The Case of The Missing Hug Watch

It was a peaceful evening over Trollstopia, and in every building, it seemed like nothing or no one was up and around. However, inside the Ancient Museum, a lone shadow was sneaking around, lurking in the shadows, trying to find something in particular. This mysterious figure jumped in and out of the shadows as it crept towards one artifact in particular. Once it reached its destination, it took off the glass covering what looked to be the first hug watch in troll history. It was basically a sundial with a happy face emoji on top and arranged beads as the band for a troll's wrist. The figure smiled and reached out to grab it. The next morning, it seemed like nothing was wrong until Poppy, Holly, and Aggie heard what sounded like a scream. In concern, Aggie asked, "What as that," as Poppy answered, "I don't know, but we better go check it out." All three trolls ran as fast as they could to the Ancient Museum as they were greeted by the museum manager, who said while distraught, "Poppy! Thank goodness you're here! It's terrible! The museum's been robbed"!

Everyone gasped in unison as Holly asked, "What do ya mean thay museum's been robbed"?! The museum motioned for the girls to follow him, saying, "I'll show you. Follow me," as they all walked inside the museum. As they walked through the hallway, he explained, "See, every night, before closing time, I make sure that every artifact or museum display is here and accounted for. But this morning, when I came to open up for the day, I came across the horrific sight that one of our most popular attractions was stolen." Aggie then asked in concern, "It isn't what I think it is, is it"? The museum manager sadly nodded, stating, "I'm afraid it is. Whoever broke in last night took...the first hug watch," as he pointed to a shattered crime scene. The pedestal where it rested was still standing, but the glass covering that the figure removed was now shattered into a gazillion pieces. Aside from that, there did not seem to be any footprints or other visible leads that would help determine who the culprit was. Poppy said in disbelief, "I can't believe someone would steal one of our most valuable artifacts. That first hug time watch was what set the principles of its creation and how it's become such a popular daily event." Holly added, "Seemed like whoevuurr done took it must've wanted ta make an awful easy profit by a-sellin' it." Aggie then exclaimed in a panic, "We have to find it or fond the troll who took it! But...there aren't any footprints to track, and I don't see any other clues. So, what are we going to do"?

Holly snapped her fingers as an idea came into her head, shouting, "Hot dang! Ay know just who ken help us"! Holly then cupped her fingers and let out a shrill whistle while Poppy, Aggie, and the museum manager looked at her in confusion. Suddenly, the four trolls heard rapid galloping as Buckaroo entered the museum, tipping her hat while saying, "Ya called, ladies"? Poppy and Aggie looked relieved as Holly came up to Buckaroo, saying, "Buckaroo, we have ayy crahm scene ayn' ayy mystery we nee y'all's help in solving. Ya up faw the job"? Buckaroo chuckled as she answered, "Ov course ay'm up faw the job, Ms. Holly. Aftuurr all, ay'm Buckaroo Ringer, Lonesome Flat's finest detective." The museum manager came up to her, saying in relief, 'Ooh! A real-life detective! Oh, please help us, Ms. Ringer. Someone has stolen the first hug watch artifact, and there seem to be no leads on where they went or who had taken it."

Buckaroo came towards the crime scene and looked closely at the floor and around the display area before saying, "Naw wawries, Mr. Ay'll track down that there thief ayn' bring bak the stolen hug watch, ayn' as awful long as ay'm around, ya may address me as Buckaroo, suurr. *cracks knuckles and fingers* Now, stand back ever'one. Ay need total focus ayn' concentration ta look faw forensic evidence because Mama's gonna catch herself ayy thief"! Buckaroo pulled out her magnifying glass and prepared to start looking for clues.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Ay'm Gonna Catch Me Ayy Thief by Peck W.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(mysterious western intro)
Buckaroo: Ay'm gonna get to the bottom of this. Ay'm gonna catch me ayy thief! Ay'm gonna get to the bottom of this. That's my firm belief! Whoever you are, ay'm right behind ya! Bet your hooves! Ay'm gonna find ya! Ay'm gonna get to the bottom of this. Ay'm gonna catch me ayy thief!
The ancient hug watch! Such ayy pretty sight. Ay'm gonna find it! Ay won't stop looking, Day aw naheet!
Oh, ay'm gonna get to the bottom of this and put an end to ya grief. Ay'm gonna get to the bottom of this. Ay'm gonna catch me ayy thief!
If ya think that you can run from me, well, start to second-guess. 'Cause once ay get ya under the light, one way or another, ya gonna confess!
Ay'm gonna get to the bottom of this and bring back some relief. Ay'm gonna get to the bottom of this. That's my firm belief! Ay'll find out what, where, when, why, how, and who. You can out on Detective Buckaroo. Oh, ay'm gonna get to the bottom of this. Ay'm gonna catch me ayy thief!
Ay won't stop searching till that hug watch is found. And if ya try to stop me, then put 'em up! 'Cause, this gerl won't back down!
Oh, ay'm gonna get to the bottom of this. That's my firm belief! Ay'm gonna get to the bottom of this. Ay'm gonna catch me ayy thief!
Buckaroo started to look at the floor around her pedestal with a magnifying glass, seeing if there were any small but crucial pieces of evidence. She found a small piece of what looked like a lavender scale by the pedestal base as she used a pair of tweezers to pick it up and place it in a plastic bag, sealing it shut. Buckaroo then began to examine the floor leading up to the pedestal, noticing barely visible but faint footprints, and they were the size of an average troll's footprints. She took a whiff of the faint footprints before writing something down in a notepad. Breaking the silence, Poppy asked, "So, did you find anything"? Whel, accawding ta thay ...uhh footprints, it seems like our thief could eithuurr be ayy youngin with big feet, aw an average-sized troll. And judging by how fresh these line marks are, it appears they struck at around 3 am this morning. There's something else here that's curiously intriguing. See the broken glass pieces," as she used her tweezers to safely pick up a piece, saying, "The edges clearly show that there this here glass a-coverin' was kicked ta the floaw, eithuurr by accident aw on purpose, causing it ta shattuurr upon impact.
Ayn' the faint path ov these footprints show that there whahl they were sneaking in slowly, upon a-breakin' the glass, they rushed out in ayy panic. So, whoevuurr is our thief is also ayy awful huge klutz. We faand thay ...err klutz, we faand our thief." This made everyone happy as Aggie said, "So, we just need to question all the trolls and see if any of them took the hug watch. Easy." Buckaroo then held her hand up, saying, "Slow y'all's roll, Aggie. Just because ay done said our culprit has awful average-sized footprints does nahwt mean that they have awful average-sized feet. Ayy detective always has ta considuurr other options. Such as, maybe ayy awful big troll a-usin' foot-themed stilts aw something like that there. Or, maybe they were floating in the auurr ayn' done tried ta deceive us by a-usin' ayy footprint maker. Ya, see how there are other theories that there tie into this here mystery? As ayy detective, ya have ta considuurr all possibilities in awduurr ta get closuurr ta thay truth. Come here so ay can show ya trolls what ay mean."
Poppy, Aggie, Holly, and the museum manager gathered around Buckaroo and looked through the magnifying glass as Buckaroo stated, "See how the footprint is made? It looks like ayy perfect footprint. In fact, it's too perfect, which means that whahl these footprints were made, they weren't "made" if y'all get what ay'm a-sayin'." Everyone seemed to understand, as Poppy commented, "Wow, Buckaroo. You're terrific at identifying clues. I don't think any of us would have noticed those footprints the way you have." Buckaroo tipped her hat while saying, "Much appreciated, Ms. Poppy. Just a-doin' my job. Now, back ta business. These footprints lead ta outside, so whoevuurr done took the hug watch done made ayy run faw it upon the glass a-coverin' a-breakin'." Buckaroo started to walk outside as Aggie followed her, with the museum manager staying behind and Poppy saying, "Good luck on your mission, ladies." Once outside, the duo walked through town, trying to see if the possible culprit was out in the open.
Aggie asked, "So, Buckaroo, aside from the footprints and the glass, what else did you find"? Buckaroo pulled out the bag with a scale as she said, "Ay done found this here fish scale, ayy pretty lavenduurr color scale it is." Aggie looked at it as she stated, "But that's impossible! Fish don't walk on land. And even if they did, they wouldn't have feet like that." Darn good deduction, Aggie. Therefawe, we ken say this here ain't ayy fish scale, this here is the scale av ayy Techno troll's tail." Aggie gasped as she said, "But why would a Techno Troll want to steal a hug watch? They don't even have hug time, I think." Buckaroo tipped her hat as she said, "Sometimes, thieves ken have thay ...uhh wildest ayn' craziest reasons faw committing ayy crime, ayn' whatevuurr reason our criminal have done won't matter because he, aw she, will be met with swift justice"!
Then, Aggie felt a vision coming through as it played what looked like a light green male Techno Troll, around Aggie's age, wearing a black sweatshirt and a hood that covered most of his face, except his dark blue, icy eyes. He was hanging upside down from his tail by what looked like one of Buckaroo's front braids and seemed to be covered in what looked like black ink. He angrily glared at her while saying, "Fine! I did it to frame the pesky book eel of a troll so she could be thrown in prison"! When Aggie returned to normal, Buckaroo, who saw her dazed expression, Aggie, y'all ok? y'all look like ya has just done saw ayy ghost a-flyin' by." Aggie shook her head before saying, "I'm alright, Buckaroo. Just trying to figure out who did it is all." Buckaroo seemed to accept her answer as they went to Techno Lagoon to question some of the Techno Trolls about the crime.
Underwater at Techno Lagoon, Buckaroo and Aggie asked Synth about it as he said, "Well, I can't think of anyone who would want to steak the ancient hug watch. Techno Trolls don't even use them so that it wouldn't be of any use to us." Buckaroo then asked, "Whel, do ya know any trolls that there have lavenduurr purple scales like this here"? As she showed the scale to Synth, he replied, "Hm...going by the color, the only trolls I could think of with a color like that are Laguna and her mom." Aggie gasped as she shouted, "But Laguna and her mom would never want to steal artifacts out of the museum! Most of those artifacts were brought in by Twilight, anyway! So why would she want to take them out"? Buckaroo wrote this down as she said, "Y'all are right, Aggie. Twilaheet has done contributed ayy lot ov artifacts faw the museum, ayn' ay remember huurr a-tellin' me that there she would protect them ayn' done made sure they stay in the museum as long as she lived. However, it's nahwt ta say Laguna wouldn't wan-ta take them out ta study." Aggie argued, "But Laguna would never want to steal! She's too innocent! Besides, I've seen her at the museum, and she never even gives any signals towards stealing any of the artifacts. She usually writes information about them in her notepad."
Buckaroo then said, "Eithuurr way, she is still ayy possible suspect, ayn' unless proven otherwise, ay still need-ta bring huurr in faw questioning." Aggie felt like she was at a crossroad because, on the one hand, Laguna was getting blamed for something she didn't do. On the other hand, she has yet to tell Buckaroo that she's psychic and has visions. What could she do? Suddenly, she saw what looked like a black figure, slowly approach Laguna's house. Aggie swam silently to follow it as she watched it approach her bedroom window and slip inside, sliding a box under her bed before sneaking out unnoticed, silently cackling. Aggie shouted, "Hey! what are you doing"? The figure saw her and tried to swim away, with Aggie on its tail. He then pulled out what looked like a sprinkle gun and shot off out smoky squid ink, which made Aggie stop and cover her face, coughing while the figure ran away. As the smoke settled, Aggie's colorful appearance was now replaced by black since she was covered in squid ink. She grimaced and said, "Oh, sugar! He got away,"! As she swam back to Laguna's house, she saw Buckaroo already approaching as the detective noticed Aggie and asked in confusion, "Hopping horny toads! Done y'all startle ayy squid aw something"? Aggie removed some of the squid ink from her face as she said, "Or something. Buckaroo, I need to tell you something." However, Buckaroo was not listening as she was already knocking on the door, shouting, "Anyone home? Open up! It's detective Buckaroo ayn' ay need-ta ask y'all some questions"!
No one answered as Aggie said, "Well, looks like no one's home. Guess we'll have to come back later. Now, can I please talk to you, Buckaroo"? However, Buckaroo still did not listen as she then walked over and found the open window, saying, "Hm. Ay wonduurr if she has done left the winder open eithuurr by accident aw on purpose. A-lookin' at thay ...err angle, it seems like this here were intentional. Eithuurr she wanted some fresh auurr. aw ayy gateway ta escaping without a-goin' out the front." She then swam inside through the window while Aggie, reluctantly, followed her. Inside was a mess of books, maps, old writings, notepads, and pictures of legendary places, such as the Lost Game Room. Buckaroo looked around with her magnifying glass, saying, "Look around, Aggie. There could be potensheeal clues that ken lead us ta our suspect." Aggie pretended to pick stuff up and examine it, and once Buckaroo's back was turned, Aggie bent down and looked under Laguna's bed, grabbing the box and stuffing it in her bag before Buckaroo could see it. After a little more searching, Buckaroo sighed before saying, "Naw sign av it in here. Guess we ken cross Laguna Tidepool off our suspect list. We still haven't done found thay ...uhh hug watch yet, but we won't give up. As detectives, we must pursue the case, naw matter how awfully long it takes! Come, Aggie! Time a-wastin'"! She and Aggie swam out of the bedroom and returned to dry land, they started to head back into town to ask the townsfolk. However, along the way, Aggie tripped and fell onto the ground, the box slipping out and tumbling over to Buckaroo, who picked it up, asking, "What's this here thing"?
Before Aggie could protest, Buckaroo opened it and gasped at what was inside. Laying still in one piece, not a scratch, was the ancient hug watch! She looked at Aggie, asking her, "Aggie, y'all had the hug watch this whole tahm"? Aggie shook her head, but before she could state her case, Buckaroo tipped her hat, saying in a serious tone of voice, "Stealing is ayy right awful serious crime, Aggie. Ayn' y'all av all trolls should know that there! Ayn' here ay was about ta blame poaw Laguna faw something y'all did"! Aggie then shouted, "Buckaroo, let me explain! It wasn't me who stole it! I only had it because I came across it while we were looking for the real culprit"! Buckaroo crossed her arms and rolled her eyes, saying sarcastically, "Yeah, right! It done came frawum y'all's bag, Aggie! Unless y'all have anothuurr viable explanashun as ta why y'all did had it in the first place, y'all'll be answering ta Delta faw y'all's crimes"! Aggie then decided to go for broke as she shouted, "It's because I saw the troll who actually swam in her bedroom earlier and planted the box there"! Buckaroo stopped her angry rants for a minute to hear what Aggie said as she sighed while saying, "While you were questioning Synth, I saw the light green Techno Troll in a black sweatshirt swim into Laguna's bedroom with the box and planted it under her bed so that if you found it, you would think Laguna was guilty. I did not want her to be blamed for something she didn't do, so I grabbed the box and placed it in my bag. I planned to give it to you when we got back to the museum, but apparently, my clumsiness beat me to it. Our actual suspect did this because he wanted Laguna to be framed and sent to prison"!
Buckaroo calmed down a little bit as she then asked while raising an eyebrow, "How ken ya possibly know that"? Aggie then took a deep breath and decided that now, more than ever, she had to tell Buckaroo, as she said, "This may not sound believable, but...I saw it happen. Because I had a vision. I'm psychic, Buckaroo, and these visions I have are about things bound to happen in the future. I had a dazed expression earlier because I had a vision of us apprehending our actual criminal, who confessed the same reason. I know you might not believe me, and I can understand, but I knew that you had to know the truth if we were ever going to get close to solving this mystery. So, I'm sorry...Buckaroo." Aggie hung her head down and looked at her feet while Buckaroo looked on in surprise, disbelief, and hurt. She slowly took off her hat and walked towards Aggie, placing it on her head while saying, "Aggie, y'all don't need-ta apologize faw anything. If anyone's done got ta say sawry, it's me. Ay should've let ya explain why ya had thay ...err box instead ov a-thinkin' ya stowwl it. Ay hurt y'all. Ayn' ay ken't fawgive myself faw that there. Some detective ay am, huh"? Buckaroo sighed and sat down on a rock, looking pretty sad as Aggie said, "What? Buckaroo, you're a great detective! You only made a mistake, and it's alright. you were only doing your job, and while I am still a little shaken up, I forgive you."
Aggie took off Buckaroo's hat and placed it back on Buckaroo's head as the Country Troll said, "How ken ya just fawgive me like that there? Ay literally almost done made ya cry because ay was a-takin' my job way too seriously ayn' blamed ya faw something ya didn't do, ayn' ay'd jump off ayy cliff if ay evuurr did made ya cry faw something awful bad like that there. Ay don't even deserve ta call myself ayy detective faw my actions, today." buckaroo covered her eyes with her left arm as hot tears fell from her face. Aggie sat next to Buckaroo and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, saying, "Because it's not worth holding a grudge against someone who made an honest mistake. I know you usually take your job very seriously, but it's what makes you a great detective. Your passion for pursuing the answers to a mystery and justice is unparallel to other trolls. And that's something I like about you as a friend. You're hardworking and loyal to everything you do. You're persistent and always persevere when the going gets tough. You're honest, and most of all, you're strong-willed. You don't let anything get by you, even when they try to sneak past you. So you see, Buckaroo, yes, you did almost make me cry, and I do still feel a little hurt for your accusation, but I am more than happy to overlook that if you still want to be friends."
Buckaroo lowered her arm and smiled as she removed her tears while saying, "Ay'd like that there right much, partner. " She and Aggie shared a small hug as Buckaroo then said as they separated, "Oh, ayn' just so y'all know, those there little psychic visions y'all was a-talkin' about, ay believe y'all. Ayn' ay'm more than awful happy ta keep it ayy secret frawum ever'one. Mark my words, nahwt one word about them will escape these lips," as she mimiced a closed zipper across her mouth. Aggie smiled, saying, "Thanks, Buckaroo. Now, we still have a culprit to catch, but he's sneaky. He has a squid ink gun, which is how I got covered in ink earlier when you saw me." Buckaroo thought about it for a minute before saying, "Ay think ay have an idea on how we ken capture this here sneaky little sea weasel."
After about 15 minutes of gathering supplies and building a trap, everything was set as Aggie placed the box on top of a pedestal and then rushed behind a bush, where Buckaroo was waiting, saying, "Let's catch ourselves ayy thief." They waited in silence before the figure from earlier came sneaking around, spotting the box. He crept up to it and was about to grab it when he felt his tail get caught by something, and he was pulled up and hanging upside-down. He dropped his squid ink gun, which Aggie caught while Buckaroo came out while holding her left braid like a rope, saying, "Gotcha, ya little rascal! Y'all's thiever' days are hereby abolished"! The troll struggled before saying (Voiced by Seth McFarlane), "Aw, crabs! Why you little sick land-lovers gotta ruin everything"?! Aggie held up the squid ink gun while saying, "Tell us! Who are you and why did you steal the ancient hug watch in the first place"?! The Techno troll rolled his eyes and sighed, saying, "The name's Typhoon! What's it to you, cotton candy?! And for my reason, I ain't telling you two anything"! Buckaroo then smiled at Aggie, asking her, "Aggie, how about ayy little payback faw earliuurr"?
Aggie nodded and said, "This is for ruining my dress and for almost having Laguna and me arrested," as she fired off the ink gun, covering Typhoon in ink. After he looked like he had enough, Typhoon glared at Aggie and shouted, "Fine! I did it to frame the pesky book eel of a troll so she could be thrown in prison! She's nothing but a big-brained numbskull who can't even defend herself! She thinks facts and research will solve everything, and it makes me sick! And the fact that she gets more love out of it tears me to the core! I knew that I had to bring her down, so I took her greatest passion and planned to turn it into her downfall. At first, I used troll-feet stilts so my footprints would not be recognized if they were ever discovered. Then, I planted the scale and took the hug watch. Originally, I was not expecting my tail to hit the glass covering and shatter, but I thought it would play out as extra evidence against her since she's a purple, ugly, scaredy-cat! And I would have gotten away with it if not fr you two meddling trolls"!
Buckaroo then pulled out what looked like a tape recorder and pressed stop as she said, "Thank ya faw that there loud confession, Typhoon. It'll be right useful faw when you done played in jail on thay ...err charges ov stealing, destrucshun ov private property, ayn' accusing anothuurr troll ov thay crahm. Anything you say can and will be used against you in sentencing." She then let out a whistle as a Country Troll came in, pulling that looked like a carriage with steel, indestructible bars. Buckaroo placed Typhoon inside, locked it with a special key, then shouted, "Take him away"! The Country Troll started pulling Typhoon away to the Lonesome Flats prison as the Techno Troll shouted, "You won't get away with this! I'll be back, and you can bet on it"! Once he was gone, Buckaroo and Aggie high five and high-hoofed each other as Aggie said, "We did it! We solved the mystery"! Buckaroo tossed her hat up and caught it, saying while putting it back on, "Yeehaw! We did, Aggie. Ay couldn't have done it without y'all's help, so, thanks ayy lot, sugar. Now, let's get this here ancient hug watch back where it belongs: thay Ancient Museum"!
Back at the museum, the ancient hug watch was back where it belonged" on its pedestal and covered with a new glass shield. The museum manager said, "Thank you, Aggie and Buckaroo, for finding the ancient hug watch and bringing it back home safely." Poppy commented, "You two make quite a team," as Holly added, "Y'all two look closuurr than two peas in ayy pod"! Buckaroo chuckled as she said, "Just a-doin' my job, aw should ay say, just a-doin' our job"? Aggie looked at Buckaroo confusingly as the detective pulled out a rainbow cowgirl hat that had a golden, sparkly A on it, similar to Buckaroo's horseshoe, as she placed the hat on Aggie's head, asking, "How'd ya like ta be my partner in the detective agency, Aggie? Ya seem like you up faw the job"." Aggie smiled and nodded, saying, "Yes! I'd love to be your assistant"! They both high-hoofed one another when Biggie ran inside the museum, shouting, "Poppy! Thank goodness you're here! Mr. Dinkles has gone missing, and he isn't in his usual hiding places"! Everyone gasped as Buckaroo smiled and looked at Aggie, asking, "Ya up faw solving anothuurr mystery, partner"? Aggie tipped her hat, the same way Buckaroo would, saying, "I'm more than ready, partner"! She hopped onto Buckaroo, who galloped and followed Biggie, as the duo was off to solve another mystery in Trollstopia.
