Sleepwalking Queen

At Rock Hollow, Val was hosting her first sleepover, with Melody's help, of course. When they were first coming up with ideas on what to do, they both agreed on 5 main components that would make everyone happy, especially since this was an ambassador/delegate slumber party. The main focus was to find an activity that best suited each category for each ambassador/delegate. Luckily, both cousins were able to come up with 5 perfect activities: a pillow fight (country), a tea party (classical), watching an action movie with a little horror (rock), a dance battle (techno), and an art competition (pop). They were originally going to find a funk activity, but Low-Note Jones, nor Rhythm and Blues, could make it tonight. Either way, it was still going to be a fun party. Val was setting up the TV for the movie while Melody was filling bowls with pretzels, jellybeans, and cheese balls and placing the bowls in front of a tray with a tall pyramid of smores. She looked over to Val, saying, "This is going to be an awesome slumber party! I still can't believe you volunteered to host it." Val chuckled while she angled the antennae just right, saying, "Well, normally, I'm not one for slumber parties, but hey, what's the harm in trying one? Besides, this is part of my process of becoming a better troll: trying new things, even if I dislike it afterward." Melody playfully rolled her eyes as she said, "I'm pretty sure you're going to enjoy hosting it as much as everyone's going to enjoy having fun. Let's see...we got snacks...we got the TV set...we got a movie picked out. What else do we need"? Val then asked, "Do you have the box of art supplies for our art competition"? Melody nodded, saying, "It's under my bed in our room. I'll go grab it," as she rushed to grab the box of art supplies. Once she brought it out and placed it on the table with the bowls of snacks, she wiped her forehead while saying, "Phew. It's a lot of work, but it'll be worth it when everyone's having fun." Val nodded, saying, "Yep, Melly. This is going to be the best slumber party ever! Yow," as she grabbed a guitar from out of nowhere and smashed it while Melody chuckled at her older cousin's antics. Then, Val grabbed a list and looked over it while saying, "So, to review, first, we'll do the dance battle, since Synth is bringing his DJ stand to play music. Then, we'll do the art competition, still need to pick a theme for that. Then, we'll have the tea party for Dante, then we transcend into the pillow fight, and finally, we'll watch the movie right before bed."

As Melody readjusted the placement of the bowls, she asked, "You didn't pick a movie that was really scary or had a lot of smashing and action, did you? I'm only asking because I don't Dante to be too scared to go to sleep. You know how he gets when things...rile him up." Val picked up the videocassette and showed it to Melody, saying, "Already got it covered. We're watching A Troll's Beating Heart. It's this inspirational movie based on a real-life troll who wanted to venture out of his comfort zone and play music he felt comfortable with most." Melody seemed intrigued as she said in surprise, 'Is that the one with Leaf Trollshan?! She's my favorite troll actress! I've been dying to see that! Where on earth did you get it"? Val chuckled while answering, "Demo lent it to me. It's perfect for everyone to see without anyone getting scared or uncomfortable." Melody then asked, "Are we missing anything else"? Val looked over her list before saying, "We got plenty of pillows, flashlights, batteries, the guest list has been finalized, we have a first-aid kit at the ready, hmm...I don't think we need anything else." Melody then snapped her fingers while saying, "Oh! We almost forgot to pick out which jammies we'll be wearing. Come on." Val shook her head and smiled while following Melody into their bedroom. They sifted through the closet, looking for the perfect pajamas to wear tonight, as Val pulled out her choice from the closet. It was a short sleeve button shirt that was black and had red life-like heart drawings on it. Over each heart was a silver electric guitar. Aside from the shirt, she also had black sweatpants with it. Val held it up high, saying, "Found my outfit for tonight. How about you, Melly"? Melody came out, holding her choice high while saying, "View it and chew on it, Val." Her pajamas set was a red nightgown with the words Hard Rock/Pop for life in big gold letters, and it was decorated in black guitars. Instead of sweatpants, she had lavender loose-fitting pajama pants with an assortment of magenta hearts and stars decorating the pants. Placing their outfits on their beds, Val commented, "I think we are all set," before noticing something under her bed.

She bent down to pick it up, and under the light, it revealed to be a stuffed Glitter Gator toy. It was red, and it shimmered brightly, and it seemed to have a black bandanna tied on its back left leg. Val chuckled as she told Melody, "Kiddo. look who I found." Melody turned and blushed in embarrassment as she shouted, "Ah! Where did you find that"?! She went to grab it, but Val held it up high, just out of her little cousin's reach, as she says, "It was resting under my bed, probably after being in the light for too long." Thinking that she suffered enough, she gave Melody the Glitter Gator while saying, "In all seriousness though, I think it while others may find it weird, I think it's amiable that you still keep Grenda, even after you outgrew playing with her." Melody placed Grenda under her pillow while saying, "Of course I would still keep it. It holds many childhood memories I had with my dad before he died, and every time I hug it, it helps bring those memories back. Just so we are aware, I don't sleep with it like I used to. I'm not a little kid anymore. I keep it by my bed for safekeeping. I don't know what I'd do if I lost it." As Melody covered the toy alligator with her pillow, Val said, "Ok, if you're done trying to bury your alligator, can we get changed? The party's going to start soon." Melody nodded as she said, "Yeah, let's get changed."

As night began to fall, Val and Melody were dressed in their pajamas and waiting for their guests to arrive. Melody was looking out the window, keeping watch, as Val was doing some final checks over everything to make sure they were not missing anything. Suddenly, Melody perked up, shouting, "They're coming, Val! They're here"! Val and Melody started to head to the door to greet their guests. For their ambassador/delegate slumber party, they invited Poppy (obvious choice/pop tribe leader/ambassador) and her delegate Smidge, who was excited about tonight's party. From the Techo tribe, they invited Synth and his delegate/fellow an"troll"apologist Laguna Tidepool. From the Classical tribe, they invited ambassador Dante Crescendo and his delegate/student Minuet Sonata. From the Country tribe, they invited Holly Darling and her delegate Gust Tumbleweed. All of their guests were already dressed in their pajamas and ready to party. Val cleared her throat before saying, "Welcome one and all to Val Thundershock and Melody Song's Slumber Party. Come on in and make yourselves comfortable." As everyone started to walk inside, Poppy came up to Val and commented, "Wow, Val! you and Melody did a terrific job setting up for tonight's slumber party." Melody puffed her chest out with pride, saying, "We put our heart and soul into getting everything ready. I just hope everyone has a fun time." As they went to join up with the rest of the guests, everyone was admiring how everything was set up, especially the elegant snack table, with the proud smores pyramid being displayed. Gust was gazing at the marvelous/sweet work of art as she said, "Hoo-doggy! That's a mighty fine structure made out of smores you got there."

Melody came over, saying, "Thank you, Gust. I modeled this structure out of the pyramids our troll ancestors made during the reign of the Trollzec Empire." Smidge was looking through the art supplies as she says, "You got literally everything you need to do multiple art projects here." Val commented, "That's for something later, after our first event." She then let out a shrill whistle to gain everyone's attention as she said, "Alright. Melody and I have planned a list of great, fun, and inclusive activities for us to do tonight for our slumber bash. Melly, if you please." She handed Melody the clipboard as the pop/rock troll said, "Alright, first, we're going to kick things off with a fun dance battle! Then, we're keeping the competitive spirit alive with a little art competition. Afterward, we will dine on the smores with elegance during a tea party, then kick it up a notch with a wild pillow fight. And to finish things off, we will be watching a movie on our brand new TV. So, who's ready to have some fun tonight"? Everyone cheered in agreement as Synth had his turntables set up, saying, "I'm ready to rave the roof off! Let's get this dance battle started"! He started to play a song as everyone started to make a circle and dance to the best of their ability, trying to outdance one another.

Melody: It's nighttime in the neighborhood (All: And no one is around!)! To tell us to go right to bed or (All: Not to make a sound!)!

Val: 'Cause down here in Rock Hollow, we can (All: Act all wild and crazy!)! So get on up, dance-along, and (All: Get a little Swayze!)!

Poppy and Holly: Tonight's a night with no rules or restrictions! No hounding us about our jobs or writing jurisdictions!

Dante and Smidge: So jam in your jammies, jump around, and let's get loud (Poppy, Synth, and Val: Loud!) (Gust and Holly: Loud!) (Melody, Laguna, Minuet: Loud!)!

All: Let's get loud!

'Cause, it's our slumber bash! 'Cause, it's our slumber bash! So, come and be a part of it 'cause it's our slumber bash! We might stay up until the dawn, or sooner, we may crash. But it don't matter! You know why? 'Cause, it's our slumber bash!

As they sang, they all had a blast going through the fun list of activities planned. They danced their hearts out on the floor, they all created fun art projects, they dined like royalty during the tea party, they had an all-out pillow fight, and everyone enjoyed sitting on the couch and watching the movie together.

Minuet: We have our fun during the day and (All: Spend time with our friends!). But once night falls, we come unglued and (All: Party till the end!)!

Synth: And if you seem confused, then let us (All: Show you what to do-ooh!) If you down with it and want to join, jump up, and say "Woo-hoo" (All: Woo-hoo!)!

Gust and Poppy: We'll keep on dancing till the sun starts rising! And let our evening be fun and surprising!

Laguna, Melody, Val: So, let your hair down, set your wild side loose, and let's get loud (Holly and Smidge: Loud!) (Gust and Dante: Loud!) (Poppy, Synth, Minuet: Loud!)!

All: Let's get loud!

Hours later, everyone was in Val and Melody's bedroom, curled up in their sleeping bags and preparing to turn in for the night. Dante stretched his arms out while saying, "I must say this slumber party has been a huge success. Cudos to you both," as the group applauded Val and Melody, who nodded in appreciation as Val said, "Thanks, guys. but I couldn't have done it without Melly, who was a huge asset in making this night as successful as it was." Melody giggled before saying, "Only because your ideas helped make it a lot of fun, and we can definitely all agree that we had a lot of fun." Smidge commented, "Yeah! Those smores were the best thing I've ever eaten! MMMMM MMMMM! You've got to share the recipe with me in the morning"! Holly added, "Ayn' that there pillow faheet was more exciting than ayy bull riding contest"! Laguna even commented while putting her glasses on Melody's nightstand, "And that movie was so beautiful, especially the part where the troll was finally accepted in her community for playing a different music rather than their desired type." Poppy then said, "We all had a lot of fun, but now, I think it's time we got some sleep." Synth yawned as he said, "Yep. All that action has tuckered me out." Gust added, "Yep, I reckon we all hit the hay so that we can be well-rested for tomorrow." With that, Val shut off the light as everyone settled in and fell asleep. When everyone seemed to have fallen asleep, Melody quietly grabbed her stuffed alligator Grenda from under her pillow and quickly hugged it before closing her eyes, allowing herself to fall into slumber.

About an hour later, Melody woke up and was unable to fall back asleep, so she carefully got up and went to get a warm glass of milk. As she tiptoed around the sleeping bags, she accidentally dropped Grenda on Poppy's sleeping bag, but she did not notice this, even after she left the room. Walking to the fridge, she pulled out a milk carton and began to pour some milk into a red cup when she heard not only snoring but someone walking behind her. She placed the cup and carton down and turned to find Poppywalking...while asleep? And top of that, she was holding onto Grenda as Melody quickly ran over to Poppy, whispering, "Poppy? What are you doing up? And where did you get that alligator"? All she got as a response was snoring as Melody was confused, saying to herself, "Ok, so I have a sleepwalking Poppy who now has Grenda in her hands. Not the weirdest scenario I've been in, but..." Then, she saw Poppy begin to walk away again as she quickly used her hair to prevent Poppy from going any further asset struggled while whispering, "Where are you going? Stay here"! Luckily, the force of the pulling got Poppy to sit down, still asleep surprisingly. Melody walked over to the sitting/sleeping Poppy, saying, "Ok. so now, I have a sitting, sleeping Poppy who isn't sleepwalking anymore, but sleep sitting, and she's still holding Grenda. Not what I expected, but this can work." She tried to reach out to grab her stuffed alligator. Still, somehow, Poppy swatted her hand away, all while remaining asleep. Melody tried it again, but each time, her hand would get swatted away.

As Poppy started to get up, Melody sighed before whispering, "If you are doing this as a joke, it isn't funny, Poppy. Now, give me the alligator"! She tried to reach out for it again. This time, Poppy kicked her hard in the cupcakes as she held the kicked spot tenderly while squeaking in pain, "Sweet...guitar...picks," before falling over as Poppy continued to sleepwalk away from Melody, muttering something incoherently. Holly, who was woken up by the sound of someone getting kicked, came over, whispering, "What's all the ruckus about"? When she saw Melody in pain and Poppy sleepwalking away, she galloped as fast as she could and used her hair to catch Poppy before checking up on Melody, asking, "Y'all a-doin' ok, sugar"? She gave Melody a hand in helping her back up as Melody replied, "Well, I'm tired, and I just got kicked in the cupcakes. And on top of that, Poppy has something of mine I'm trying to get back that she somehow won't give up. So...no." While Poppy was snoring away in Holly's hair, the country ambassador asked, "Wonduurr why Poppy's sleep a-walkin'? Ayn' what does she have that there belongs ta ya, Mel"? Before Melody could answer that question, Synth came over, asking in a quiet voice, "What's going on," as Dante and Val were following behind them. Melody asked, "What are you three doing up"? Dante answered, "Classical trolls are light sleepers, except for Minuet, who is a very heavy sleep, so, once I heard what sounded like commotion, I wanted to see if everyone was ok." Synth added, "I heard someone grunt in pain, so I came to see if anyone was hurt." Val added, "And I came to ask why are you three up? We should be asleep." Before anyone could answer, Poppy, who was still asleep, broke free and surprisingly kicked Holly in the cupcakes, much to the other ambassadors' surprise. Holly weakly whispered, "Great...country...giblets," as she fell over in pain while Poppy began to sleepwalk away from them again.

Melody swung her hair and caught Poppy again, but this time, Poppy seemed to continue walking and was trying to break free of the restraints. Melody was struggling as she out a strained whisper, saying, "Give me a hand here, will ya"?! Synth, Dante, Val, and a recovering Holly all grabbed hold of Melody's extended hair and tried to pull the sleepwalking pop queen back towards them. Suddenly, Poppy seemed to grab the other end and swung the other four ambassadors and Melody around like a tornado before tossing them outside, freeing Poppy on her restraints. Outside, one by one, they all landed on one another, yelping in pain with each collision as Poppy continued to sleepwalk and move past them, heading in a different direction. Despite her murmurs being unintelligible, Synth was able to identify two semi-clear words: Branch and bunker. As Poppy left, the four ambassadors and Melody got up, brushing the dust off of them as Val said, "Man, whatever's gotten into Popsqueak has given her almost supernatural strength." Dante added, "It's like she's become a completely different troll"! Melody then spoke up, saying, "Forget about that! Poppy's sleepwalking into the forest, has no sense of direction, and worst of all, she has Grenda"! Except for Val, the other ambassadors looked at Melody confused as Holly asked, "Uh, who's Grenda"? Melody pinched her eyes as Val said, "We'll explain later, but for now, we have to find Poppy before she gets hurt." Dante then stated in concern, "But we don't even know which way she went, nor where she is going." Synth then snapped his fingers while saying, "Wait a minute. I overheard Poppy muttering something. Something about a branch and a bunker"?

Val then knew what Synth was talking about as she said, "Of course! She meant to say Branch and was referencing his bunker." Holly found this adorable as she said, "Aw! Poppy's dreaming about Branch! Ay wonduurr if she has a crush on the fella." Dante sighed as he said, "Oh, yes. True love in one of its primitive form." Melody then sarcastically remarked, "Oh yes. Nothing says true love than dreaming about your crush while sneaking out past midnight, sleepwalking, and kicking random trolls in the cupcakes." Val then placed her hands up while saying, "Melly's sarcasm aside, and your affection on the love aside, we now know where Poppy will most likely be. So, let's get there before she does so we can stop her." They nodded and ran to try and get to Branch's bunker before Poppy could. Deep in the forest, the group waited behind a bush just outside of Branch's bunker, awaiting Poppy's arrival. Melody was looking through a pair of binoculars as Dante asked, "See anything yet"? Melody noticed that Poppy was a short distance away from entering the area near the bunker while sleepwalking. Val then whispered, "Alright. We have to find a way to get Poppy's dream to end so either she stops sleepwalking or she at least won't disturb Branch." Dante then asked, "Wouldn't it be easier if we try to wake her up"? Everyone gasped as Holly stated, "Darn good gracious, naw! Ya, nevuurr, evuurr try ta wake up ayy troll who is sleepwalking! It ken have disastrous health consequences"! Val then spoke up, saying, "Then, we're going to need someone to stand in as Branch and "play along" with her little dream long enough until it hopefully comes to an end." Melody nodded, saying, "Great plan, Val. Synth, you do it."

Synth became shocked as he responded with, "What?! Why me?! I ain't a pop troll"! Melody answered, "You know Branch a little better than we do, and I think you can try and mimic his voice. Please, do this for us, and Grenda"! Dante and Holly shot her weird looks as she asked, "Again, who's Grenda"? Melody facepalmed while saying, "Don't want to talk about it now"! As Poppy started to inch closer, Val pushed Synth into her path while whispering, "Go on! Quickly"! Synth was nerovus but decided to give it a try as he took a deep breath and said in his best Branch-like voice, "Hey, Poppy." The group winced and secretly prayed that it would work as surprisingly, sleepwalking Poppy muttered an unintelligible "Hi Branch," right back. Everyone sighed a small breath of relief as Synth, still in his Branch impression, said, "What brings you here, Poppy...to my bunker...at this time of hour"? Poppy muttered something no one could understand, only making out "Give you a gift," as Poppy pressed the toy alligator into his chest, Synth nervously accepting it and saying, "Thank you, Poppy." Melody bit her lip nervously as she watched Poppy mutter what sounded like a tired "You're welcome" before reaching out to hug him. Synth looked at her confusingly before looking back at the ambassadors, who motioned him to hug Poppy. He tossed the toy alligator into the bush, which was caught by Melody, as he slowly approached Poppy and hugged her, despite the pop troll still being asleep. Suddenly, he heard her mutter, "Ooh, you smell great tonight. Is that seafoam"? The ambassadors and Melody froze in fear as Synth internally freaked out as he responded in his nervous, Branch-like voice, "Yes...it's a new cologne I made from...sea shells...in my bunker...where I live. " Holly, Dante, and Val all facepalmed as Melody pinched her eyes and hissed slightly. However, that didn't seem to affect the sleepwalking Poppy as she muttered in her sleep, "It's a nice scent on you," before saying more unintelligible nonsense.

Then, Poppy sleepily muttered, "Hey..co-come here a second. I...I-I need to tell you something." Synth slowly leaned in as Poppy then whispered in his ear, "I love you." Everyone in the bush was stunned as Melody says, "I can't believe it. She's dreaming of confessing her love to Branch. and is...weirdly acting it out with Synth." Holly added, "Man, are we lucky that Branch ain't here ta see this here "dream" play out." Then, Poppy did something that silenced everyone and shook them to the core. Poppy grabbed Synth's head with both of her hands...and kissed him on the lips. Everyone's jaws dropped to the floor as Synth's eyes widened, and he became too stunned to speak. Poppy then, still asleep, muttered, "Branch..*unintelligible nonsense* good kisser. See you tomorrow, Branchypoo," as she began to sleepwalk all the way back to Rock Hollow. Meanwhile, the rest of the ambassadors gathered around Synth, who did not move from where he was standing since Poppy kissed him as Val commented, "So...that happened." Dante then commented, "Do not worry, Synth. It was merely a dream, and Poppy thought you were Branch. It does not change anything." Synth still did not respond as Melody then said, 'So...I think we can all agree with this when I say...we're never telling Branch about this, right"? Everyone nodded and said, "Agreed," as Synth could only slowly nod his head. Holly sighed while saying, "Alraheet. Ay'll carry him back," as she picked up the still frozen Synth and together, all headed back to Rock Hollow. Inside Val and Melody's bedroom, they found Poppy asleep in her sleeping bag once again as they all sighed a quiet breath of relief and snuck back into their beds and tried to sleep off the eventful night.

The next morning, Poppy was the first to wake up as she said, "Morning, guys. Up and at 'em! Another day is upon us"! While the delegates easily woke up feeling refreshed and vitalized, the ambassadors and Melody struggled to wake up, with Val covering her head with her pillow, saying, "Five more minutes." Dante stretched and attempted to rid his eyes from exhaustion, as Minuet commented, "Dante, you look awful. Did you not sleep well last night"? Dante could only groggily respond, "You could say it like that." Holly groaned and placed a hand on her forehead while Gust said, "Man, Ms. Holly. You look more worn out than that time you ran that Country Corral marathon." Holly could only groan as a response as Gust looked at her confusingly, wondering what could've made her so tired. Laguna saw Synth rocking back and forth in his sleeping bag as she asked, "Synth, are you alright"? He could only softly reply, "I will be...after a couple of hours," which made the female Techno troll watch him in concern. Melody groaned and said, "My head feels like a ton of rocks is crashing around inside." She saw by her side that Grenda was with her as she quickly hid it under her pillow before anyone noticed it. Poppy seemed to be really happy as she commented, "After an awesome slumber party, we should all go out for breakfast. Pablo's Pancake house! On me," as Poppy and the delegates followed her out of the bedroom excitedly. The remaining ambassadors groaned and tried to get their footing as Melody commented, "Next slumber party, we are inviting Branch so we can avoid THAT happening ever again." Everyone nodded and said, "Agreed," in unison as they stumbled after Poppy's group in hopes of catching up. Meanwhile, under Melody's pillow, Grenda the toy alligator peaked her head out and snickered, saying silently, "They may try to forget about that night, but I sure won't," as she winked and went back to hiding under the pillow again.
