CHAPTER THIRTY ONE

"Tell me something that I'll forget
And you might have to tell me again
It's crazy what you'll do for fame"

Athena walked through her house as she ate an apple passing the living room and freezing when she saw her mother sitting with a man she had never met. If Athena knew anything about her mother, it was that whenever she had papers in front of her, something bad was bound to come of it. "Cheryl!" Athena whisper yelled as she saw her sister, wanting backup if it was indeed bad news. She could always count on Cheryl to have to tongue of a snake.

Cheryl strolled past her, smiling at her mother and the man, Athena joining her side as she tried to get a look at the papers. "Mother. Strange man, I've never met." Cheryl spoke, her mother giving the girls a strained smile as she held a paper in hand. "Cheryl, this is Mr. Lazenby, our estate attorney. Your father, as it turns out, left a secret will." Athena choked slightly on her apple as Cheryl scoffed. Athena did not believe that this was the strangest thing her father ever did, finding the move a little bit predictable.

"Leave it to our father to have a secret will." Athena responded as Cheryl nodded, turning back to her mother with a raised eyebrow. "But Daddy died months ago." Cheryl turned her steel gaze to the attorney, Athena, following suit although her glare wasn't nearly as intimidating. "And Mr. Blossom's instructions were to reveal the existence of his will only after the authorities had concluded their investigation into his side business." This caused Athena to let out a laugh to hear her fathers drug dealing ways be described as a business.

"You mean drug dealing? Does this mean we're gonna be rich again?" Cheryl grinned, ignoring Athena's elbow that nudged her because of her words. But she still was curious to know. "What did he leave in his will?" Penelope rolled her eyes and looked at her daughters with a similar cold look to the one they were giving her. "Oh, girls, don't be so gauche."

"Per Clifford's instructions, he requested I withhold all information, including the names of his numerous beneficiaries, until a public will-reading. That's tomorrow afternoon." The three women let in a sharp intake of breath, Athena getting out of the room quickly, Cheryl on her tail. "Do you think that Daddy left us anything?" Athena shrugged as she threw her apple core in the bin, grabbing a glass from the cupboard.

"Well even if we got something from the old house, we would not be able to claim it since it all went up in flames." Cheryl nodded, walking out of the room and leaving Athena to her thoughts, her curiosity going haywire as she thought about her father's will. Tomorrow was going to be a long fucking day. And it was. Athena was dressed in red pants with a black blouse after her mother told her to wear the colors in honor of the family, saying they had to be a united front.

Cheryl had told Athena that she had invited Toni as emotional support, indicating that maybe she should invite Reggie but Athena didn't want the poor boy mixed in with her crazy family that would descend on the house. She watched as her extended family members greeted her mother with a snide smile whilst she stood next to her. "Athena, wow, look at you!" Athena turned as she heard her voice, seeing a redhead that she was unfamiliar with come up with a wide smile.

He wrapped his arms around her as she turned her head, looking at her mother who shook her head at her daughters confused face. "I'm sorry. Looks like you don't remember me. I'm your cousin, Marcus." Marcus was a tall pale man with red hair as all of the Blossoms were and he wore a friendly smile on his face as he looked at her. "Oh yeah, sorry. How have you been? I haven't seen you in almost a decade." Athena recognized the cousin as the one that would always play with her with Cheryl and Jason used to ignore her at all the family functions.

"Yeah, great! I haven't been back here in a while, been too busy. I'm a chef in New York." Athena smiled and nodded as they began to walk to their living room for the will reading. "Wow, New York. You've really made it." Athena said as they sat down in the uncomfortable chairs, Athena spotting Betty across the room causing her to send the blonde a quick smile. They were family after all. "Yeah, hey, you should come and stay with me sometime. I have a spare room and it would be great to have family up there. Here's my card." Athena was taken aback by the offer that Marcus had just given her, wondering how a Blossom could turn out so normal. She immediately took the card and placed in the back of her phone, a place she knew it would be safe.

"Yeah, totally. I'll take you up on that offer." The two quietened down as the man stood up the front, clearing his throat before beginning to read her father's will. "I, Clifford Cochrane Blossom, being of sound mind and body, do here inscribe the terms of my last will and testament. Firstly... Ownership of Thistlehouse will stay with our beloved matriarch, Roseanne Blossom. To my wife and partner, Penelope, I leave ownership of our greatest treasure, Thornhill, the exquisite mansion she made a home." Athena bit her lip as she saw her mother tense up before her shoulders dropped in disappointment.

"Now, the reason I contacted you and you all traveled to be here. Any and all remaining assets of my fortune will be divided in half. The first half will be distributed equally to anyone in Riverdale who can prove with medical authentication that even one drop of Blossom blood flows through their veins." Athena edged forward, wanting to hear where the second half of the fortune was to go. "I knew it!" Athena turned to see Alice Cooper storming in with fury in her eyes as she looked at her husband. "Alice, what the hell are you doing here?"

"Accusing you publicly. You only wanted a divorce so that you could cheat me out of your big, fancy Blossom payday." Marcus leaned over and whispered into Athena's ear. "This is exciting, I forgot how fun Blossom reunions are." Athena bit her lip to keep from laughing as she watched the spat. " My lawyer is gonna rip you apart. Isn't that right, Attorney McCoy? I will be taking half of whatever blood money you get from this inbred cesspool of a family. Yeah, that's right. I said inbred."

Athena and Marcus giggled at the horror on their family members' faces, not caring about the reputation. "Would you please just leave?" Penelope said in a calm, cool tone. "Shut your face, you half-melted ten cent trollop!" The situation escalated from there as they all watched Alice be escorted out of the home, yelling obscenities back at them.

"Now that the interloper has been escorted from the premises, we can finish our business. As I was saying... 'The other half of my fortune will go to my true heirs, Jason, Cheryl, and Athena." Athena bit her lip, in slight shock as Cheryl pulled her up from her chair and stepped up to the podium. "As one of the two true Blossom heir, I feel it is my sacred duty to say a few words. The Blossoms have been bathing in blood since Great-Grandpappy Blossom killed his brother. The original sin of Riverdale. Well, I stand before you to say, no more. No more blood. No more madness. No more horror."

Athena smiled at Cheryl before turning back to the front as a man shouted. "Here, here. Oh! Couldn't have said it better myself." Athena's blood ran cold as she looked at her father who stood before her, looking the same as he did all those nights ago. Her hands began to shake and she felt her eyes close in a dramatic fashion, fainting to the ground with her sister by her side. Athena awoke in an armchair, her nose twitching as she opened her eyes to see her mother and her father in front of her. "Calm down, it's not what you think." Penelope told her and Cheryl who eyed the man suspiciously, not trusting him.

"Hello, Cheryl. I'm your Uncle Claudius. Twin to your father." Athena kept her mouth shut, looking intensely at the man who wore a soft smile. "Twin? But... Daddy never said anything about having a brother." Cheryl questioned causing Claudius to sit down next to her, a sympathetic look on his face.

"Well, allow me to explain. When Clifford and I were boys, we were inseparable, modern-day Romulus and Remus. And it became apparent that I was being primed to inherit the Blossom empire. Till our th birthday. Clifford and I were down by Sweetwater River and he, uh... He pointed a rifle at me and with eyes void of humanity, he told me about the Blossom curse. How one of the twins always meets a violent end and often at the hands of the other. Well, he spared me. But that very night, I ran away from home without a trace."

Nana Rose leaned forward, grasping her sons hand. "It broke my heart. I couldn't bear to speak your name." Claudius tapped her hand back before turning back to the two girls who analyzed everything about him. "I joined the Merchant Marines. I sailed the seas desperate to outrun the Blossom curse. But enough about that, Let's get you, girls, some dinner." Athena was quick to stand up, going to the dinner table where everything sat nicely, Toni already sitting down as the whole family took their places with Athena sitting beside Nana Rose.

"So, Mr. Blossom, how does it feel being back in Riverdale after all these years?" Toni asked, trying to be friendly to Claudius who smiled at her whilst Penelope rolled her eyes. "Ignore that person, Claudius. I'd assumed tonight would be family only." Athena glared at her mother who simply glared back whilst Claudius was warm and welcoming. "It's all right. I enjoy meeting new people. Do you know, during my journeys as a sailor, I came upon the most wonderful island...Lesbos." Athena choked on her soup at her uncle's comment, something that Cheryl and Toni found as amusing as she did. "Oh, my God. It is the most beautiful natural place on Earth."

"Oh, you're not going back on the boat, dear boy, are you? You're staying here with us." Nana Rose grabbed her son's hand, smiling at him and looking at him with her one good eye. "Whatever I can do to make sure that you and this house are well cared for, Mother. That is, of course, as long as I'm welcome." Claudius sent a look to Penelope who ate a spoonful of soup. "There's a room over the garage. It's freezing in winter and boiling in summer but... It's there." Cheryl and Athena looked at each other, feeling slightly uneasy about the fact that a man that looked exactly like their father would be living with them.

This isolation boys is fucking awful like truly and utterly horrible but at least I'm writing more.

Thanks, Queenie.
