Turmoil in the Family
I do not own Trolls or Trolls World Tour or Trolls Band Together or any of the characters in the franchise or the songs! And I especially don't own any of the songs I use from the movie or any other song I pick out in general! I also don't own the characters of Trollstopia! The only thing I do own are my O.C.s Melody Song, McJagger, Buckaroo, Stereo, and Twilight Tidepool; I.M. Rally owns her O.C. Aggie Galido, and Cheah owns his O.C. Finn Okazaki Tidepool. Now, strap in, ladies and gentlemen, and let's get on with the show!
Over on Rhonda, the armadillo bus was on the run again, moving its feet as it made its way up to where the base of Mount Rageous was. It saw the upcoming mountains and began to make its speedy climb up, following the path that'd lead it up to its main city and where, hopefully, Velvet and Veneer were.
Inside Rhonda, the group was now discussing on their next course of action for how they were gonna rescue Floyd.
"Alright," Branch stated, explaining to his brothers, "Now that we're all together, we gotta come up with a way to find Floyd and get him out before Velvet and Veneer's Rage Dome show."
"They probably have him somewhere in one of their dressing rooms by the building," Poppy theorized, saying, "So, we get to the Rage Dome, we go look in the dressing rooms, and we're sure to find him"!
John Dory, who was sitting on the floor, stood up, saying while Clay and Bruce, who were sitting on the couch, listened, "And then, we unleahs the Perfect Family Harmony, and we get him free again"!
"Though now, how are we exactly gonna hit the Perfect Family Harmony," Clay asked, saying, "We couldn't even do it last time we tried because SOMEONE messed things up for us."
"That's why we gotta practice again," John Dory commented, adding on, "And this time, not just regular singing this time; we practice in full band mode," while pointing to one of the old BroZone posters on Branch's clue boards, the one with all 5 band members wearing puffy jackets.
"Do we really need all that just to practice singing the Perfect Family Harmony," Bruce, a little annoyed by John Dory's suggestion, asked.
"Yes," John Dory replied, explaining, "Think about it; if we can do the Perfect Family Harmony in band get-up, then the power of it might be strong enough to help shatter the diamond Floyd is trapped in."
Clay, Bruce, and Branch all looked at one another before Clay commented, "As long as I don't have to wear those stupid Funderdrwaers again, i guess that it might be a good idea."
"I'll do it, but don't expect anything to be fitting too well on me," Bruce stated.
Branch, however, felt uncomfortable with the idea of having to sport a diaper again just to get into "costume" for them to practice the Perfect Family Harmony. Not only because one, that idea was stupid, but two, it'd just make him feel like a baby all over again, and three, he'd look like a real embarrassment in front of Poppy.
However, he also knew that they had to be able to try and land the harmony if they were gonna be able to save Floyd, even if it meant he had to embarrass himself to accomplish this.
So, he mentally whispered to himself, "Just do this for Floyd, do this for Floyd," and then, he told his brothers, "Alright, I'm in."
"Yes," John dory cheered before he then asked Poppy, "How about it, Queen Poppy? Wanna practice with us"?
"Wait, you want ME to practice with you guys," Poppy asked, her eyes lighting up in excitement.
"Why not? You'd make a good Floyd substitute till we can rescue the real one. Plus, you got some pipes on ya, Poppyseed, and they're sure to sound great with our singing," John Dory replied.
Poppy let out an excited squeal before she instantly went to the back of Rhonda, pulling something out of one of the boxes that was sitting in the back, and came back to the boys, wearing Floyd's old red puffy jacket, saying, "Ready"!
Branch couldn't help but blush a bit, thinking Poppy looked cute in Floyd's jacket.
This sight also caught Clay's attention, with Clay saying in a playful manner, "Ooh, Branchy likes what he sees"!
Branch felt a little embarrassed, turning her head while saying, "Knock it off, Clay."
John Dory chuckled, thinking the sight was humorous, before saying, "Alright, guys; time to deck out the ol' band gear and get to harmonizing! Let's bro"!
~~~~~~Perfect (Practice Version) by Justine Timberlake, Eric Andre, Daveed Diggs, Kid Cudi, Anna Kendrick~~~~~~~
As the music on Rhonda's dashboard radio started to play, the four members of BroZone started getting into proper gear for a practice run, trying to nail the Perfect Family Harmony.
Starting things off, John Dory had everyone on the bus wearing puffy jackets, like on the night of their first concert on tour. John Dory's was teal green, Clay's was yellow, and Bruce's, which he had to squeeze on so it could fit over his new figure, was purple, while the one Poppy was wearing was orange. True, it wasn't the red one like Floyd's was, but it went well with Poppy's eye color and, on the plus side, helped her be able to fit in with the other BroZone members.
As Branch grabbed his old pair of glasses, which were now smaller but still covered his eyes pretty well, Clay swapped his regular exercise wristbands with a pair that was white and silvery glittered, which went well with the now white and silvery glittered sweater romper he wore.
Clay then used two cans of white spray-on hair dye that made the tips of his hair yellow; while he wasn't as fond of the color, he figured that it'd help get the BroZone feel, before he placed on a yellow pair of shades over his eyes, with Bruce putting on a matching pair of purple shades over his eyes.
To top it off, Branch had changed out of his vest and shorts and was now not only shirtless, but he was wearing a small, yet still fitting, diaper. The sight of Branch being shirtless was enough to get Poppy into a blushing fest, but seeing Branch shirtless and in a diaper?! Forget pink; her face became as reddish-pink as her hair was, steam expelling from her ears, and her eyes showed heart-shaped pupils as she let out an excited squeal before falling over and fainting in awe.
Branch, John Dory, Clay, Bruce: Da-da, da-da-da! Da-da-da, da-da-da! Da-da, da-da-da (Branch: Brozone!)! Da-da-da, da-da-da!
Branch quickly picked Poppy up, got her back onto her feet, and woke her up, just in time for her to join the boys. Together, they started to dance in sync, following the choreography that, you can guess, John Dory planned.
All: Well, there she goes!
Bruce took center stage first, doing a spin before giving a smolder kissy-face expression towards the imaginary crowd as he sang his line.
Bruce: On the floor, let's do this, no more talkin' (Branch, John Dory, Clay: No more talkin'!), huh-uh!
All: Did anybody notice?
Poppy then took center stage to sing her solo, moving slowly yet showing emotion as she sang, similar to how Floyd would when he would dance during his solos.
Poppy: The energy just shifted when we dropped in? Ooh, let it drop in (Branch, John Dory, Clay, Bruce: Let it drop in!), ooh!
Clay then had his moment to shine, showing off his now well-oiled, serious dance moves, mixing in hip-hop with some contemporary movements in his arms as he sang and danced.
Clay: I don't flex, but I might; groove about to take flight!
John Dory then had his moment on center stage, singing and leading the other Trolls into the dance.
John Dory: 'Cause the night is young, and the music's on, and we got love on sight!
Now came the signature piece of BroZone: Bitty B's, I mean, Branch's gold falsetto singing voice that wowed anyone who ever heard it from a square mile as he spun to the beat of the music while he sang.
Branch: The sky was the limit! Now, the stars where we're livin'; it's the vibe, and we're in it! It'll blow your mind!
Then, all 5 Trolls came together, singing and dancing together, with the opening choreography looking similar to that of the one that BroZone did during the night of their fateful concert, with the exception of there being no Troll tower this time.
All: It's so perfect, perfect, perfect; a hundred percent! Put us together; you know what you'll get! Yeah, it's so perfect, perfect, perfect; harmony's so cold! And you'll never, ever wanna let it go (Branch: Go!)! Ooh!
Branch then took the lead in the singing for a while, stepping forward while doing a small side to the right as the ither Trolls around him all began to do slow-walking dances behind him.
Branch: They keep on watchin' us, watchin' us; we don't pay them no mind!
One by one, Poppy, Clay, and Bruce followed up on th singing as the 4 Trolls together connected arms and hands, moving them like one wave to one side, then another wave to the other side.
Poppy: We don't pay them no mind!
Bruce: No mind!
Clay: No mind!
Stepping back into their positions, Clay, Bruce, John Dory, and Poppy then slid on their knees, sliding past Branch, who dropped to his knees and did a similar arm wave-like movement with his arms.
Branch: There ain't no stoppin', no stoppin' us; we ain't pressin' rewind!
Bruce, Clay, and Poppy followed up on the singing again, moving their hands like they were rewinding a mixtape.
Bruce: Rewind!
Clay: Rewind!
Poppy: Rewind!
Then, their synchronized dance started up again, with Branch leading with his own dance moves while the other Trolls all did slow-walking movements around him before they all spun together.
Branch: And the sky was the limit! Now, the stars where we're livin', it's the vibe when we're in it! It'll blow your mind!
Then, the group began to move to the beat of the music, their feet crisscrossing as they moved their arms and heads to match the chorus's swing while they sang.
All: It's so perfect, perfect, perfect; a hundred percent! Put us together; you know what you'll get! Yeah, it's so perfect, perfect, perfect; harmony's so cold! And you'll never, ever wanna let it go! Don't let it go!
Then came the big build-up to the finishing line: Bruce led the wrap as he moonwalked before disco-pointing up to the ceiling.
Bruce: I don't flex, but I might; groove about to take flight!
Clay performed his well-oiled robot dance before making his hands into the shape of a heart while he kicked his feet up in the air.
Clay: 'Cause the night is young, and the music's on, and we got love on sight!
John Dory did a spinning movement on the ground before he hopped back up and crossed his arms.
John Dory: Yeah, I don't flex, but I will!
Poppy giddily slid to the side before spinning back into position.
Poppy: I ain't lack the skills!
Branch took the final rap verse, twisting his hip, moving his hands up in the air, before he snapped his fingers and lifted his sunglasses up, winking at the imaginary audience.
Branch: 'Cause when I do my dance, you put up your hands! Yeah, you can't buy these thrills!
Once more, the 5 Trolls united and danced together, putting together their entire choreography as they danced and sang the chorus one last time.
All: And it's so perfect, perfect, perfect; a hundred percent! Put us together; you know what you'll get! Yeah, it's so perfect, perfect, perfect; harmony's so cold! And you'll never, ever wanna let it go, don't let it-let it!
Leading up to the big finale, where Bruce and Clay, who both gave the hangman sign, stepped to the side and showed Branch lifting up Poppy, who cheered as her boyfriend picked her up, before they all harmonized together on the last note, the sound so crisp, clear, beautiful!
All: Perfect, perfect, perfect; let it go (Branch: Go!)! Ooh!
They finished it off by each doing their own little pose as they and the last line together.
All: Perfect, perfect, perfect!
While the ending of the song sounded very magical, the more magical sight of the entire practice session had to come from seeing how happy Branch seemed to be when he was performing with his brothers. While he had to honestly admit that there was still some prominent tension he felt in regards to being around his brothers again, for a moment, singing with them again
Unfortunately, that serene moment was abruptly stopped by John Dory, who felt very unsatisfied by how things appeared to look with how they performed, and declared, making his hands into the shape of a T to indicate a timeout, "Stop, stop, timeout."
Stepping back into his initial feel of acting as the proud and strong leader of BroZone, John Dory started to point out personal critiques that made him rethink things over, feeling like while they looked good...they weren't perfect. And if they wanted to save Floyd from his diamond prison, they needed to be PERFECT, PERFECT, PERFECT! Thia made him declare, "Let's do it again from the top," before thinking of what improvements seemed to be needed, despite the fact that his obsession for being perfect blinded the view that their performance looked flawless already.
Of course, this came at the expense of Clay, Bruce, and Branch, who would easily tell what John Dory was thinking about and braved the inevitable criticisms that the eldest sibling was gonna deliver.
John Dory's first remark was directed at Bruce, with JD telling him, "Spruce, I want some smolder in those eyes. You may not have the abs anymore, but you can still woo those ladies like before as the "Heartbreaker" if you make your smolder appear to be a little more charming."
Bruce shook his head in frustration, biting back the urge to call out John Dory for beginning to act bossy all over again and telling everyone what to do and what to fix in order to look "perfect." This was the same kind of behavior that Bruce absolutely resented the eldest sibling for, and to top it all off, John Dory still showed no respect for calling him by his old name "Spruce."
John Dory then turned his attention to Clay, saying to him, "Clay, you're being too stiff; we need some sillier robot; put a little fun in it like you used to do."
Clay crossed his arms disapprovingly, showing a lot more resentment for John Dory's behavior than Spruce was, especially since the way John Dory wanted to make them all look "perfect" was just like during their days as BroZone, and he did not like it one bit.
John Dory then faced Branch and told him while tapping his chin, thinking about something, "Bitty B, maybe a smaller diaper; or perhaps something a little more whitey and tight."
Already feeling embarrassed enough with having to be in a diaper, Branch spoke through gritted teeth, trying to not lash out angrily, "If this diaper was any smaller, I could taste it."
Tiny Diamond, who was currently driving Rhonda, turned the driver's seat to look back at the group before telling Branch, "That's why I don't wear one of those; it's a hard fit to pull off, and this is coming from a Troll who doesn't even wear clothes, period," before he turned his attention back to the road.
Seeing Branch tense up, Poppy reassured him by saying, "Hey, Branch, why don't you take a minute to get changed and take a breather? After all, ya gotta rest your charming voice," and gave another flirtatious wink at him.
Poppy's smart flirting method made Branch sheepishly smile, and he went to the one-room restroom to change into his vest and shorts again. Meanwhile, John Dory told Poppy, "As for you, hmmm, try some more emotion. You know, give us an extra smile or two, really let that optimism of yours stand out."
"Got it, John Dory," Poppy replied as Branch rejoined, with Poppy happy to be receiving some notes on how to improve her performance.
However, not everyone else was as happy about their "creative notes" as Poppy was, and Clay, feigning a smile to hide his annoyance for John Dory's controlling behavior, started telling him, sounding innocent at first, "Really great note, John Dory; super helpful. Thanks, thanks; now, I have a creative note for you."
The innocent act then dropped, with Clay shouting bitterly, "Stop being bossy"!
"What? I'm not being bossy; I'm helping us be better," John Dory quickly argued back, trying to defend his case. Meanwhile, Spruce facepalmed, shaking his head in disappointment to see John Dory still acting the same as he'd always been.
But Clay was quick to reprimand the eldest brother, harshly scolding him, "No, no, dude; you're forcing us to be perfect, just like you always have, so we can hit the perfect family harmony."
"Yeah, for Floyd," John Dory hesitantly fired back, saying, "How else are we gonna get him out of the diamond prison? Huh? This is the way"!
"Is it," Bruce asked as he took off his shades before asking John Dory while feeling angered himself, "Or is this all just so you can tell people what to do again"?
"Wha-What? Why would you think that?" John Dory spat back in defense against the second-oldest sibling.
Poppy saw that Branch seemed to be growing anxious when he saw his brothers arguing again; the scared look on his face, the way his hands balled up, and how his knees felt like they wanted to shake, it all showed that the sight of them fighting like this brought back some bad memories for him. Trying to get the peace returned, Poppy spoke up, saying, "Guys, guys, this isn't helpful right now. Let's all maybe take five, huh"?
But the Pop queen's pleas fell on deaf ears, as Bruce harshly told John Dory, "This isn't gonna work if you keep on being the same old John Dory. The same guy who caused us to all leave in the first place."
Clay added on, "Yeah, dude, we've all changed! Bruce settled down, Branch has grown up in Floyd's vest and got a girlfriend, and I'm a licensed CPA," before adding in a loud shout, "Put some respect on my name, fool"!
"Well, I'm not allowed to change; I'm the oldest, and I had to be the leader," John Dory, now feeling perturbed as well, argued back in defense, adding, "Cause if I didn't, then who else would?"
"That still doesn't give you the right to treat us like crap," Clay bluntly shouted back.
Bruce couldn;t take the stress and went to go sit down by the platform by the driver's area, sitting down while bitterly telling John Dory, "You love bossing us around; just admit it. Because let's be real; you sure seem to enjoy it so much that you've brought that habit with you on this trip"!
John dory stormed up to Bruce and told him off, saying bitterly, "It's not my fault; I didn't think i'd have to be looking out for my brothers again! Why do you think I moved to the middle of nowhere? So I didn't have to be in charge of anyone; four little brothers is a lot of responsibility."
"You sound an awful lot like dad did when he abandoned us," Bruce argued back bitterly.
"Do NOT bring that man into this," John Dory angrily snarled out, saying, "He never gave two sugars about our family, nor about mom! Don't you remember how upset she got when she caught him cheating?! He stopped being our dad the day he said that he wanted NOTHING to do with us"!
"It seems the apple doesn't fall far from the tree then, huh?" Bruce spat back.
John Dory did not appreciate being compared to their father, and it only seemed to spark the fire of anger and resentment amongst the brothers.
Bruce then quickly added, "And in any case, why do you think I left? So no one would treat me like you did, you obsessive, one-minded control freak"!
"You know what, Spruce," John Dory asked, almost ready to throw hands at him.
"It's Bruce, you conceited jerk," Clay shouted in defense, reminding him of Bruce's changed name.
"Thank you, Clay," Bruc replied, seeing that Clay was helping him make a clear point in all of this turmoil that looked ready to explode if one more fuse got lit.
Watching his brothers argue, something in Branch just snapped, and in an instant, the fear and anxiety he was feeling morphed into a whole new raw emotion: anger. He balled his hands into fists and shouted, "EVERYBODY, STOP"!
Branch's voice echoed throughout Rhonda, causing everyone to stop suddenly and turn their heads to look at Branch, surprised to see his sudden mood shift.
Meanwhile, Branch was livid and furious, and all he wanted to do right now was bitterly rant at them for not only arguing again but also for their behavior, which was nothing short of deplorable and infuriating; it was practically like reliving that fateful night they all went their separate ways, and Branch was NOT having it!
Branch first went off at John Dory, saying, "John Dory, I told you this earlier, but I guess you didn't listen, but YOU have NO right to be acting like you're in control of ANY of this! You may have brought up the topic of Floyd, but as far as I'm concerned, the only one who should be leading us is me, because I'm so far the only one who seems to be the most concerned about Floyd compared to all 3 of you! You act like you know what's best for everyone, but you're just so clueless about what is really "perfect" that you can't see that we are TRYING our best here! Our best is the best we can do, so for once in your life, stop controlling us like you did back when we were younger! You are no leader; you're a tyrant! Step down, take a backseat, and let us at least try something which is more than what you've been doing, other than being obsessed about us nailing the Perfect Family Harmony"!
He then turned his attention towards Bruce and told him, his animosity not being let up, "Bruce, you may have become a father, but you are no better than John Dory! Your attempts at trying to rationalize things only make it worse; and I get that you are as upset about John Dory's controlling ways, but it also gives you NO right to try and act like the "parent" here! You still chose to walk out that night, so you are just as guilty about this whole mess! Putting all the blame on the eldest doesn't excuse how you left as much as how he left"!
Branch then faced Clay, telling him off, "Don't think I forget about you, Clay, because frankly, your reason for leaving shares similar bases with Bruce's! I know you bear a lot of resentment for John, but just like I was saying to Bruce, that doesn't give you as much right to put all the blame on him because, in the end, YOU still chose to leave that night! All because you couldn't handle John Dory not taking you more seriously while Bruce, Floyd, and I did"!
Once Branch had his moment to let it all out, he took a minute to breathe in and out before saying, "All this arguing is not gonna help us be able to save Floyd. So, for once, can we all just please put aside all of this crap that we can dish out later and work together on completing this mission? We can't forget about Floyd; he needs us."
John Dory, Clay, and Bruce all looked at one another and knew that Branch made a good point; despite the tensions amongst one another, they still had to save Floyd before he was killed or worse over by Mount Rageous. John Dory, trying to get things back in control, replied, "Look, Branch is right; we're here for Floyd."
Seeing his brothers listen to reason gave Branch a sense of relief that things could start to settle down a bit. He was still mad at them for their arguing, amongst other things, but he could sigh in relief knowing that he got some of his own frustrations off his chest and also got things to settle down. So now, they could focus on their mission to save Floyd and rescue him.
But then, John Dory interrupted Branch's train of thought by saying bluntly, "Let's just get this done, and we can go our separate ways."
"Fine by me if it means I never have to see your mug again, John Dory," Clay snapped back.
"Same here," Bruce added bitterly.
Those words shocked Branch, who was now confused by this; what did John mean that they'd "go their separate ways" once this was done? At the same time, this also opened a whole new wave of emotions in Branch, who couldn't believe that his brothers were so willing to leave and not see each other again after wanting to rescue their other brother! But, this wasn't how it was supposed to be! He thought that after Floyd was rescued...
Trying to make sense of this, Branch asked, "Wait, what? Guys, you aren't being serious...are you"?
John Dory replied to Branch's statement, saying, " What? The mission's the mission"?
"Yeah, no offense, Bitty B, but to be honest, we have our own things going on now, and we've just...grown apart," Bruce replied while Clay nodded in agreement.
john Dory then added, "You didn't think we'd all live together when this was all over, did you? Singing songs and roasting marshmallows and all that, right," while chuckling, thinking this was a joke.
The three older brothers didn't realize that their words of not wanting to live together after they rescued Floyd really hurt Branch a lot more than they realized. To Branch, this was a mockery; no, this was an insult; no, this... was heartbreaking. Feeling anger and hurt build up within him, he harshly commented, "Oh, I'm sorry. Is that funny to you? That I might want us to actually be a family again?"
Branch pulled out something from his pocket, which turned out to be a piece of paper, and unfolded it, revealing the old drawing of the hideout design that he made when he was little, remembering how excited he was to get to build it as a place for him and his brothers to live in together. Seeing that now, that dream was not gonna even become a reality, and seeing that his family wouldn't want to be together again, he bitterly declared, "You know what? Screw you, guys. Tiny Diamond, pull over, now"!
On cue, Tiny Diamond put on the brakes and got Rhonda to stop running, the armadillo bus screeching to a halt as its feet skidded on the ground, shaking the Trolls who were inside the bus.
When Branch felt that they had stopped, he turned around and made a beeline for the door, all with Poppy looking on in concern for Branch while his brothers watched in confusion.
"Don't be a baby, Branch," Bruce commented as he saw Branch walking up the steps.
Branch stood by where the driver's area was and faced his brothers, with Poppy standing by and watching worryingly as Branch went off as his brothers, telling them sternly, "You're all mad at him, but you guys do the exact same thing to me; you all still treat me like the baby of the family. But guess what? I stopped being a baby the day you guys walked out on me 'cause I had to. Then Grandma got eaten, and there was no one else to take care of me, so I had to learn to take care of myself. I couldn't let anyone else into my life because I figured, after the way that you guys left me, that anyone else could just up and leave if I got too close to them. And you think that after 20 years, you can just re-enter my life and then decide afterward just to go back to living separately again?! Family is supposed to look out for each other and be there...together...but I guess we're not family then."
Poppy bit her lower lip in concern, taking in all of Branch's words as he watched his brothers all reel in shock from seeing their youngest brother vent out his frustrations at them. Truth be told, if Branch hadn't spoken up, she would've surely delivered a piece of her mind about this, but Branch beat her to the punch.
Branch then added, "I'm not gonna even give you guys the satisfaction of having me bear my own heart to watch you guys walk out of my life again like that night," and scrunched up his drawing into a tiny ball, declaring as he tossed the ball away and headed towards the door to walk out of Rhonda, "This time, I'm walking out on you."
As Branch left the armadillo bus, the wadded-up paper ball fell to the floor, rolling on the carpet. Poppy ran over to the paper and unfurled it, gazing at the drawing that Branch had made when he was a baby, the one that depicted what his special hideout would look like. all 5 brothers' sticker heads present, the 10-story waterslide that they'd use to shower, the special areas for each brother to stay in; it looked just like...
Suddenly, in realization, Poppy let out a small gasp, recognizing what this was: Branch's bunker. Ever since she had first met Branch, he had always said that this was a survival bunker, his special protection of all things dangerous. She always thought that he built it to keep safe, but...didn't realize that his real reason for building it...was for his brothers. He mjst've hoped that one day, his brothers would come back, and if they did, then the bunker would be ready for them so they could all live together in his little "hideout." He...wanted them to come back.
Realizing the significance of the picture, Poppy commented softly, "This is Branch's bunker; he built this...for you guys."
All three brothers were in shock to hear that Branch had made his bunker, not only to keep himself safe but also for them. Branch had hoped that they'd one day come back and they could live together. He wanted them to be a family again, and all they've done since coming back together is dismiss him and be wrapped up in their own troubles and animosity, that they didn't act like a proper family should.
"I didn't know," John Dory, who was the only one brave enough to issue a response, replied.
Something then came over Poppy, and as she stood back up, her eyes gazed back to look at John Dory. In but a rare moment of anger, she glared at him while saying, "You never asked. How were you supposed to?"
That wave of harshness from the comment made John Dory feel taken aback, while Clay and Bruce were just as surprised to see the Pop Queen take an intense stance.
Poppy turned around and faced the brothers, her glare not being let up, as she said while throwing off the red puffy jacket she had on, "You 3 have absolutely no idea what Branch has gone through since you left him, and you know what? He was right to call you out on not being there because if you understood what Branch had to witness from such a young age, you'd be feeling just as appalled and shocked as I was when I was the ONLY Troll who was there for him and asked him. Brothers are supposed to be friends who never leave you, but...I guess Branch was right when he said you guys AREN'T his family because if we're talking the truth here, real family members don't just walk out on one another because someone hurt you or said a bad thing. You're supposed to love each other, care for each other, listen, and yes, even show tough love, but never abandon those who care about you. you don't know Branch like that because you were never there for him, nor did you even bother to ask him or hear him out."
She then said while placing Branch's picture in her hair for safe keeping, "Go ahead to Mount Rageous if you want, but I'm not gonna stand here and try to enhappify the situation; whatever you 3 have against one another, work it out on your own. Meanwhile, I'm going out there to find MY family, and help him rescue YOUR family. and yes: Branch is MY family, before you ask," before storming out of Rhonda and heading out to catch up with Branch.
This left 3 guilt-ridden Trolls alone in the armadillo bus, reeling in guilt for everything that had happened, and the mood only became more solemn when Clay asked, "Wait, grandma got eaten"?
Out by the cloudy pathway leading up to the main city residing on Mount Rageous, Poppy saw Branch making the long march up to it on his own and quickly tried to follow him. While running as fast as she could, she called out to Branch, shouting, "Branch, wait! Branch!"
Once she was able to catch up to him, she could tell that, even without having to see his face, that by how tense his hands looked clenched as fists, he was reeling in anger and frustration. Much of it he failed to mask from the frustrated frown he had and the bitter memories that played on in his head that made him look forward with almost a coldness, but with also the fear of not wanting Poppy to see him like this.
As she did her best to walk at a pace quick enough to keep up with him, she asked him, "Where are you going?
"To save Floyd. ALONE," Branch declared bluntly, adding on, "Since my "brothers" don't seem to care as much about us being together again, then who needs them to help save him? I didn't need them growing up, and I don't need them now."
Branch, deep down, didn't like speaking about his brothers this way, but he couldn't blame himself for it; after all, it was THEM who decided to simply walk out of his life that fateful night, and now, they had the marbles to be coming back and trying to act like all these changes are normal yet nothing has really changed. John Dory was still too stuck up in his obsessive mindscape about things being perfect, Bruce, despite seemingly acting like the responsible one since he's become a father, was still seeing the way he acted as if he was still a baby and not the grown man he was, and Clay, who though has been showing to have at least acknowledged Branch no longer being little, had so much resentment for John Dory that it blinded his own judgments about how to handle the situation.
The worst part about this was that Branch was the only one who really hoped that deep down, once this was all over and Floyd was saved, that they could've gone back to being a family again. That they could've all lived together in his bunker, his special hideout, which he built not just for himself...but for them. And that hope got crushed when it displayed that none of his older brothers seemed like they wanted to be back together again, and looked all so willing to go back their own ways once everything was done. So, why have them still be around to help then if all they were gonna do afterward was leave? Why stick around and let them walk out again? Why...did it still hurt to say that this time he was walking out on them? Why...does he still miss them?
Branch's train of thought got interrupted when he saw that Poppy was still following him, which, in confusion, prompted him to aks her, "What-What are you doing"?
"What do you mean? I'm coming with you," Poppy replied, almost shocked that Branch would even ask that, but at the same time, she couldn't be shocked since she knew Branch was still feeling upset.
While Branch normally feels a sense of relief to see his girlfriend coming with him, he currently still felt a sense of anxiety about Poppy wanting to leave him, too. After all, growing up, so many people left him: his brothers, his grandma, his parents, so what was to say that Poppy would be any different? that anxiety made Branch stammer nervously as he looked back at her while still trying to walk ahead, "Why bother? A-Aren't you gonna leave me eventually anyway"?Everyone else does."
"Everybody else does," those words ran in his head and caused Branch to stop walking, looking down in not sadness, not fear, but... reminiscence. The memories of the people he cared for the most, leaving him, stung Branch, both physically and emotionally, and the mental scars of his trauma felt like they were gonna burst open and bleed all over the poor Troll.
Poppy knew that Branch was scared, and she knew well that given what Branch had gone through, him feeling this way was as heartwrenching as it was expected, but, she wasn't gonna give up so easily.
She gently grabbed Branch's hand and held it firmly, yet softly, telling him with sincerity, "I have been by your side from the moment we met, and you've been by mine. Through the good moments, and the bad, despite what came our way, nothing ever stopped me from being there for you, and that is never gonna change. Not now, not ever. I know that you have struggled for a long time to open up about the things that have hurt you, things that were hard to talk about, and I know that a lot of the time, that is something that can be hard to do because...it can be hard to feel safe to open up. When so many people leave, you wanna keep yourself closed because...it's the only sense of security that you can muster since it feels like if it stays with you...it won't come back to hurt you. But, you never have to worry about that with me, Branch; I'll be here for you, no matter what happens or what we are doing or what we go through, we are in it together. I won't leave your side, even if you try to push me away, and you know why"?
"Because..." Poppy said before pausing for a moment; there were so many things that she could say in response. she could say "I love you," but that was too cliche and too common. She could say "Because I care about you," but that could be a bit hypocritical to mention since she cared about a lot of people, although compared to the way she cared about Branch, it was a lot more special. And she couldn't just say, "Because you're special" because that could be taken the wrong way on multiple levels. But then, when she thought back to the way that Branch interacted with his brothers since they reunited and thought back to the earlier argument on the bus, it hit her...the perfect thing to say...because it was something that she didn't think that his brothers EVER even told him.
She gently caressed her thumb slowly across Branch's forehand and then told him reassuringly, "Because you matter."
Those 3 little words, a trio of phrases that, while on the outside, seemed so minimal, so casual, so...vague, yet on the inside, they meant so much more, and the way in which these words hit Branch stunned him emotionally, physically, and mentally.
Poppy continued to speak, saying, "You matter a lot, Branch. You matter to the Pop tribe, you matter to our friends, you matter to your grandmother, and you matter...to me. I know many people would just say "I love you" and that's always nice, but...I don't think anyone's ever made you feel like your presence mattered to whatever went on, right"?
Branch's mouth was agape, and the survivalist couldn't even utter a word, mainly because he was shocked to see Poppy speak so...wisely. Unsure of where she was going with it but not wanting her to stop, he gave a small nod, which pushed Poppy to keep going.
Poppy continued, saying, "Back before we became best friends, when you were in your grey period, a lot of Trolls often looked the other way, ignored you, made you think like your thoughts and matters didn't seem to matter, and this was something I saw in you every time you came by the village. Many argued about you being too paranoid, and maybe for some cases it was, but that was never how I saw it. Back then, I wasn't even a proper princess before I became queen; I was too focused on trying to keep my people happy and pleased to really consider my responsibilities as ruler and how much it'd matter if we were in an actual crisis. I never took it as seriously as you would've if you were king, but even then, it didn't stop me from wanting to reach out to you because even then, when you pushed me away, I could tell deep down...you really needed it, more than you think. It's why I kept inviting you to our parties, even after you smashed my invites; because I wanted you to see that you still mattered, if not in the minds of other Trolls, at least...to me.
Then, when we learned about the different Troll tribes and Barb's World tour came around, I thought that I knew what was best, that we could simply hug our way to resolving a centuries' long separation that was started by the selfishness of our ancestors' leader. But like before, I didn't consider the seriousness of the circumstances, but you did, and despite that, I refused to listen, which ended up hurting a lot of our friends, and I ended up hurting you...and I've regretted that. But I never stopped thinking about you, and it's because of you that I realized how I needed to listen and learn to accept each other's differences. It's because of you that helped me see that because, as I said before, I love that we are different, and I love you, Branch. So, even if your brothers made you feel like you didn't matter to them because of what went on in their lives, know this; to me, Branch, you will ALWAYS matter. Your feelings, thoughts, opinions, and even vents and anger matter to me. And I will NEVER stop being there for you, the same way that you have never stopped being ther for me, despite a lot of my own foolish actions."
She then added, "Let's give each other some credit here."
Branch couldn't help but feel really...speechless, in possibly one of the best ways that he's ever felt, and taking Poppy's words to heart, he knew that the Pop Queen made a really valid point. And this point she made...really touched him on a whole new emotional level that...he always tried to shove away. That fear of the people he loved always leaving him eventually...it just didn't come to him when he saw Poppy, and even now...this confirmed how really devoted Poppy was to being a part of his life...and he felt so...grateful for it.
Realizing that Poppy was truly right in what she said, he let out a small sigh before apologizing to her, saying, "Right. Uh, I'm sorry, Poppy, for trying to push you away," before he said with sincerity and gratitude, "Thank you."
"You're welcome," Poppy replied before answering with a sincere smile, "And I'm not going anywhere, unless it's with you..to save Floyd."
Branch could almost cry if he wanted to, but the big smile he had on his face showed all the more proof of how much Poppy really meant to him. He and Poppy then shared a hug together, and Poppy could feel it in the extra squeeze that Branch gave her as he hugged her that this sign of reassurance meant the world to Branch in showing him that she meant what she said; she wasn't going anywhere, and right now, all she wanted to do was go with Branch to help him find Floyd. Even if it was only just the two of them, she would still follow Branch to the ends of the Earth to do so.
As the two Pop Trolls then separated from the hug, they held hands together, and feeling moved, Poppy spun Branch around before holding him close to her, singing a gentle tune.
Poppy: Let the music...set you free.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Family (Demo) by Justin Timberlake and Emily Warren~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Branch thought that the tune that Poppy was singing was beautiful, and he reciprocated by singing the same tune as he lifted Poppy up and spun her before dipping her slowly.
Branch: Let the music...set you free.
Getting an idea, Poppy pulled out her ukelele before giving it to Branch, asking him, "What do you say"?
Branch accepted the ukelele and started to strum a beautiful melody with it. As he played the ukelele, Branch and Poppy both stepped in unison, dancing in sync. While dancing, Branch, feeling inspired by the little melody that Poppy was singing, and the music that he was playing now, he felt the urge to sing.
Branch: Let the music set you free, all it takes is just a little you and me. Let's come together, 'gether as one, why not take the chance and show 'em how it's done?
Poppy then began to sing with Branch, both Pop Trolls circling together as they sang in sync.
Branch and Poppy: People wanna know when they see us dancin', wanna know how we got those moves. People wanna bottle it up, up, up, up, but no can do.
People wanna know how to follow a feelin', wanna know how we got that groove. It's always been in you.
Suddenly, both Poppy and Branch began to glow a golden light together as they sang and danced together. The sight of the sudden gold light surprised them, especially how beautiful it felt.
Branch and Poppy: Ooh, ooh-ooh, it runs in my family. Hee-hee-hee-hee, yeah.
Ooh, ooh-ooh, it runs in my family. It's all about you and...(Poppy: You...and) It's all about you and (Poppy: You...and)
Then, the feel of the gold light that was emitted made Poppy and Branch begin to hover above the ground, floating up in the air gently; both Pop Trolls were surprised to be experiencing this, but the beauty of their harmony as they performed together, it was...perfect!
Branch and Poppy: And me!
In the air, they both stared deeply into each other's eyes, feeling the happiest that they've ever been, especially how harmonic it felt to be together, just the two of them. To Branch, Poppy was the most important family member he could ever ask for. For Poppy, seeing Branch this happy made her heart warm up to full brim.
Branch and Poppy: You are my family, no one left at the beat; it starts with you and mе.
When the two concluded singing, together, the glow also subsided, and both Poppy and Branch floated back down to the ground slowly, hand-in-hand, their gaze not breaking as they continued to look into each other's eyes tenderly, even after Branch gave Poppy back her ukelele. Both Trolls seemed to come a little closer to each other, stuck in a romantic trance, their lips just so close to closing up the distance, almost meeting up in a tender kiss.
Suddenly, there was the sound of a bike bell that rang, which broke their attention and got both Trolls to look up and see who it was.
To their surprise, it turned out to be Tiny, who was peddling towards them on a red tricycle that looked big enough for a standard-sized Troll to ride. The little Glitter Troll, despite his small size, was able to get it moving efficiently, as Branch commented as he saw Tiny coming up to them, "Tiny Diamond? What are you doing here"?
"Coming with ya, of course, Daddy's friend Branch," Tiny Diamond replied, saying, "Things got real depressing on the bus, and truth be told, I did not like the way that your brothers were handling things, so, I jumped ship and came by tricyle to help ya"!
"Aww, Tiny," Poppy commented, touched to see that he was also as willing to come with Branch as she was.
Tiny smiled and replied, "Hey, what can I say? I was moved by Branch's speech and his sad, sad drawing, though a fellow man can respect another's man creative use of glitter and stickers. Now, let's roll"!
Tiny hopped off and allowed Branch to take the main seat on the tricycle, with Poppy standing on the small platform in the back, and Tiny riding on the handlebars, as Branch rung the bell and started to pedal up to Mount Rageous. While bike-riding was gonna take a little longer than it would on Rhonda, it didn't deter any of their confidence or determination to rescue Floyd in time before the Rage Dome show.
We're coming, Floyd; just hang in there a little longer, Branch thought to himself as he peddled as his life depended on it, focused more than ever on helping to save Floyd.
