Dean's POV
"She wanted to go so I let her. It was all her decision, Cas." I stated.
"I haven't been fully truthful to you, Dean." Cas said after a moment of silence.
"What?" I then questioned.
"Carter isn't human. I can't get a grasp on what she is, but she's much stronger than we think." Cas went on to explain.
"Is that why Apollyn wanted her?" I asked.
"Perhaps." Cas then shrugged his shoulders.
"How would she know? Carter didn't show any signs of not being exactly human." I explained, and Cas had thought momentarily.
"Perhaps it was why the vampires killed her family. Anyways, most celestial beings can sense another one that is nearby or around." Cas informed me. I was already aware of that.
"I know. But there was nothing that pointed to her not being human, so why do you know that?" I asked. I wasn't sure how to feel. I was sorta upset with Cas for not telling me that Carter isn't human, but I was also sorta lost.
"She probably isn't aware of her abilities. But whatever she is, she isn't human and I know that for a fact." Castiel replies.
I sighed softly. "Alright," I murmured before I had looked up to see Carter standing at the top of the flight of stairs.
"Carter?!" I exclaimed, confusion lacing my voice and then my facial expression.
"Dean," She said softly. "I'm sorry." She then added. Carter had simply stood at the top, and Sam came out from wherever he was.
Sam was just as confused as I was. He squinted before he looked at me for a moment and then back at the teenager.
"Apollyn teleported me here or some shit like that." Carter states, looking down at us from the top of the stairs.
"Why?" Sam asked as we both watched her come down the stairs, her duffel bag over her shoulder.
"Because I wanted to." She said as she set her bag down on the table. "I was stupid to think I could just leave." She added on, looking towards me.
"Did she ever mention anything about your powers?" Cas suddenly asked, and my brother and I were slightly shocked by it.
Carter took a moment to respond. "Yes."
"What did she say about it?" Cas asked.
"She said that it would be useful to her more than me, and I had made her fly through the air." She informed he three of us.
"A Nephlim." Cas then muttered. "That's what she is."
"How?" I asked.
Cas turned towards me as he began explaining. "Either her mother was possessed by a demon, or her father was. But usually, it happens during you-know-what and when she was born, she had been born with powers. Usually I can sense — or most celestial beings can." He then finished with a small sigh.
"If I'm this powerful thing, then what do I do with it?" Carter asked and we all turned towards her.
"We help you." I said.
Carter sighed softly. "What if I put you guys into danger or something?" She asked.
"Well we will get through it." Sam decided.
Carter shifted her weight and then looked towards me once more, tears gleaming in her eyes. She then looked towards Sam, then Cas, and back to me. "I just don't want to hurt anybody..." her voice trailed off as she began fiddling with her fingers.
I approached her and pulled her into a hug. "You won't. We can get though this." I said softly to her. She nodded as she pulled away from me and picked up her duffel bag, beginning to walk towards her room.
I stood in the doorway, seeing her unpack and put them back the way they were. Even if she wasn't gone that long, it still felt like a while.
"You can get through this, Carter." I said reassuringly.
"I'm a seventeen year old who has some weird powers and knows what goes bump in the night. How do I get through that?" She replied, looking towards me before she had returned to putting her clothes in the dresser.
"When I got into hunting, I was way younger than you. Actually, I was younger than you when I knew about monsters. I had to protect Sammy from them and pray that we wouldn't get hurt. Our dad dragged us around for years since our mother died. Now he's gone, and we had to get through that. You can get through anything if you put your mind to it." I explained.
"If you can get through anything, then how come I think that no matter what I won't be able to get through this?" Carter asked as she sat down in her bed and I entered her room, sitting next to her.
"Because you don't believe in yourself."
"But I'm already too far gone to believe that I can get through anything."
"We're all already too far gone."
