it take you so long to notice the obvious?"
He let out a gruff chuckle before pushing her in the direction of the door. "That boy of yours, Quil. He's outside and could probably use some words of comfort from the little genius."
She hadn't moved so fast before. She felt like she was flying past people until she was reaching the boy in question. Standing to the side of the house, staring at the truck that she had driven to get here. A rusty red Chevy that belonged to her sister that was currently somewhere on her way to Italy.
He was perfect, no matter the circumstances; he always would be, without a doubt the most perfect person she would ever meet. It was so hard for her to put him into words because she had never loved anyone the way she loved him.
"Quil," She called to him gently to try not to startle him.
He faced her immediately ad her heart broke even further. Tear tracks stained his cheeks as fresh tears threatened to spill. He was too perfect, too pure for this kind of sadness.
She walked to him quickly and held him to her. He hugged her silently, clinging to her in a desperate attempt to free himself from the negative emotions that plagued his head.
"Walk with me?" she asked when his crying subsided. Andy felt the pain lessen, felt it flutter away for a single second.
He took her hand thankfully, letting her lead him away. A walk with no direction were for the heaviest of hearts, for those that had plenty to say and so little time to say it.
"What happened?" He broke the silence. "Why are you always hurt?"
Andy shook her head sadly. They had entered the tree line not too far from the road and the Clearwater home. It was close enough to others that she didn't feel afraid.
"It doesn't matter," she told him sadly.
"What?" He jerked them to a stop. "Of course it matters! Did someone do this to you?"
Eyes widened at the sight of his shaking, his anger pooled uncomfortably in her belly. His hand tightened on her own and she yelped in pain.
"Calm down, Quil. It's okay," she soothed him with a shaky voce. Her hand flared with pain.
His eyes hardened. "Calm down?" he seethed. "You look like you were hit by a car and you want me to calm down?"
"Calm down, baby. Please," she spoke desperately. Andy tugged on her hand, trying to pull it away from him. "Please, Quil. You're hurting me."
She was stupidly crying. She didn't like this, he wasn't acting right, acting normal.
Her hand hurt and she gasp in pain when he applied even more strength.
"Jesus, Andy. Why won't you just tell me? I love you, why can't you just trust me?!"
She flinched as his voice raised. Her mind recoiling from his words. He couldn't mean them. It wasn't suppose to happen like this, not when he was angry and hurting her.
"Let me go!" Her stung, the skin that she had used to slap him turning a light pink. All at once she was rushing backwards, cradling her hand to her chest as he finally let her go.
Her eyes were blown wide in disbelief, his expression mirrored hers. They stared at one another, chest heaving with the amount of emotions that they felt.
"You don't mean that, you can't mean that," she whispered in to the space between them.
"Yes I do. I love you so fucking much that it hurts for me to be away from you. Every decision I make leads back to you, every thought is of you." He took a step forward; she took one back. "I belong to you, only you."
Andy shook her head, backing away some more. He couldn't, he didn't understand. It was too dangerous, all of it was too dangerous. Everything fell into perspective this afternoon as she watched her sister run off to save her vampire boyfriend. She couldn't risk his life.
"I love you too. No amount of words in any language could describe the way I feel for you because it is so raw, so real. You are perfect for me in every way, and that's why I can't do this to you."
"No," Quil shook his head frantically, his hands shook as he reached out to her. "If this is about the Cullen's, then I promise I would never leave you li-"
"I'm leaving you," the words tumbled out of her mouth before she could stop them. "I'm leaving after graduation to live with Alice and Jasper."
Quil was frozen and Andy was unsure of what to do. She knew that this was something that the boy was scared of, he had formed some sort of separation anxiety. She didn't want to tell him like this, to see the hurt in his eyes like she did now.
"Quil, let me-"
The snarled that interrupted her was not normal, it wasn't human. The trembling of his body grew worse and she knew that this wasn't normal either.
His left forearm broke with a sickening crack, his bones trembled and shattered beneath his skin. She could see it, see them breaking on their own before her and she could d nothing but watch.
White hot fire burned through her body as the boy she loved yelled and cried out in pain. The breaking of bones was painful enough, that much she knew, but to have them all break at once was excruciating.
The actions were quick and rushed, as if the boy before her was in some kind of hurry. Andy dropped to her knees, her actions were a shadow of his. Her back arched, mirroring he pain he was feeling. Black dots danced in her vision, her head felt like it was splitting open.
Her throat was raw, her ears rang and she only just realized that she had been screaming out the pain that possessed her, him, them.
Panting, her hands touched the ground and she looked towards Quil. He was knelt on his knees, clawing at his chest, drawing blood. Bile rose in her throat but she was paralyzed in both pain and fear.
Bristle like hair pushed through his skin, blood dripped from the breaks in his skin. Sweat glistened in his skin and his eyes met hers, pain and fear dancing around them tauntingly. Then he was gone. Skin tearing away and body shifting all at once.
She screamed. She screamed and crawled away from him desperately because that wasn't him. He whined, eyes meeting hers and he stilled.
Andy was thrown onto her back by the things that he was feeling. Confusion, fear, joy and love, an overwhelming amount of love.
He took a step toward her and she screamed. Scrambling to her feet shakily. Her body was exhausted, each movement made her want to cry but adrenaline pushed her on.
"What the fuck. What the actual flying fuck," she mumbled.
He took a step forward and she ran. She ran hard and fast for the road that was not all that far away.
Because that wasn't Quil. Quil was gone, replaced by a chocolate coloured wolf.
