Family Ties
Over by Techno Lagoon, at the Tidepool household, Twilight was busy mixing something up in a mixing bowl, using a small spoon to taste it before she pulled out what looked like a small container of salty kelp flakes and sprinkled a little bit of it into the bowl. Meanwhile, Laguna was in her room, writing something in her special thoughts diary. As she wrote, Twilight soon entered the room, carrying a small purple bowl with a spoon inside of it, saying, "Knock knock, I brought ya something to eat, kelpcake." Laguna looked up and smiled, saying while accepting the bowl as she closed her thoughts diary and placed it down beside her, "Thanks, mom, though I could've gotten something to eat myself." Twilight could not help but chuckle, saying while she watched her daughter take a few bites of the food inside the bowl (which was of a simply seaweed salad), "True, but you've been cooped up in here all morning, and when ya didn't come out to eat lunch earlier, I figured I do something nice for ya." Laguna blushed a bit in embarrassment, saying, "Sorry about not coming out earlier. I was trying to catch up on my reading, and I guess I just forgot. I was gonna come out afterward, but then, I had a thought I wanted to write about in my diary and wanted to write in it before going to get something to eat." Twilight, curious, asked, "Ooh, what did you write about? Or is it something you want to keep to yourself, for now, kelpcake"? Laguna thought about it before she placed the bowl of food down on her nightstand and reached over for her diary, saying, "It's nothing special, just a little poem that came into my head after a dream I had last night. Want me to read it to you"? Twilight nodded as Laguna read the poem she wrote out loud, saying, "The waves of my emotions roll back into the sea, and project itself forward in times of uncertainty. It scales thy mountains of doubts and fears and washes over dry plains so dear. But in my soul, it does not ram, contained by a structured dam, where it only washes over of the walls lower down. Is it scary? Yes, but I face it without a frown." When Laguna finished reading her poem, Twilight applauded her daughter, saying, "Wow, now that was a beautiful poem, kelpcake," as Laguna replied, "Thanks, mom. It was just something I came up with based on the dream I had, which was about me riding down a river current that led to the ocean. Then, I just connected it with my emotions and came up with this." Twilight then said, "Well, I think it's a very beautiful poem, kelpcake," as she let her daughter come close and hug her, the elder Techno Troll hugging her back. However, during their little embrace, Twilight seemed to notice something: Laguna seemed to look a little dazed like she had something on her mind. Wanting to see, Twilight slowly placed her hand under her daughter's chin and rose her head, asking, "Kelpcake, are ya feeling ok? Is there something you want to tell me"?
Laguna looked up at her mother, saying, "No...yes? Well, sort of, but it's stupid." Twilight adjusted her left arm so she could wrap it around Laguna's shoulders, saying, "Kelpcake, whatever's on your mind can't ever be stupid, especially if it's something that seems to be bothering you. You can tell me whatever you're feeling, kelpcake." Laguna looked at her mother, showing a small smile before she then reached under her pillow and pulled something out: a photo of the day that Twilight Tidepool married Marcus Tidepool. When Twilight saw the photo, she remembered that day, in particular, mentioning, "Oh, that's the day your father and I ended up marrying. The wedding ceremony was beautiful, though the scenery was questionable." Laguna looked down at the photo while asking, "Mom...do you...miss dad"? Twilight was a little surprised to hear her daughter ask this question, with Laguna mentioning, "I only ask because, well, ever since my friends and I rescued you from the Game Room, I don't think the news of you returning to Troll society has gotten to him yet, and well...I know you said you no longer want anything to do with him, but be honest with me, mom...do you miss him"? Twilight bit her lip, feeling unsure how to answer that question in particular, but she knew that she had to be honest with her daughter. So, she slowly breathed in and out and answered, "I'm not gonna lie, kelpcake: deep down...I kind of do...only because well, he was the first Troll I ever fell in love with. But, you know what? There's one Troll who I love more and matters more to me than Marcus, and that's you, kelpcake. You're my daughter, and I care about you so much, and after what Marcus did to hurt ya, I could care less about that barnacle or if he knows I'm still alive." Laguna felt a bit better, hearing her mom say that, before she slowly grew a frown and said, "You know, mom...deep down, I kind of miss him too, only because well...despite him assaulting him and hurting me the ways that he did...he was my father. And...it's hard some days to be able to do certain things and...not wish my father was here doing them with me." Twilight seemed to understand why Laguna was feeling the way that she did: Laguna missed having a father figure in her life. She knew she couldn't stand her father after what he had done, but there was still a side of Laguna that sort of, in a way, missed experiencing having a paternal Troll looking out for her.
Twilight let her daughter hug her again as she said, gently rubbing Laguna's back to soothe her, "Awwww, kelpcake. It's ok, sweetie, I know it can be hard to get through each day without having a father beside you to shower you with love and care." Laguna nodded in agreement, saying as her fins drooped down to signify her sadness, "It sure is. I always have to bite my tongue in the morning when I wake up, keeping that inside of me because I don't want to be openly sad about it everyday, but it can be tough, especially when I see other Trolls having fun or spending time with their fathers. I can't help but feel so...I don't know...I guess...jealous? Yeah, I feel so jealous. Every time that I see Trolls hanging out with their fathers, I feel my stomach burning up, my heart beats fast as my chest clenches, and I just feel so many different emotions: sadness, anger, fear, etc. I don't want to feel like that, I don't like it, I just can't help it. I know you probably don't like it, but...I have to be honest about my feelings, mom." Twilight let her daughter separate from the hug so she could lay back on the bed, as Twilight remained sitting on the bed, saying, "Hey, kelpcake, it's gonna be alright. Look, like I said, you are free to feel however you want, no shame in letting your emotions out. I can understand why you feel this way, but hey, I may not be a father, but I can still shower you with love and care, and I'm always here and ready to spend time with you, kelpcake." Laguna sighed sadly, saying, "I know, mom, and I really appreciate it, but...it's just not the same." Twilight couldn't help but feel bad for her daughter; she knew how much Laguna really wanted to have a father figure in her life, and if it couldn't be Marcus since he had assaulted her and basically had no participation in her childhood, then who could? She always wanted the best for her daughter, but there were some things that she couldn't provide, despite how badly she wanted to.
Later on, Twilight was sitting at a table by the Trollstopia cafe, sipping on a cup of hot cocoa while in thought, reminiscing her conversation with Laguna earlier. She stared down at the chocolatey liquid inside the mug, sighing sadly, before she heard a voice approach her and ask, "Hey there, you ok"? Twilight looked up and saw a pair of Funk Trolls (both bipedal) looking up at her. One was a female with pink skin and bright pink fur, a single magenta stripe that went around her body horizontally and purple stripes on her neck, light blue eyes, a light green nose, and wavy purple hair that was styled in a half-bun, with the rest of her hair cascading 3 inches past her chin. The other one, who was a male, had red skin and matching red fur on his neck, cobalt blue legs, dark blue hair (same color as Laguna's and McJagger's) that was styled in a wavy fashion that went over the right side of his face (think of it like King Quincy's), purple eyes, a dark red nose, blue stripes on his neck, silver tassels on his body instead of red fur, and wore a lot of necklaces around his neck, and bracelets on his feet. Twilight looked at both Funk Trolls while saying, "I'm ok, you two. Just a bit in thought, you know. Who may you two be"? The female one smiled, saying (voiced by Tia Mowry), "I'm Swag Step, but you can call me Swag for short. This is my husband Chase Base." Chase Base waved while saying (voiced by Craig Robinson), "Greetings to you, ma'am. You must be Twilight Tidepool, Laguna's mother." Twilight smiled and stood up, holding her mug while saying, "Yeah, that's right. You two know my little kelpcake"? Swag Step answered, "Yeah. Our son talks about her all of the time, she makes him so happy." Twilight then gasped happily and in realization, saying, "Crikey, you both must be McJagger's folks! Well, it's nice to finally meet the proud parents of such a caring Funk Troll. My daughter raves about McJagger, he is really such a sweetheart." Chase Bass chuckled, saying, "Well, our son has always loved to stride to make the world a greater place, and spread peace and happiness everywhere he goes. He's been a "people's" Troll since he was a baby." Swag Step added, "Anytime someone was sad, he was always there to cheer them up, he loves to make others smile." Twilight tipped her fedora, adding, "He's definitely made my daughter smile. I haven't seen her this happy in a while, especially considering what life was like for her back in the reef."
Chase Bass then commented, "We know; our son told us about what happened to your daughter," before Swag Step added, "And seeing him being such a gentlemen and so caring to Laguna, it just warms our hearts, and you know, we can't help but feel proud of him." Twilight added, "I know what you mean; I'm proud of your son too. He's shown to be a very good gentlemen, and treating my kelpcake so well, and he's been keeping his promise not to hurt her, though I do remind him with the ol' snake pit warning every now and then." The three adults all chuckled before Swag Step then commented, "Hey, you know, we're all going on a picnic later tonight. Would you and Laguna like to join us"? Twilight smiled, saying, "Sure, mate, we'd love to! do you need me to bring anything"? Chase Bass replied, "Only yourselves, and a smile. Meet up in Vibe City at 6pm"? Twilight nodded as she stated, "Count us in"! Hours later, when 6pm rolled around, Twilight and Laguna both headed over to where Vibe City was parked, and a bubble beam greeted them, bringing the Techno pair up into the spaceship, and into the heart of the bustling city. The bubble floated them above the streets so that they could travel freely without getting lost in the large crowd of Funk Trolls. They remained floating for a while before Laguna pointed out the park, saying, "Look, there's the Vibe City park, mom," as Twilight looked down and saw. It wasn't the only thing they saw because then Twilight caught notice of something and chuckled, saying, "Look, there they are," while pointing to one small area with a picnic blanket and a basket on top, where McJagger and his parents were, spotting them up in the sky and waving at the Techno pair. The bubble taxi slowly lowered towards them and once it made contact with the ground, the bubble popped so Laguna and Twilight could walk out of it with ease. McJagger came towards them first, saying, "Laguna, Mrs. T, it's so great you both could make it," as Twilight tipped her fedora while saying, "Awww, it was nothing, thank you kindly for inviting us to join." Swag Step then piped in, saying, "No problem, it's a pleasure. Plus, this also gives us the chance to all get to know each other knowing soon, we're gonna be one big family once our kids marry. I honestly don't know what to look forward to more: the day they propose and get married, or the day they welcome grandchildren into the family" McJagger and Laguna both blushed bright pink in embarrassment as McJagger covered his face in embarrassment while saying, "Mom, don't say that out loud," while Twilight then added, "Why not, she does make a good point," as Laguna then shouted, "Mom, not you too," in embarrassment too. The parents all shared a laugh as Chase Bass opened the picnic basket to pull out some plastic cups and a pitcher of pink lemonade while saying, "I remember when my father used to playful tease me like that when I began to date Swag here. He always liked to ask, "Son, when are you gonna buy a ring for this girl? That question always made me light up like a lantern with a blush so bright, you could mistake it for a heater."
McJagger then said, "Well, in all seriousness, the topic of marriage and children is still one that we aren't set on discussing yet. For now, I am happy just to be dating this beautiful Techno Troll in front of me," as Laguna felt her blush grow deeper and her fins drooped a bit in embarrassment while she smiled. Laguna then added, "And I'm happy to be dating this sweet, smart, funny, and friendly Funk Troll in front of me." The two leaned forward and touched noses, their cheeks flaring pink while they did so. The parents thought that this might was so adorable as Swag Step, hilariously, pulled out a camera and took a picture of McJagger and Laguna in the position that they were, the light so bright, it almost blinded both Trolls and made them feel a bit dizzy. Laguna took a minute to rub her eyes to try and soothe them from the flash while McJagger blinked his eyes a couple of times while he said, "Mom, did you have to take a picture"? Swag Step pulled out the photo that the camera produced, saying, "Sorry son, I can't help it; seeing you and your girlfriend being cute together was so adorable, I had to capture the memory." Twilight was snickering before she asked, "Send me a copy, mate, when you can"! Chase Bass then started to pass out the cups of lemonade while he said, "Well now, why don't we all continue this chat while we eat"? Everyone all nodded in agreement as he and Swag Step started to take the rest of the food out of the basket, which consisted of a bowl of white rice (with plastic wrap on the bowl so the rice couldn't spill, a container of what looked like vegetable curry, and another container that had what seemed like pastries inside of it, but these pastries were triangular-prism shaped. The scent of the food was enough to make Laguna and Twilight's taste buds feel intrigued, as Twilight asked, "Crikey, mates, what smells so good"? Swag Step replied while getting plates out, "Oh, it's probably the curry you're smelling. I call it my Down-to-Earth Veggie Curry, consisted of carrots, potatoes, peas, some leafy greens, and some peppers and spices for a little bit of heat, and a lot of flavor. The broth i use makes it thick, but liquidy, so it can easily be poured right on top of the rice." McJagger then explained as he picked up the container of pastries and opened it, "And these are my dad's specialties: samosas. They're like the regular jelly-filled pastries we eat sometimes, but these can be both sweet and savory. It can be filled with jelly or cream if you crave a dessert, but for meals like this, we often fill it with peas or spiced potatoes, and they are so good"! Laguna wrote about the food in her notepad, commenting, "Fascinating, and they definitely look as appetizing as they appear to be."
Swag Step scooped some rice onto a plate and then served some of the curry on top of the rice before placing a samosa next to it, and then placed a plastic spoon onto the plate, saying "Now, who wants the first plate"? Laguna and her mom looked at each other curiously, before her mother said, "You can take the first one, Laguna." Laguna nodded and accepted the plate and while her mother was served the next plate, Laguna decided to give the curry and rice a try, using a spoon to pick some of it up and placed it in her mouth. Upon contact with her tongue, she could immediately taste the spiciness of the curry, but the richness of the rice and vegetables balanced the spiciness nicely, and above all...it was so delicious! Laguna had to resist the urge to just scoop the whole plate of food into her mouth as she swallowed before saying, "Note: this is so good! You're quite the chef, Ms. Step," as Swag Step smiled happily, saying, "Thanks, and remember, no need for formality; you are more than welcome to call me Swag. That goes for you too, Mrs. T," as Twilight nodded, saying after swallowing the food she had in her mouth, "Got it, and y'all can call me Twilight, so long as we're being informal." Everyone broke into laughter as they ate together, having a fun time together. They exchanged stories and jokes, and everyone got the chance to get to know each other's parents well. For example, McJagger got to learn about how Twilight's first pet was a clownfish she named Nemo, and Laguna got to learn how Chase Bass was a former scientist for the Vibe City laboratory, and how Swag Step was a cheerleader when she attended high school. And that was only a few of some of the facts that everyone got to learn. After the group had finished dinner, Chase Bass was pouring out some more pink lemonade to anyone who wanted a second cup, and was currently serving Twilight, who was in the middle of telling a story, as she took a sip before adding, "And that's when I discovered that I had a secret passion for bead-weaving. I loved making them lil' fancy necklaces and bracelets." McJagger, impressed, commented while raising his cup, "Wow, Twilight, I didn't know you knew how to make bead jewelry." Twilight shrugged while saying, "Eh, it's a hobby, but a fun one. I even made the same necklace and bracelet Laguna wears." Laguna looked at the bracelet she wore on her wrist and the necklace around her neck, before asking, "Really, mom"? Twilight nodded, saying, "Yep. Finding the glowpaz I used to make it wasn't easy, but it was worth it. I wanted it to be a special gift for my little girl."
Chase Bass then commented, "Beautiful story, Twilight. You definitely seem to care about your daughter a lot." Laguna then said, "Yeah, ever since my friends and I found her, and we got the chance to reunite, my mom and I have been wanting to forge a bond that we didn't get to form when I was little." Twilight added, "Being away from my daughter so much due to my work as an explorer, I never got the chance to properly be there for her, and I've been wanting to "Fix" that rift between us since. We've done so many things together, and we've been taking the time to connect well together." Swag Step added after she took a sip from her cup, "I feel you, girl; us mothers always want to connect with our child. McJagger, remember that day we went fishing"? McJagger chuckled, saying, "How could I forget, mom? You fell out of the boat, trying to grab your lure away from that trout that swallowed it, thinking it was a worm, and dad had to end up using his bare hands to catch it." Chase Bass then commented, "Lesson goes: don't go catching a fish with your bare hands unless you got gloves on, or else you'll get a wicked tail slap to the face." The little Funk family all shared a chuckle as Chase Bass wrapped an arm around his son, saying, "Though we did have fun, right, son"? McJagger snickered while saying, "Well, if the fish imprint on your face that you had after that trout hit you, and the lilypad flower that floated onto my back after mom came out of the water showed anything, we definitely did have a lot of fun." Chase Bass and McJagger both shared a hug together as Laguna saw this and bit her lip, trying to hide the small surge of jealousy she felt seeing her boyfriend and his father together. Twilight took notice of this and felt bad for her daughter as she quickly interrupted by saying, "Kelpcake, would you mind throwing these out," and gave her the empty paper plates with the used plastic utensils and napkins on top of them. Laguna quickly perked up, nodding while saying, "Sure, mom," and accepted the plates, walking over to the nearby trash bin to throw them out. Meanwhile, Swag Step seemed to notice Twilight's concerned look and asked, "Hey, you feeling ok"? Twilight sighed, saying, "Yeah. It's just...I know my kelpcake doesn't like to show it, but deep down, she sometimes can't help but feel a little bit jealous when she sees other Trolls spending time with their fathers, 'cause it reminds her of...you know." The Funk Trolls understood well what Twilight meant, as Chase Bass commented, "I see what you mean. The poor thing," while McJagger added, "Yeah, considering what Laguna's been through, I can see why she would have some animosity about seeing others with their dads."
Twilight sighed while she stated, "It's hard to help my daughter when she feels like this. I try to do my best to help my kelpcake not feel as blue and spend as much time as I can with her so we can strengthen the family bond between us, but there are some things even I can't do for her. She doesn't want anything to do with her father, but...deep down...she can't help but feel sad because she wants to have that father-daughter bond that children have with their dads. And that's something I wish I could provide her, but I can't, unfortunately." Swag Step patted Twilight's hand, saying, "Cheer up, Twilight, it's ok; you're doing your best for your daughter, and even if you can't give her everything to help her, you're at least giving her what's important: love, and nurturing. That's the most any mother can give to their child no matter what, and it's the best thing we can do for them. At least LAguna has one parent she knows will be right by her side, as well as having multiple friends who'll support her all the way." Chase Bass took this into consideration before he got an idea, saying, "You know, maybe there's something we can do to help." Twilight, curious about what the male Funk Troll had in mind, asked, "You do, mate? How"? Chase answered, "Well, McJagger and I are going out tomorrow on a father-son trip to Downtown Funkytown; what if Laguna joins us on our trip"? Twilight gasped happily, asking, "You'd let her come with ya"? Chase Bass nodded, saying, "Of course, why not? It'd be a great chance to spend some time with my future daughter-in-law," as McJagger blushed, shouting while feeling embarrassed, "Dad," before Chase Bass chuckled and added, "Plus, perhaps the time we spend together might be able to form a sort of father-daughter bond between us. Even if I'm not her father, the least i can do is try to be father figure of some sort for her, and maybe it might make her feel better." Twilight thought about it, saying, "Well, it's fine by me, mates, but let's wait for Laguna to come back so you can ask her and see if she's up for it." Swag Step then said, "And while the boys, and your daughter, have fun on their trip, you and I can have a girl's day out and spend some time together." Twilight squealed excitedly, saying, "I've hadn't had a girl's day out in a long time! It'd be a lot of fun"! Soon, Laguna came back, saying, "I'm back. Did I miss anything"? Twilight replied, "Nothing much, kelpcake. Say, Laguna, Chase Bass was just talking about a trip he and McJagger are going on tomorrow, and he wanted to know if you would be interested in coming with them." Laguna thought about it, saying, "Really, a trip? Where to exactly"? McJagger got up, saying, "Downtown Funkytown, the coolest and hippest place in all of Vibe City! I could tell you all about it, but if you come with us tomorrow, you can be surprised at what you see about the place. And if that doesn't convince you, maybe this will," before he gave her a kiss on the cheek. Laguna blushed, smiling as she placed her hand on where McJagger kissed her, saying, "Well, A kiss like that is super sweet," before smirking, saying, "But it's not that easy to convince me to go somewhere new I'm not aware of." McJagger smiled and said, "I know, I just wanted to give you a kiss because you're such a sweetheart. Also, it'd allow me to get your attention, so I can do this," before he threw off his jacket and was seen wearing a black tuxedo suit with a red bowtie, white cuffs at the front sleeves, and then reached into his sleeve and pulled out a black top hat with a red stripe across the middle. He flipped the rim, made it pop out, and placed the top hat on his head, before music started to play in the background as he sang in front of his parents, Twilight, and his girlfriend, who watched her boyfriend perform while blushing. While McJagger sang, he danced while a background of what looked like a bustling city was behind him.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~It's Party Time by Joe Jonas~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
McJagger: There's a place you gotta be! A thousand leagues here in Vibe City! And it's waiting over there for you and me! It's got shops, restaurants, and rides! Glamour from the out and inside! Get ready for the party's on tonight!
Before he continued to sing, he grabbed Laguna by the hand, brought her up to her feet and towards him, and spun her around. When Laguna stopped spinning, she was seen wearing a fancy magenta dress with golden gems around the waistband, a golden bracelet on her free wrist, and she was wearing a gold headband with diamonds on them, silver earrings on her head fins, and had a purse hanging around her right shoulder. McJagger held hands with Laguna as the two danced while he sang to her.
So pack up! Cash in! And let the memories begin! Toss the dice! Once or twice! Here, it's fun times for the win!
So-oh, relax and just unwind! Leave your worries all behind! Get ready for the party's on tonight!
During the instrumental, while Laguna stood by the adults, they all McJagger danced in front of a background involving a large fountain that was spouting beautiful water shapes. McJagger danced perfectly with the beat, often moving from four feet to two, and then back to four feet, as he spun and swung with ease. Then, as the music was close to reaching a fast-paced drumming interval, Chase Bass stepped forward, saying, "Son, let your old man show you how to swing it," and he began to dance with great professionalism, tap dancing to the beat of the fast-paced drumming while mixing in some perfect swings and spins before his son joined in, the two dancing in unison before the two started to sing together, as Twilight and Swag Step both stood up and clapped along excitedly, while Laguna was watching the boys, feeling both intrigued by the musical number, but also feeling her jealousy returning from seeing her boyfriend's close-knit parent-child relationship with his dad.
Chase Bass and McJagger: Oh, small-town blues will melt away! All of the big Trolls come to play! Guaranteed you'll have the best time of your life! Grab your tux and pick your dress! Embrace our culture and its funkiness! Get ready 'cause the party's on tonight!
Chase Bass: So pack up (McJagger: Pack up!)! Cash in (McJagger: Cash in!)! And let the (McJagger: Memories begin!) memories begin!
McJagger: Toss the dice (Chase Bass: Toss the dice!)! Once or twice (Chase Bass: Once or twice!)! Here, it's (Chase Bass: Fun times for the win!) fun times for the win!
Chase Bass and McJagger: So-oh, relax and just unwind! Leave your worries all behind! So, get ready! It's party time!
McJagger: It's party time, y'all!
When the song was finished, McJagger was wearing his regular jacket again, Laguna was no longer wearing the dress and jewelry she had on (other than her own), and the background was gone too. Meanwhile, the girls were applauding the boys, as McJagger and Chase Bass bowed while McJagger said, "So, anyway, yeah, that's what the whole place is about. So, what do you say, boo? You want to come with us"? Laguna thought about it before answering, "Well, it does seem like fun. Ok, sure, I'll be more than happy to come with you on your trip. Should I bring or wear anything fancy"? Chae Bass replied, "No need to bring anything, other than yourself, a smile, and a desire for a great time," while McJagger added, "And as for clothing, you don't need to wear anything; it's the fanciest spot in the ship, but we embrace it through the exploration of what it has to offer rather than just simply dressing up to make it give off the fancy vibe. Besides, you look beautiful enough as you are." Laguna could feel her face heating up again as she blushed from McJagger's compliment before Chase Bass added, "We'll come get you at around 8:30 am to head there. "That sound ok to you"? Laguna nodded, saying, "Sure, I can be ready by that time." Twilight then said, "I bet you three are gonna have a lot of fun"! McJagger added, "Oh yeah, it's gonna be a blast hanging out in Downtown Funkytown! As the song said, it's gonna be the best time of our lives"! The next day, Laguna got up a little extra early so she could get ready and eat breakfast before heading out with her boyfriend and his father. She quickly slipped on her bracelet and necklace and ran a brush through her hair before fixing herself something to eat. As she ate, Laguna couldn't help but feel in thought about the idea of spending the day with her boyfriend and his father. Her heart jumped in excitement about getting to hang out with her boyfriend, and at the same time, she was curious about getting to know Chase Bass a little more. He seemed like a nice man and a very caring father to his son. After Laguna had finished eating breakfast, she knocked on her mother's bedroom door to let Twilight know that she was leaving, before she swam out of the house and headed up to the surface. She emerged from the water and hopped onto the landed, where, on cue, McJagger and Chase Bass were approaching her, as McJagger smiled, saying, "Hey boo, morning"! Laguna smiled, giving her boyfriend a kiss on her cheek, before she faced Chase Bass and said, "Thank you again for letting me join you two on your trip." Chase Bass smiled and said while placing his hand on her shoulder, "You're welcome, Laguna, we're always more than happy to let a fellow friend accompany us. Plus, seeing how close you and McJagger have grown to be, I figured you two would want to spend some time together, and the trip seemed like a great chance to let that happen." McJagger and Laguns both blushed together as McJagger then said, "Well, you know I'm always down for spending time with the special Troll I love," as Laguna added, "Note: Me too."
Chase Bass then said, "So, if we're all ready, then one bubble taxi coming right up and we can head to Downtown Funkytown." On cue, a bubble soon came and picked up the three as they were carried inside the Vibe City spaceship and floated around till they soon saw what looked like a huge city approaching. The city looked similar to the main square of Vibe City, but it looked a lot brighter, busier, and had dozens of bright signs, tall buildings, and so many attractions to see at the square mile. Laguna and McJagger were both in complete awe at so many of the amazing sights, with McJagger saying, "Wow! It gets even more amazing every time you come to visit this place"! Laguna took notes at a lot of the bright lights and signs around, the beautiful buildings were shops, restaurants, and other fun attractions, including what looked like a huge amusement park, which got both Trolls excited, especially LAguna, who had never been to an amusement park before. Chase Bass saw how excited Laguna looked and made a mental note for them to visit that place while they were here. As they got closer, the bubble taxi landed on the floor and popped so they could walk around freely. McJagger and Laguna took a moment to stretch their legs while Chase Bass instructed, "Now, remember: this is one of the busiest places in Vibe City, and large crowds of Trolls tend to flock here, so try to stick close to me so you don't get lost." The sight of the large crowds around them made Laguna feel a bit nervous, but seeing her boyfriend standing next to her, offering a warm reassuring smile, made her feel a bit better, as the trio began to walk down the busy streets. Downtown Funkytown was a sight to behold, as Laguna commented, "Wow, it's really festive here"! McJagger commented, "Downtown Funkytown is known as the "City of Dreams" and where you can get the best funnel cakes ever." Chase Bass then said, "Why don't we start out with seeing some of the shops and attractions around us"? McJagger nodded, saying, "I know which one we can start with first." They continued to walk the streets until they arrived at what looked like an old fortune-telling booth, where a yellow female Funk Troll with wavy purple hair, pink stripes, light yellow arms, and legs, who wore a red star-patterned bandanna on her head, as she said, "Come on, come all, come and see what your future holds." The trio approached the booth as Chase Bass smiled, saying, "Hey, Alma. How's the business"? The now identified Funk Troll replied, "Busy, as usual. Hi, McJagger, care to see how your future looks? And how about your friend too"? McJagger answered, "Sure. Oh, Alma, this is Laguna Tidepool. She's, well, the love of my life." Alma smiled, saying, "Awww, that's so precious. Guess that prediction I told you when you were young, about how soon, the angel of your dreams would enter your life, came true." McJagger blushed and answered, "Yep, and I'm so happy the angel that entered my life is the sweetest Techno Troll I've ever met."
LAguna blushed, replying, "Awwww, but if anything, you're the sweetheart, McJagger." Alma then said, "Well, for two strong lovebirds as yourselves, I'll give you both a fortune-telling session, on the house." McJagger and Laguna both were grateful for the generous gesture, as Alma first held McJagger's hands, saying, "Ah, yes, I can see...the future is coming, and for you, kind soul, it says...that soon, you and your girlfriend, and all of your close friends, will be experiencing something new. What is it, I cannot say, but I can say that it appears to be quite exciting." McJagger was curious, saying, "Wow, I wonder what we're going to be doing." Then, Alma held Laguna's hands, and said, "And as for you, I too can see your future...and it shows me...oh, this is quite surprising. You will someday be facing the source of a residing pain and it'll lead to a dramatic encounter." This made Laguna both confused and worried, as she asked, "Huh? W-What would I be facing"? Alam replied, "I can't determine what, but all I can say is that you'll grow from that experience, in more ways than one." Laguna couldn't help but ponder on what it is that she might be experiencing in the future, and in all honesty, the idea of it scared her a lot too. Chase Bass, seeing this, gently reassured her, stating, "Hey, don't worry, Laguna; Alma's predictions don't always come true." Alma chuckled, stating, "Well, sometimes, I might be wrong every now and then, but you can't always argue against the laws of nature. But hey, I run this little booth for fun, so i wouldn't think about it too much." Hearing that made Laguna feel a bit better as the trio thanked Alma before heading down the street to see more of Downtown Funkytown. While walking the streets, there was a street show going on, where a few Funk Trolls that were dressed as jesters and clowns, wearing white face paint with red circles painted on their cheeks, were performing for the busy crowds. One of them was riding a unicycle, juggling some colorful balls while the other three were doing some gymnastics and acrobatics on the ground. One of the ground acrobatics pulled out some bowling pins and juggled them before he tossed them up in the air and balanced them on his nose. The other two decided to do some funny tricks, pretending like they were gonna sneeze, but when they did "sneeze," they emitted beautiful flowers, impressing the crowd. Some of the flowers showered over the trio, s McJagger said, "Wow, I love the street shows! They're always so much fun to watch"! Chase Bass nodded in agreement before he turned his head to see if Laguna was enjoying it too, but saw that Laguna still looked a bit worried about what the fortune teller said. He wanted to help cheer her up, as he noticed a funnel cake stand nearby, and asked McJagger, "Son, would you mind go getting a funnel cake for us to share"? McJagger saw the funnel cake stand and smiled, saying, "On it, dad! Be right back," and ran towards the stand.
Meanwhile, Laguna looked up at Chase, who then said, "Why don't we sit and talk"? Both Trolls sat down on the sidewalk as Chase then asked, "You feeling ok"? Laguna tried to put on a brave face, saying, "Yeah," but somehow couldn't really keep it in, saying, "No. I-I guess I'm still thinking about what Alma said. I know you said to not let it get to me, but...I guess I can't help but still have that sense of worry in me. Plus, there's also something I think might relate to this prediction that might...make it come true, and the idea...scares me." Chase Bass could tell what Laguna was thinking as he said, "Hey, it's gonna be ok. Whether the prediction she says comes true or not, you're gonna be alright. Your father isn't gonna come hurt you again, and if he tries, we are here for you." Laguna gasped in shock, asking, "How did you know that was what I was thinking"? Chase Bass smiled, saying, "I always have my way of knowing how a Troll is feeling and what's on their mind. And after what my son has told me about what you went through, it is understandable that you'd be thinking of him." Laguna nodded in agreement before she felt Chase bring her into a hug, commenting, "It's ok, you don't have to keep this tough front in front of me. My wife and I want to help you just as much as our son does. We're here for both you and your mom." Laguna looked up at Chase in surprise before she smiled, saying, "Thank you, Mr. Bass." Both Trolls stood back up and continued to watch the street show as McJagger soon came back, saying while carrying a large funnel cake, "I'm back, you guys, and check it out! I was lucky customer 50, and got a free large funnel cake"! Both Chase Bass and Laguna were surprised by the size of the funnel cake before they broke into laughter, as Chase Bass said, "We're gonna need bigger plates." Later on, as the trio was walking while they were finishing eating the funnel cake together, they went to the amusement park, as McJagger commented, "Laguna, welcome to Neon-World, Downtown Funkytown's best amusement park"! Laguna commented, "Wow, it looks like so much fun! I've never been to an amusement park before"! Chase Bass chuckled, saying, "Well, be prepared for quite a fun experience, Laguna. Amusement parks are quite enjoyable." The trio entered the park and looked around at all of the things that were around them, including the fun rides, the game booths, and other fun amusement park attractions. Laguna seemed so in awe by everything, it was almost impossible to decide on what to do first, and she had a lot of choices. Excited, she commented, "Note: I don't know what we should do first! The games, rides, oh my! What should we do, you two"? McJagger and Chase Bass chuckled from seeing Laguna's excited reaction when Chase Bass replied, "Well since this is your first time visiting, how about we take you on your first rollercoaster ride"? Laguna squealed in joy before asking, "What's a rollercoaster"?
A few minutes later, McJagger pointed up to something while saying, "That's a rollercoaster, boo." Laguna looked up in shock as she saw the huge mechanical ride that was called the "The Fast and the Funkiness" where a large group of Funk Trolls was riding the cart that took them on the rollercoaster track. Chase Bass spoke up, saying, "I've been on that ride more times than I remember. I remember the day I first brought my son onto this rollercoaster." McJagger added, "Yeah, it was so much fun! The loop de loop, the turns, it's so exhilarating"! Laguna then commented, "It sure looks fast. Is it safe"? McJagger replied, "It's perfectly safe, boo, nothing to worry about." McJagger looked up at the rollercoaster and then at Laguna and his dad, and then, he thought of a way for his dad and Laguna to bond, saying, "Say, dad, when we go on the coaster, why don't you and Laguna sit right up front"? Chase Bass turned his head, asking his son, "You sure, son? I know you usually like to sit upfront with me when we go on the coaster." McJagger nodded, saying, "Of course, I'm perfectly fine with it dad. Besides, this is Laguna's first time on a rollercoaster, so she should get to experience it in the best spot." Laguna, curious, asked, "Sitting upfront is the best spot," as Chase Bass nodded, adding, "Oh yes, it's where you feel the most action and excitement of riding a rollercoaster." With that, the trio got on line and waited for their turn to soon enter the rollercoaster cart. As it came and the previous group climbed out, the trio entered the cart, with McJagger sitting behind his girlfriend and his father, saying, "It's almost time"! They all lowered the handlebars so they could be fastened in, as Laguna held onto her handlebars tightly, feeling a bit nervous, but Chase Bass reassured her, saying, "It'll be alright, every Troll feels nervous the first time they go on a rollercoaster, but once you go through the first drop, it ends up being a lot of fun." Laguna took a deep breath in and out, ready to ride, as the rollercoaster cart started to roll forward and scale a tall hill. Everyone riding the coaster was anticipating the drop, as it kept climbing higher and higher. Soon, it started to climb over and was set to drop and the minute the rollercoaster cart started to go down the hill, rolling down the drop, everyone on the coaster screamed, as tradition in roller-coaster riding. Laguna screamed loudly at the top of her lungs as they went down, feeling scared at first, but as they made it halfway down the drop, her scream of fright became a scream of excitement.
McJagger, Chase Bass, and Laguna were having a lot of fun on the coaster, hanging on tight as they passed through the turns and bends, and even screamed excitedly when they went around the loop-de-loop. Once the ride was over, they got off as Chase Bass saw the surprised/stunned look on Laguna's face, asking, "LAguna, are you...ok"? Laguna slowly replied, "That...was," before exclaiming excitedly, "AWESOME! haha, that rollercoaster was so exhilarating! The rush of the wind blowing at my face, the fast pace speed, and the anticipation of each twist and turn! So much fun"! Chase Bass smiled, saying, "Happy to hear that you enjoyed it," as McJagger added, "and the fun;s just getting started"! The trio continued to explore the rest of the amusement park, taking part in all of the attractions that were around them. The first stop was at a game booth, with a booth runner, saying, "Stp right up, step right up! Knock down these bottles and win a plushie of your choice"! Laguna looked up and saw a plush clownfish, saying, "Awwww, that is so cute! I wish I could win that"! Chase Bass saw this, smiling, before he approached the booth runner, saying, "One throw please, and I'm aiming to win that plush clownfish." The booth runner nodded and gave Chase Bass a ball to throw, as the red funk Troll readied his shot, and aimed, giving a mighty toss. The throw knocked down all of the bottles, as the booth runner shouted, "Winner, winner, we got a winner, congratulations, sir! You win," and gave him the plush clownfish, which he then gave to Laguna, saying, "Here you, Laguna." LAguna accepted the gift happily, saying, "Thank you so much, Mr. Bass," as McJagger happily commented, "Wow, dad, that was really nice of you. I haven't seen Laguna this happy in a while." Chase Bass replied, "Well, i just wanted to do something nice for her. She's gonna make a great daughter-in-law once you two tie the knot," as McJagger blushed in embarrassment, saying while covering his face, "Dad"! Chase Bass chuckled and added, "Sorry, son, I couldn't help it. Maybe this could help make up for it," and gave McJagger a green plush iguana, making him smile and say, "I love iguanas! Thanks, dad"! After the game booth, the trio continued to have a lot of fun together at the park. They entered a haunted house and got scared all silly-like by a Funk Troll that was dressed like a chainsaw maniac. Afterward, they went on the flying swings and got to swing around on the seats, McJagger hanging on for dear life as he felt a little nervous being on the ride. When that was over, the trio went to another game booth, where Laguna tried a ring toss game, having to toss a ring onto a post, and ended up winning glowing bracelets that she share with McJagger and Chase Bass.
McJagger then introduced Laguna to the House of Mirrors, where the two had a fun time seeing the different shapes of their reflections in the set of different mirrors, thinking they looked so funny. While they did that, chase Bass bought them heart-shaped cotton candy and gave it to McJagger and Laguna for them to share together, who both shared a sweet romantic kiss together. Overall, they had a very very fun time at the amusement park, and after a while, they decided to walk down the streets of Downtown Funkytown again, peeking into some of the other shops that they haven't seen yet, including an antique bookstore, where Chase Bass bought them both a few books for them to read and add to their book collections, and a thrift shop, where they all got to try on some of the different Funk-themed clothing, and had a mini fashion show, impressing the crowd of customers that were shopping at the thrift shop as well. Later on, the trio was sitting on a bench, holding some bags that had the stuff they got inside, as McJagger commented, "This day has so far been so much fun! I almost don't want it to end"! Laguna added, "Me either! I love it here, and this day has been quite a blast"! Chase Bass smiled, saying, "I'm very happy you both have been having so much fun. When I was little, my father took me to this place every month, and my favorite memory was of us sitting on this very bench together and embracing the day we've had together. The best part about it is that we got to share something special together as a family." Laguna, confused, raised an eyebrow while asking, "You...think of me of family"? Chase Bass nodded, saying, "Of course, Laguna. And you know what? Even if you and my son weren't dating, you'd still be considered family, because any friend of my son is already part of the family." Laguna couldn't help but feel emotionally touched as she smiled and then said, without even thinking, "Wow, that's so sweet. Thanks...dad." When Laguna realized what she had uttered, she quickly covered her mouth as Chase Bass and McJagger both were surprised. Laguna didn't know how to respond, feeling way too embarrassed to even cope with what she did, as she stood up and said, "I...I'm sorry...I-," before tailgating it out of the scene, running off in shock. Chase Bass and McJagger quickly stood up, with McJagger shouting, "Laguna, wait! Come back," while Chase Bass added, "Laguna, come back," snd they ran after her, trying to follow the runaway Techno Troll.
Meanwhile, Laguna kept running as fast as she could, trying to get away as far as she could when she stopped and saw that she was somehow lost in Downtown Funkytown and had absolutely no idea where she was. And not only that, she was within a huge crowd of Trolls and didn't know anyone, which added onto her anxiety. Laguna, in panic, looked left and right, unsure of where she was or wanted to go. Not only that, seeing all the people around her, Laguna couldn't help but feel her heart beating fast, making her say, "Oh no...it's happening again," as she felt her chest tighten and her breathing accelerated. LAguna panicked, knowing what was going on: she was experiencing another panic attack, and it's left her feeling really scared. Laguna could do nothing but clutch her chest and drop to her knees, trying to calm down and get her panic attack to stop, but it seemed hopeless. Laguna whimpered in fear, uttering, "Someone...please...help," and shut her eyes, waiting for help to arrive. Laguna's breathing kept sounding jagged and sharp, and it seemed hopeless until Laguna felt someone approach her. It turned out to be Chase Bass, who found Laguna in the state she was in. McJagger helped Laguna sit upright while Chase Bass held her hands and said, "Easy, easy, we're here for you. Just breathe in and out slowly, we're here for you." Laguna saw McJagger's father and McJagger looking at her and slowly attempted to take slow deep breaths to calm down. She struggled to gain her breath, her breathing overpowered by her panic attack and her state of fear, but McJagger gently kissed her on the cheek, saying, "Take your time, boo, in and out. In and out." Laguna didn't seem to be getting better, and that was when McJagger brought Laguna into a hug and let Laguna slowly whimper into his chest, and slowly, she soon began to calm down and her jagged breathing became slowly deep breaths. Soon, Laguna was finally calm and her panic attack had ended, as she looked up at her boyfriend, hugging him gratefully while also saying repeatedly, "I'm so sorry," while emitting tears from her eyes. MCJagger slowly rubbed Laguna's back while trying to soothe her, saying, "Boo, it's ok, it's ok. There's nothing to worry about."
Chase Bass approached Laguna, commenting, "Yeah, everything's gonna be just fine, Laguna." Laguna whimpered, saying while trying to rid the tears from her eyes, "No, everything's not fine! I just called you dad, and I feel like a complete embarrassment! I-I didn't mean to call you that, it was completely unintentional! It's just..." she sniffled before adding, "All my life, I've just wanted to have that special father-daughter bond with my real father and...he never even bothered to pay attention to me or care about me, and after he assaulted me, I felt like...it never was gonna happen. I can never forgive him for what he did and...I don't want anything to do with my father, but...part of me still longs for...wanting that father-daughter bond that..I never got to experience as a kid. I know my mom has been trying really hard to make up for not only her time of not being there, but tries extra hard to make up for my dad as well...even though...we can't ever forgive him. And...well...I guess that today...the time I got to spend with you and your father, McJagger, seeing your father being so caring and the way he's looked out for you...the sight of it was so inspiring...that when Chase Bass did some nice things for me...I just felt so...touched...it just felt like...for once...I got to bond with him...like a daughter would with their father...and...it just unintentionally slipped out. I'm so sorry, Mr. Bass, I really didn't mean to let it slip out." Chase Bass reassured Laguna, saying, "Hey, you got nothing to feel sorry. If anything, I feel kind of honored." Laguna, confused, asked, "Huh? Y-you do"? Chase Bass nodded, saying, "Yeah. See, when my wife and I first met you, and we learned about what happened to you, I was a bit worried myself that you and I wouldn't be able to forge a friendship, or some sort of bond together because I was worried you wouldn't trust me fully considering what you went through. In a way I wanted to be like the father that you've always wanted, to help you feel better and be able to forge that connection you've longed for. I know that yes, we aren't biologically family yet, since it's still gonna be a while before you and my son decide to marry," which made McJagger and Laguna blush, before Chase Bass added, "But like I said, anyone who is friends with my son is already part of the family. And while we aren't related in blood yet, we are related in friendship, because if you're my son's friend, then you're my friend too. And I am more than happy to be the father figure for you. The same way my son cares about you, we do too, as well as I, so even if I'm not your blood family father, I can be the father figure you want that'll always be there for you if you ever need anything." Laguna couldn't help but feel emotionally moved, as she said, "You...really would do that...for me"?
Chase Bass nodded, saying, "Of course, Laguna." McJagger helped his girlfriend up, as Laguna wiped the tears from her eyes and smiled before the trio became enveloped in a group hug. McJagger then asked, "Feeling better, boo," as Laguna nodded, saying, "Yea, I do feel better. Thanks," as McJagger kissed his girlfriend on the cheek. Suddenly, the trio heard music playing and turned around, spotting a huge marching band that was playing Funk music, as the trio walked to the sidewalk and listened to the music. As the band strolled through the streets, a lot of the Funk Trolls that were watching danced along with the music. McJagger, hearing the music, got an idea, saying, "Dad, Laguna, let's dance"! He ended up bringing both his father and his girlfriend to the street, and they ended up dancing along with the band that played, having a lot of fun together, like a neon light show was shown occurring up in the ceiling, making the scenery a lot more colorful, especially when the lights made an image of a red heart while in golden lights, it spelled out the word "Family" across the heart.
