"Where will you be going?" My mom asked.

"Just to the school for the football game. I have money to get in. I'll be home around nine." I smiled softly.

Mom nodded. "Nothing past nine, alright?" She demanded, but it was nothing stern.

"Of course. Valerie will be driving me there and back. She'll be here in a minute." I replied.

Valerie and I have been best friends since kindergarten. We pretty much became sisters, since my brother had just graduated. My dad had been shot while serving and my mom got remarried. The man she had gotten remarried to wasn't the best person, and I never really talked to him.

After sitting at the table in the dining room, I heard a knock at the door. I had quickly gotten up and opened the door. "Valerie!" I had exclaimed before everything turned black. I had hit the ground, feeling the cold wooden flooring against my body.

I had woke up in a dark room, only one light in front of me. It was very dim and didn't contain very much light. My eyes were blurry before they had focused on a dark figure in the distance, which then moved forward and approached me.

"What are you going to do to me?" I asked and looked at the man up and down. He had bleach blonde hair and ocean eyes. I watched closely, his smile containing very sharp teeth. I had began squirming, obviously feeling scared.

"Oh... just going to snack on you. Sound good?" He replied with an evil smirk on his face. I had continued to squirm before I had heard a man's voice yell. The creature had looked at me before he had looked up.

"Hey jackass!" He yelled as he then approached with a large blade. The creature had stood frozen. I smiled and then it had faded away as the man had swiped with the large blade, getting a clean cut. The head of the man fell off of his shoulders, which then his body fell with it too.

"Who the hell are you?" I asked as I felt my hands break free. I stood and rubbed my wrists as I had looked down at the limp body and the head. I had felt like puking before I realized that this man had actually killed this creature.

"The man who saved your life, now come on. We're going to take you home," he said. I nodded and had followed after him.

"Who's we?" I asked as we walked down a long hallway.

"My brother and I. Now, just come on," he replied. We were soon outside, and there was an old Impala sitting outside.

The man opened the back door and I climbed in. The leather seats were colder than expected. They've probably been there longer than I had. Was there more of those things?

Another man climbed in, the first one looked over. "They all dead?" He asked. The second man nodded as he turned and looked at me.

"What you saw back there was call a vampire. They're real. So are werewolves and many other mythical creatures. Anyways, I'm Sam and this is my brother, Dean. We hunt them for a living and try to save people like you." Sam said.

I nodded. "You think?" I said with a hint of sarcasm. I wasn't sure how to feel which was explaining why I was being a complete ass to the two men I didn't even bother to remember the names of.

"Where do you live?" Dean then asked. He looked at me in the rear view.

"Can I just walk home? I'd rather not stay in this car with some complete strangers who literally killed someone in front of me." I simply stated. There was some sass hinted in my tone.

"Look, kid, you don't understand. There's things out there that will kill you," Dean said sternly. I sighed softly.

"Then who are you?" I asked.

"Again, the man who saved your life." Dean replied.

"North 5th street." I then said after a moment. I had lived in Kansas since I was born, and I'd very much rather not be here anymore. But if there was so many creatures out there, I might as well not bother to leave. I was almost eighteen, and next year I would be graduating.

Dean had pulled up to my street. "This one right here." I said as I pointed towards a dark blue house with a veranda and a dark roof.

He had pulled over on the side of the road, which I had quickly climbed out and ran into my house. The door was left ajar and as I entered, it was a sight I never would want to see.

Blood surrounded my mothers limp body and I had backed away, tears stinging my eyes. I dropped to my knees and began crying, feeling my heart drop.

This is a dream. This is a dream. That was all I could tell myself. But when I realized that reality was actually here, I couldn't believe it. My mother was dead.

I heard footsteps behind me. "Kid.." Dean's voice echoed throughout the old house.

"Leave!" I then yelled. My voice broke as I continued to sob on my knees. I had slowly stood up before I turned and looked at the two brothers.

"What do we do?" I had then asked.

"We pay our respects. Your mom was probably amazing," Sam replies with a sad and sympathetic smile.

"What's your name?" Dean had asked.

"Carter Cooper," I had replied as I had attempted to call down. I was shaking as more tears had streamed down my face.

«Time Skip»

"Carter," Sam had turned to me.

I glanced up from my hands, in which I was fiddling with.

"Do you have anymore family here?" He asked.

I shook my head. "No.." my voice trailed off.

We were driving away from where we had buried my mom. It was in a peaceful spot where she used to always take my as a toddler and little kid.

Sam stole a glance at Dean before looking at me again.

"Who are you guys?" I then asked.

"You want to know us?" Dean had asked as he looked at me in the mirror.

"Obviously. I would've never asked if I didn't want to know." I had replied.

"Then come with us. We'll protect you."
