CHAPTER SEVEN
"You're cuts above
And you don't own worries or a chest full of heartache
And Yes, I know
That I'll never work out exactly how you're thinking"
Athena sat next to shaken up Kevin and Betty as they listened to his side of the story. The news had hit Riverdale High that their very own Midge and Moose were attacked by a madman with a gun. "It was full-on Carrie. Midge covered in Moose's blood, screaming like a banshee. It was insane." Athena felt hands on her shoulders and smiled knowing that it was her redheaded prince.
"Kev, what were you even doing there? You could've been shot too." Athena gently placed her hand on Archie's before turning to Kevin. "I was just night-jogging, you know, as one does, and suddenly I hear gunshots." Athena gave Betty an 'I'm not believing his story one bit." which Betty replied to with a nod. Archie quickly sat down next to Athena, throwing his arm around her shoulders. "Can we agree there's a killer on the loose?" Archie's words were frantic as his eyes darted around the room to each of his friends.
"With terrible aim." Jughead chuckled. Athena internally sighed with the realization that this would be his last day with them. "Jughead, he murdered Ms. Grundy." Jughead sighed out. "With a Cello bow, not a gun." Athena rubbed her boyfriend's arm as he sighed in defeat. Athena ignored the pang in her chest as he looked at her in slight distaste.
"Athena's right. We don't know these three crimes are related." Betty smiled and shrugged causing Archie's gaze to switch to his childhood best friend. "Guys, can we focus on what matters here? Midge and Moose are alive. Archie's dad survived. The new season of The Matchlerette starts tonight. You're all coming over to watch." Athena smiled at the end of Veronica's sentence with a smile on her face. Veronica and Athena both had binged watched all of the seasons and were excited about the new season.
"There's a shooter terrorizing the town. Do you really want us to watch a gross reality dating show?" Jughead furrowed his eyebrows at Veronica's suggestion causing Athena to scoff. "What I want is for you guys to meet my dad officially. Back in New York, my dad was always in his study, doing very bad things, as it turns out. I'm tired of closed doors. I need to know my dad's life and he needs to know mine."
"Count me in. I don't know about you guys but I cannot wait for tonight." Athena chuckled as Veronica gave her a huge smile. "Well, I'll make sure we'll all be there, V. Can't wait." Betty smiled at her best friends whereas the guys of the group sighed in defeat. Except for Kevin. "Thank you, guys ." The girls held hands before the football jocks burst in. "Hey, Andrews, we're going to the hospital to see Moose. You coming?" Reggie walked in with a line of footballers trailing behind him.
"Yeah, for sure. I'll see you all tonight." Archie gave Athena a quick kiss on the cheek before walking out with Reggie. "Oh, I better go too. Was supposed to meet my peer mentor at Southside High half an hour ago." Jughead stood up with Betty close behind him. Veronica scooted next to Athena as they watched the two interact. "God, they're adorable." Athena shook her head as Jughead looked at Betty with fond eyes.
"Just like you and a certain redhead." Veronica chuckled before noticing the soft look on Athena's face. She gulped before jumping up and quickly walking towards Jughead, leaving Ronnie on the couch. Athena had a tough time with emotions, especially relating to her relationship recently. "Jug, if you don't stay in touch, I will--I will take your hat and burn it."
"I'll miss you as well." The two quickly embraced before he walked away, leaving the rest in the room. "Do you think he'll be okay?" Betty asked with a worried look in her eyes. Athena could see why she was paranoid about their relationship. Athena would like to think that her Archie's relationship could survive a move like that but she couldn't be positive. "He'll be fine. Now, let's go see what's up with Kevin." Athena watched as the Keller boy walked out of the student lounge causing the two girls to rush up next to him as he walked.
"Okay, now that it is just us three. Night-jogging?" Athena and Betty looped arms with him either side. Athena raised an eyebrow as she waited for his lie. "Yeah. I'm trying to get in shape for wrestling." Athena smiled at him and fluttered her eyes at him before clearing her throat. "Okay, fine, I was cruising Fox Forest. But, I am going out for wrestling and I had to tell my dad I was jogging."
"And he believed you?" Athena sighed as they neared his locker. "Yeah. 'Cause he wants to believe me." Kevin scoffed before stopping at his locker. "Hey, look, we get it, you're post-Joaquin, but cruising? Come on, Kev, you know I hate that." Betty sighed in disappointment whereas Athena was almost proud that the gay man had found his calling.
"Kev, how about we get you onto Grind'em and we'll hook you up with some sweet gay guys?" Athena chuckled as Betty looked confused. "'Cause nobody's who they say they are online. At least in real life, what you see is what you get. There are no surprises." Kevin grabbed his books, not even glancing at the girls next to him. "You know what Betty. He does have a point." Betty scrunched up her nose at Athena before turning back to Kevin.
"Moose and Midge were shot literally 300 yards from Fox Forest, the person who did it is still out there. Tell me you won't go back until he's caught." Betty put on her mother voice causing Kevin to chuckle. "Okay, fine. I will not go back. Scout's honor." Athena chuckled at him before the three walked towards their next class. She sat and waited for the day to be over so she could go watch the marathon at Ronnie's place.
"Hey V, do you mind if I walk with you? Jug and Betty are going on that death trap and Archie is just at home." Athena asked causing Veronica to chuckle placing her hands together. "Of course and maybe we can talk about the boy problems, you're having?" Veronica chuckled before the two made their way back to her place.
"So, I'm sure you've noticed but Archie has been acting weird. He is so focused on getting justice and vengeance that it is kinda scaring me. We barely talk about anything serious, all he does is obsess over the murder of Grundy and the attempted one of his dad." Veronica blinked a few times to process everything that Athena just unleashed upon her.
"Well, I will say that I have had my fair share of crappy boyfriends from New York. My advice to you is to just be there for him. His dad was shot, I'm sure he's just scared and he'll be back to his normal Archie self." Athena smiled as they walked through the doors of The Pembrooke and soon began their marathon.

"Why don't you sit down next to Athena, Arch?" Archie sat on a separate seat even with the obvious spot free next to his girlfriend. He was leaning back with a stressed look on his face and sighed as he looked at the spot on the couch. "Arch?" Athena spoke softly, he barely was able to catch it but decided to quickly respond.
"I'm sorry. This thing with Moose. Honestly, it's like nobody cares. My dad keeps saying, 'Leave it to Sheriff Keller.' And I'm like 'yeah, he did a great job catching Jason's murderer.' Oh wait, I'm sorry, that was us." Archie went on his little rant causing the four to look at him with surprise. Athena felt awful. She hadn't even asked how he was feeling about Moose and Midge. "Archie, just calm down." Athena pointed downwards to reference the volume of his voice.
"No, don't stop him. Archie going all Travis Bickle is my favorite Archie yet." Jughead smirked, eating popcorn as he watched his best friend continue his rant. "Doesn't it feel like he's targeting us? I mean, specifically? I don't want anyone else getting hurt." Archie leaned forward with concerned in his eyes as he stared at his girlfriend. He wouldn't let her get hurt. But unfortunately, he didn't know that sometimes he would be the one hurting her.
"When we had a getaway on the Cape, all of us got together and hired private security to keep out the riffraff as an added layer of protection." Veronica smiled at the memory before hearing footsteps behind her. "I love that house." In walked Hiram and Hermione Lodge, both dressed to perfection with their no doubt expensive clothing. "Daddy." All of the teenagers stood up to meet Veronica's dad who seemed pretty intimidating.
"We're on our way to dinner at the club." Hermione smiled at the guests in her home before stopping next to her husband. "Yeah, but I wanted to meet your friends first." Veronica's dad smiled at the teens. "Great. Thank you." Veronica seemed thrilled that her father actually wanted to meet her friends and started to introduce them. "This is Athena Blossom."
"Very nice to meet you." Athena shook his hand firmly as she felt his eyes stare into her soul. Athena hadn't even realized the bad blood that could surge from what the Blossom family did to his. "I am so sorry about your father. Give your condolences to your mother." Athena smiled before nodding as he moved onto Archie. There was no doubt about it in Athena's mind. Hiram and the Blossoms would never get along considering that they're the ones that tore his family apart in the first place.
That episode was bloody AMAZING. Honestly, I really love the new Reggie. Like Charles Melton is fucking gorgeous, hot diggity damn. I'm not sure how fast I can get the next chapter up because I have an exam in exactly a week so I really am not sure but I will at least try to get it up before the next episode.
Thanks, Queenie.
