Dix-Neuf

Wondering along the beach, Andy searched for her sister. Spring break had just started and Lynn had somehow convinced the girl to talk to her, to sit down and work things out.

It wasn't the worst thing that could happen, Andy cold admit to that. She missed her older sister, missed the sense of security she felt when she was with her. These past few months he had felt as if she was in some kind of limbo, being pulled in so many different directions that she felt sick.

Feelings, little sensations of tugging and twisting was something new. She had spoken about it with Alice extensively, the pair coming to the conclusion that it was some kind of new gift that came with being a Valerian. Alice had wared her, to never ignore the feeling because it could mean something.

The Cullen's believed it to be some kind of foreboding, a little warning to herself that something bad was coming. Andy believed them whole-heartedly.

It was one thing to blindly follow someone, but it was something else entirely to trust in their guidance and knowledge. Carlisle was old and experienced, she trusted in him.

She rusted in the knowledge that she received about Valerian's, but she also learned to follow her instincts a little more. She knew to differentiate between false truth and reality.

Andy now knew that what was believed about a Valerian taking away your negative emotions was absolutely true. However, when it came to healing, that was something that people had gotten painfully wrong. She couldn't out right heal someone, the best she could do was take the injuries away from them and transfer them to herself; she figured that if she ever got to the point where she was some kind of healer, then it would require a lot of time and energy that she just didn't have.

She had also learned, that her blood ran slightly colder than others, her skin nearly always cold to the touch. It had taken many phone calls and emails to figure out that she shared her body heat with others naturally as a way to ensure that others were comfortable. That she was deadly pale because she always had a constant silver touch to her skin, a sign that she was healing other mentally. According to Jasper, if she was trying to do it purposely, she would gain a silver glow to her hands.

The same could be said about healing people physically, something she had accidently done the other day when Bella had cut her hand cooking. Andy had witness her hands glow a soft gold, followed by a relatively deep cut appearing on her palm.

She remembered fainting, feeling a drain of energy. She woke up in the hospital with stitches and a new scar. The bright side was, she had her cast removed.

The most important thing she earned though was that being a valerian sucked.

She absolutely hated it, and resorted to hiding away in isolated places with as few people as possible. Lynn or Quil always tried to accompany her but they seemed to be busy with last minute things before they had the chance to enjoy their break.

The feeling in her stomach grew to the point that she could no longer ignore it. It was a tug, drawing her towards the trees that led to the denser part of the forest and the trail that led to the cliffs.

Not wanting to get lost in the woods, she hoped that she was being led to the cliffs.

Her mind wandered over random things as she walked, her fingers fiddled with her sleeves as she grew anxious. The tug pulled her further, towards sections that she had never seen. She let her eyes scan everything, staring in awe at how tall and full the trees looked.

There were torn up roots and broken branches. Everything looked a mess, like there was some large animal that had crashed through. It made her uneasy; something wasn't right here.

Her heart clenched, her stomached fluttered with nerves. She felt shivers rack through her body, her eyes widened with fear. She wanted to turn back, fear coursed through her but she couldn't. She felt pulled forward, drawn towards the danger that Andy knew waited ahead of her.

Her hands shook as she continued forward. Andy wasn't sure of what she was doing. She wanted to o home. She wanted to be with Quil, or Alice and Jasper, or even Bella.

Her feet moved on their own accord, pulling her forward.

The trees cast shadows around her, barely visible light from the sky pushed through the clouds and trickled in. It was strange to see how the sunlight that would normally brighten the world was enhancing the darkness. Never had she feared the woods, not when it was normally so calm and welcoming.

Andy had stopped fearing most things after the incident with James. It was like a shock to her senses, being so close to death stopped her from jumping at the littlest things. It never stopped her from being scared for no reason though; it was a common occurrence for her to suck in other peoples fears.

But never did she fear the woods.

She could pick up on the heavy footfalls from here. It was like a loud bang it the eerie silence of the forest. Hard pounding mixed with the snapping of branches getting closer, louder had her backing away in fear.

A strangled cry left her lips when she saw a flash of red. It was moving to fast for anything human, Andy knew that. She had seen people move that quickly before, it was something that was all too familiar to her.

A rush of air was sent her way; she could smell iron thick around her. Blood. A chill went down her spine, dread filled her.

Spinning, she searched for anything. She looked around her, looking for some kind of sign or way out.

"Little Andrea Swan," a voice purred.

Andy felt a sob climb out of her throat. She recognized the voice perfectly. Tears built in her eyes as she met red eyes.

Why did they have to share the same eyes, she thought bitterly.

"Do you remember me?" the girl taunted. Her words were whispered out, flowing out from between the trees.

Andy tried to follow her but all she could see was flashed of red.

"How could I ever forget you, Victoria?"

"What a sweet sentiment," Victoria teased. "Such a sweet little girl."

Andy stumbled back as the vampire drew closer to her. Hands pulled at her hair, nails cut her skin. She heard herself hiss as she felt blood drip down her arm. Her cheek stung and her head whipped to the side. She ached. She knew that Victoria was hitting her, hurting and cutting her, but nothing was making sense.

"Such a gentle little girl, I'm sure that you will have many people mourn you."

She jumped as Victoria spat the words at her. Panic seized her as she searched around her for Victoria. The vampire moved fast, far too quickly for any human to see.

"What do you want from me?" Andy whispered, knowing very well that the vampire could hear her.

Victoria stepped from the trees directly in front of her. The redhead stalked forward, eyes filled with fury.

"What do I want with you? I want you to die, just like your pathetic sister," the vampire snarled. "It's your fault that my James is dead!"

"No, no it wasn't me," Andy stammered. "It wasn't Bella. It wasn't us! It was him! He was crazy!"

The vampire growled, a low snarl that reverberated from deep in her throat. Andy quivered as she felt rage grow in the pit of her stomach. It was nauseating, consuming and it scared her to think if how completely angry Victoria must be.

Andy's eyes slipped shut and just for a moment she felt at peace.

Growls sounded around her. Snarls and heavy feet were heard and Andy's eyes snapped open as she cowered in fear. She couldn't see anything, but she knew Victoria could by the way the girl was reacting.

The redhead snarled in her direction, a promise shone in her eyes as she disappeared.

Andy was stuck frozen. She felt normal, no longer did she feel obligated to stay here.

It didn't take long for her to run back the way she came.
