Chapter 6

Eli Cosway

My first time in detention This isn't what I thought it would look like.

It had to be that there was something different about Harmony High. Maybe it's because we didn't just have to sit and read a book or because it didn't look like an ordinary library. I had not seen the end of the aisles and the books hung on each shelf were countless.

So the deal is, there's a certain way the books were supposed to be arranged and one way or the other, it wasn't organized so we have to do this an hour every day after school for two weeks.

The library was eerily quiet and the librarian, Mrs Katherine, was an old woman in her sixties. It didn't look like she was still supposed to be working with her white hair and fragile glasses that sat on her nose. She had a high pitched voice and her tone was commanding but all of that was from the confinement of her seat. She never stood up, not for anything, not even when she screamed at me for dropping one of the books.

Luther was the quiet one, oddly quiet and because we were the only two students in the hall, one would expect that we would at least have one proper conversation. Whether or not he was mad at me for what happened, I didn't know, but the fact remains it was a mistake. Anyone could have done the same thing.

I placed the last book on the third shelf when the clock struck three, the end of the deafening silence.

"You can both leave now" Mrs Kathrine's voice echoed throughout the room. I let out a sigh of relief and glanced over at Luther. I only saw half of him at first and then the shelf behind him looking just as it was before. I was busy working my butt off all through while he was there, leaning against the shelf with a book opened in his hand.

"You didn't do any_"

"Shhh" He cut me off and that was the first time I heard a sound from him in the entire sixty minutes.

"What was that?" Came the voice of Mrs Kathrine from behind her desk "Want an extra hour?"

"No Mrs Katherine"

"You didn't do anything?" I repeated with my voice a little above a whisper "I don't get it, aren't we supposed to arrange them?"

"This" He said, closing the book and turning it over "Is a good book"

My eyes flickered to the red hard covered book, Shakespeare was the name displayed in front of it and the browned rough pages in between the curled edges of the cover suggested the book wasn't of the decade. I wasn't interested in books and Shakespeare's a little too complex for a girl that didn't know more than princess bedtime stories.

"I don't read books"

"It's obvious"

"Sorry?"

Luther didn't give me a response, he simply placed the book back on the shelf and walked away.

Great, so the first conversation I would have with him ends with a question.

I left the library with Mrs Katherine's snore resounding through the hall. I closed the door softly behind me and left for lunch. The hallways were empty on my way back and the smell of Luther was still strong in the air. Very sharp and sweet is the woody scent of his cologne.

The cafeteria was as good as empty with only a few people hanging around. It was a lot better than the buzzing sound that filled the air once the bells went off. Peace and quiet, so quiet, It made me consider spending an extra hour every day for the peace and quiet.

Luther, however, couldn't be found. I didn't see him after I left the school building, neither did my nose catch his scent. I couldn't place a finger on where exactly it stopped but it had to be that he went somewhere else in the school building.

Weird.

I sat by myself on one of the empty tables, placing before me a full tray of everything green and healthy. I guess that's the only disadvantage that comes with coming an hour later is settling for the things others don't want.

Right before I started my meal, I noticed someone staring at me. A presence, in particular and it was coming from behind me. They were like eyes boring their ways into my skull and I almost shrugged it off, thinking it was a mere feeling till a scent accompanied it. Something like tropical fruits and sugar.

"Um, hi?" I said, my voice coming out a little hoarse "Need something?"

"Janet"

Janet was one of the people I hardly noticed in the walls of the school. She was an average sized woman with bright dyed red hair and one of her eyebrows matching the style. She had moderately dark skin and it glowed in the afternoon sunlight like bronze. Her body size was similar to mine, only that she had a little more skin and she looked like she would pass as a Hollywood star.

"Nice to meet your Janet"

"And you're Eli Cosway?"

"That should probably be the most popular thing on the planet now, the girl that was caught with a boy"

"Different things fly around in here Eli, you'll get used to it eventually"

"I got detention too"

"I got one day to search out saffrons"

"What? You do that here?"

"This is Harmony High baby, we do the craziest things"

Unknown's POV

Indeed Isadora Gosselin, indeed. Or should I say Janet as you want us all to believe?

One story to another, pice by piece, dot to dot and the puzzle is complete. Who would have thought Isadora would finally come out of her shell? After all these years of being alone and away from the talk of the school. I remember old days vehemently, Isadora had her name laced with every talk within these walls. She was beauty and elegance in right proportions, the perfect blend.

Isadora Gosselin was one of the few that got into Harmony High by selection. She never had the means, not since her parents were executed when she was only a little girl. The story behind it is a great mystery, I heard her mother had a measly affair with the king and the queen made her pay dearly for it.

Isadora grew within the walls of the palace but only as a slave girl and I'd my calculations are correct, the Queen did it to get the public off her neck for having her hands in the death of the poor girl's parents. She grew without education but stayed in the king's library and read as much as she could to peak as the best local student in the whole town. But you know the old saying, not all that glitters is gold.

There's something quite peculiar about the young woman. She has nothing to lose and it fuels her strength.

However, she grew a little too soft over the years and definitely, it couldn't be that Isadora would pass through Harmony High without it leaving a mark on her. Watch them grow and then pull the little string that holds it all together and poof! It all goes down.

Isadora was one of the many that had her heart strung around the finger of Luther Westcote and any hit to him would be her downfall.

This is it, right before us.

Eli Cosway isn't just a catalyst, she's the missing piece.
