Meet Francesca Rose

1. What inspired you to write Coffee Conversations?

Coffee Conversations is actually the second in the Hayes Brother series, which is a collection of stories following a family of brothers. Heterochromic Haze is the first, where an intense art student meets, and falls completely in love with, the eldest Hayes brother, Everett. I had so much fun creating these characters, and they were so alive in my mind. I knew as soon as I finished it that I wanted to write each brother's story, and explore their characters more. I was also really interested in exploring different ways that people can connect. While HH is very intense, CC is softer, and shows a different, but just as valid, approach to love and connection. Demisexuality is something an awful lot of people aren't aware of, and it fit Grey's character beautifully. I wanted to show how beautiful asexual connections can be, if you give them the time and energy they need to flourish.

2. If you had to describe Greyson's personality in 5 words or less, what would they be?

Particular, positive, polite, humble and generous.

3. What are some of your favorite tropes to use in your writing? What do you love about them?

I am such a sucker for the grumpy/sunshine trope, and I think that's evident in this story! I love the opportunity that it provides for humour, plot twists and mind-meltingly romantic moments. However, my main goal whenever I write anything is to make readers feel something. Writing has always been my art form of choice. I just find it amazing that we can paint pictures and convey emotion in something so simple as a few words.

4. You've been writing on Wattpad for over 10 years. How has your writing changed in that time? What aspects of it have stayed the same?

I have indeed! And now I feel very old haha. My writing has changed so much in that time. Honestly, sometimes I cringe just remembering what I used to write about. I imagine in a few years time, I might say the same thing about my writing now. I think that it's very natural for your writing to evolve as you do. Every year I experience more, I read more, I see things for the first time. Every single second impacts me, and in turn, my writing. I remember I read loads of Stephen King books a few years ago, and suddenly started writing in third person! However, I've never given up on writing, even when I've gotten stuck, or hated what I wrote. I just kept going. I have about a million drafts on my laptop...

Writing has always been an outlet for me too, and that's never changed. I process emotions, which are often too hard to speak, through my writing, and what I produce is a testament to how strong I am, and how even the most difficult moments can be used as fuel for something beautiful.

5. What is your favorite book you've read recently (either on or off Wattpad) and what do you love about it?

This is a tricky one. Despite being a romance writer, I almost exclusively read thrillers, crime and classics. I recently read Butter by Asako Yuzuki, which was very interesting. It explored the crushing expectations society has on women, specifically Japanese women, and how to reclaim your life through something as simple as food. There were moments in the book that were distinctly odd, but even those were completely charming.

I also recently re-read Persuasion, which is my absolute favourite Jane Austen novel, and is much more fitting for a romance writer!!

Many thanks to HappilySad for the amazing interview! We hope it encourages more readers to check out the wonderful Hayes Brother series.
