Two Poppies,two different lives - Part 4
High School AU/Fanasty AU
The pink Poppy sits on the couch of the living room in the house angstly. School should be over by now so Branch should be on her way here. That made him feel more scared and worry if doing this was a mistake. He couldn't stop himself from second guessing himself and his choices that brought him to this point.
" I chose to do this so... I gotta stop being such a chicken...", Poppy says to himself unhappily.
Then he heard a knock at the door! His ears perk a little as he turns his head to the door. It must be Branch. The troll slowly gets up and nervously walks over to the door. He stares at the door for a second then let's out a breath he was holding in unknowingly at first. There is no turning back now.
Poppy opens the door slowly and nervously revealing the troll he was waiting for. Branch had a light folder in her hands. It was all the work that he had missed and today's homework. She thought that by bringing him this he will be able to catch up. Poppy awkwardly invites her to come in. Branch wonders why he has been so awkward lately as she walks in and takes a seat on the couch. She knew that something was off about him and felt that for a while now.
" Is your mom home?",Branch asks simply.
" No. It's just us... She had to do some stuff to do.", Poppy replies awkwardly.
He closes the door behind then awkwardly joins her on the couch. Branch watched him expecting him to say something but, there was just awkward silence for a few seconds. Branch coughs feeling uncomfortable with all the silence.
" So what was it that you wanted to talk about?", Branch says softly and calmly.
" Hmmm... You know how I have been acting kind of different lately? ",Poppy says a little nervously.
Branch raises an eyebrow at Poppy. Kind of different? He act more than just a little different when compared to the Poppy she knew! The pink troll notices the look she is giving him as she spoke. It was clear that she noticed more than he thought she did.
" Kind of?", Branch questions.
" Okay. A lot but, there is reason for that... I - I - I'm not who you think I am... ", Poppy replies honestly then nervously and softly.
" What do you mean?", Branch says confused.
Meanwhile in the other world... The grey Poppy is simply hanging out with the popular Branch. They are in her house completely alone. Branch gently and neatly places her bag on the couch. The house was modest and simple on the outside but, the inside is more loud and proud. Branch's parents didn't care if their different styles in a home combined weren't perfection. It is their home and will always be their family's home.
" Do you want anything to drink?", Branch asks politely and kindly.
" Nah. I'm good. ", Poppy replies honestly.
Branch sits down next to her bag as she rests her phone on the coffee table. It starts to ding receiving texts and messages as she takes out one of her school books from her bag. Poppy noticed how she didn't even bothered to check her phone but, he didn't think about it much. It is probably some of her other friends. Then when Branch finally picked up her phone she became very annoyed.
"I thought I blocked that idiot!", Branch exclaims annoyed.
" Who are you talking about?", Poppy replies confused.
" It's just my ex... He decided to quote " Forgive me for breaking up with him and that he will take me back"... Can't believe that I actually dated him. ", Branch replies bitterly.
Poppy didn't know how the relationship she had with her ex ended exactly but,he did have an good idea why they brokeup. Based off how she talked about him and what everyone said, the guy was cheating on her with a random girl he met at a party. Branch blocks her ex again then puts her phone on vibrate. She places her phone screen down on the table to avoid seeing anymore unwanted messages. After all that Branch had stopped thinking about her ex and his stupid text messages and decided to do her homework. If Branch doesn't do it now she won't get anything done since she still has cheer practice which takes lot out of her.
Poppy decided to do the same but, every few minutes he ended up looking at her with a frown on his face. The silence between them wasn't helping much either in the male troll's opinion. He didn't like seeing Branch unhappy like that. Then instead of remaining quiet he started talking trying to help her become relaxed and happy again and it actually was working this time. Poppy never had this much success with his Branch but, at least he knew the right things to say with this version of her at the moment.
The blue troll bursts into laughter cause of the goofy troll's antics attempting to cheer her up. Branch couldn't contain her laughter at all! She hadn't laughed like this for a long while. Branch also hadn't seen her Poppy act like this for much longer actually. Ever since the Poppy she knew turned grey he seemed to lost his sense of humor, his smile and even his goofiness that she adored. She missed that side of him and found it comforting to see it again.
" Okay. That's enough, wiseguy.", Branch jokes playfully.
Poppy smiles in victory happily at her then turns his head back to the book in his hands. Branch smiles softly and subtly at him with a soft and happy expression in her eyes. She had lost all focus in her work as she continued to observe him. In her mind she wonders if he was finally healing from the past. Ever since her Poppy lost his father he wasn't the same anymore. As far as she knew and hoped that could be the reason why he has been acting differently and happier lately.
Poppy didn't notice how Branch was watching him til he slightly looked over at her. She kept smiling sweetly at him as she observes him. Poppy turns his head fully towards her as he lowers the book in his hands. The way she watched him didn't seem creepy or werid. More rather it was like she was noticing something or simply thinking.
"What?", Poppy asks confused and softly.
" I don't know everything that goes on with you but, I like this new change... ",Branch admits kindly and caringly.
Back in the other world, the pink unhappy troll stares at the grey Branch waiting for her reaction nervously. He had told her everything from the switching places to now. Branch is in shock from all new information. The grey troll wasn't speechless about the matter as she stood up trying to process everything. Branch walks back and forth in front of the unhappy Poppy who watches her do so.
" So your telling me that he is somewhere in your world probably getting his butt kicked learning what it's like to have the world against you and your stuck here for who knows how long in his place where you must learn some lesson about life being sweet and nice?!", Branch says in disbelief and shock loudly.
" Well I don't really know if he getting the worst end of the stick right now but, I don't see how his way of life as sweet. Sure everyone was nice to me and wants to be my friend but, I rather be alone or simply just hang around my Branch or you... Everyone else is just too much... ", Poppy replies honestly and annoyed.
The grey girl tries to calm herself down. She was basically panicking over this and the troll watching her understood that. He would had did the same if he was in her postion and did panick when this werid adventure started. Branch sits down on the couch as Poppy contuines to watch her silently. The pink troll is completely unsure what to do as he awkwardly sits there.
Then he notices a bruise on her left arm that he hadn't noticed before. It partly covered by the sleeve of her shirt. It seemed like it was formed recently. Poppy remembers the days when he would come home with such bruises. Terence acted like bruising him like that was a fun game but, it isn't so much fun when your the one getting bruised.
" Why do you have that mark on your arm?", Poppy asks concerned and softly.
" It's no big deal... I just rather not talk about it...", Branch replies lowly and unhappily.
As she brushes off the question it caused a feeling of Deja Vu to wash over Poppy. Her words repeated in his mind reminding him of something that happened a couple years ago. It was too familiar to be unrecognizable. He saw through her words like they were made of glass.
" Are you sure about that?", Poppy asked.
Back with the Postive Poppy; things had took an turn... How did she find out the truth? Poppy didn't tell her but,he made one big mistake! He should had just kept his mouth shut when it came to certain topics of only her and her Poppy would know or understand. Branch wasn't some dumb cheerleader. She had thought that he was getting better and getting out of his dark shell but, now everything made sense why he was acting different!
" You Better Tell Me Who You Actually Are And What You Did With Poppy Or I Will Kick Your Ass!", Branch says threateningly.
She was shorter than him but, yet as she stood there angrily she loomed over him like an terrifying monster. Her glare felt like it could burn holes into his body. Poppy already knew how powerful this Branch was, even know how she didn't look like the type to fight. She may avoided them most of the time but, she can still pack an hard punch. Poppy caved immediately in that moment.
" Okay! Calm down! It's not what you think! I didn't know that I was going to switch places with him until it happened!", Poppy says panicked.
" So you do want to get your ass kicked?", Branch comments seriously not believing him.
" What if I show you proof? ", Poppy replies.
Branch didn't think he would actually have proof for his claim of him and her Poppy switching places. The claim itself sounded like it could be completely false to her. For all she knew he could be lying to her and had her real friend in his basement!
The grey troll could easily see that she didn't believe him as she continued to glare at him. Poppy's hand quickly digs into his hair and grabs the magic mirror. It was the only proof he had and maybe if she saw her Poppy and talked to him, she will start believing the unbelievable truth. It is the only thing Poppy could think of to get himself out of trouble. He takes the object out of his hair and shows her the mirror.
The glass of mirror glows brightly as it magically shows where the other version of Poppy was. Branch raised an eyebrow as she saw an pink troll in the mirror. She didn't recognize her Poppy as her Poppy and there was evidence of it written in her expression. The boy in the mirror's eyes light up at first when he saw her but, then completely faded into fear when he noticed all the signs she was displaying in her body language.
" Do You Think This Is A Joke?!", Branch says angrily.
The grey troll's hope for survival was crashed into pieces. His hopeful smile faded into an scared little frown as his eyes widen. The Poppy in mirror shared an similar reaction fully knowing what was going to happen in thirty seconds if he didn't say explained what had happened. The blue troll turns her hand into a fist but, when she raised it up ready to strike the imposter an certain voice stopped her!
" WAIT! BRANCH STOP! I CAN EXPLAIN EVERYTHING! ", the Poppy in the mirror yelled.
