Carter's POV
Silence. That was all it was during the ride back to the bunker. My slumber was the greatest thing that had ever happened. Or that was what it felt like.
After arriving, I had been awaken by Castiel. He was nice and protective, but took things way too literal than he should've. He still made me uncomfortable sometimes, and I barely talked to him as is.
"Carter." Dean had said. Sam and Cas went into the bunker, while Dean and I stood next to the Impala.
"Why weren't you there? Why weren't you there to protect me! You said that you would!" I exclaimed. Tears gleamed in my eyes.
"We couldn't find you quick enough." Dean replied in a calm tone. Tears began to roll down my face.
"My best friend is dead." I muttered. Dean looked at me sympathetically, but I didn't feel like he had any feelings for me. None.
"I'm sorry." He said. All I did was stand there silent for a few moments before I took a step forwards and Dean pulled me into a tight, comforting hug.
"Are you hungry?" He asked. I stayed silent and didn't bother to say anything. I closed my eyes and remembered the sight of my best friends dead body.
I had pulled away from him and went inside quietly without any words.
"Carter." Sam said as he spotted me. I looked up at him as I sat down in one of the chairs, which was at the table closest to the entrance and the stairs.
"She's dead." I muttered softly, my tired gaze wandering up to Dean who stood at the entrance with the bags and came down, setting them on the table.
"Who?" Sam asked, sitting next to me.
"Valerie... she was like a sister to me." I muttered.
"I'm sorry, kiddo." Dean said as he sat down across from me. I felt the gazes of the other two fall upon me, and I shifted uncomfortably.
I silently stood up and had made my way into my room, still feeling the eyes of the three on me still. I sighed softly and closed the door shut behind me and lied down on the bed.
Dean's POV
I'm the worse person to have taken her in.
There's no turning back.
She needs to leave.
I need to leave.
The amount of thoughts that were flooding into my mind were nothing but me being negative and sorta positive. As I watched Carter leave and go into her room, I had stood and was silent for a moment.
"Find us a case?" I asked as I glanced towards Sam, Cas had already disappeared to wherever.
"Uh, yeah." Sam replied as he had opened the lid to the laptop, many tabs open on certain articles. I skimmed through the words.
"Our best lead is demon." Sam had commented while I was reading. "Witnesses and victims are saying that they all saw black eyes, uh, others saying that there was something off about each person. And they all claim that whoever they saw the black eyes with, that they were either close friends or relatives." Sam had then added.
I nodded before I had looked back at Sam. "We'll leave tomorrow." I decided and then made my way down the hall, where I had glanced at the room where Carter was. I shook my head before I headed for the kitchen and grabbed myself a beer.
I had looked over to see Carter entering the kitchen. She had stole a quick glance from me before she had sat down on the table.
"I'm leaving," she muttered as she locked eyes with me.
"You'll get yourself killed." I replied, setting the bottle of beer down on the counter, which I leaned against and crossed my arms across my chest.
"So what? Everyone I love is already dead or gone. My dad died in the military, my stepdad is a piece of literal shit. My brother is in a whole different state. My best friend died in front of me." Carter stated. "Nobody would even notice because everyone's gone."
"Carter," I sighed. "If you go out there alone and you know what goes bump in the night, you'll for sure get killed." I said.
"I don't care anymore, Dean. It doesn't matter what I do or anything." Carter replies. She had looked away and began fiddling with her fingers.
"I would've never taken you in and look for you if I didn't care. So if you leave, then I guess that's it then."
"So then let me leave."
"You'll be dead."
"I don't care."
"Then if you leave, there's no turning back."
Carter had immediately stood up and made her way into her room. I could hear drawers open and close, things ruffling. I sighed softly.
I've really fucked up.
hi guys! i do apologize for not updating this sooner. i do know where the story is going and how this is all going to play out, but i did kinda lose some motivation to continue writing for this book, which means updates will not be as frequent. and chapters might not be as long as normal.
hope you guys are having a good day/night!
peace, devils 😈
