TWO. STOLEN
The power of the serum was easier to control than what Vida had expected. She imagined constant pain happening during the day as if her body was reacting towards it and wanted to her rid of the serum, but that didn't even happen, not one cell in her body fought the serum, instead, it seemed like it embrace it, Vida felt stronger every day, she could feel her body change for the good and her abilities becoming stronger too.
"We know where they are going to attack next, we need Vida on the field now, she has to have some sort of uniform that can protect her body from any type of dangers." One of the captains ordered his troop to help him, the young woman had been in the room hearing everything, now that she was going to the field, she had to know the plans.
"What if instead of attacking to their right side we attack from the sky? They won't notice us coming from there." Vida leaned forward, her eyes glancing up to the Captain. "Or would that be too risky?"
"That is not a bad idea Captain." A soldier said behind the woman.
"It isn't, it is a bit risky since our planes can be noisy and we don't know if they will be handling planes as well during their attacks, it can give them our location."
"I have someone who can help us." A soldier spoke up, and all eyes turn to him. "I can contact him, he's an ally."
"How do we trust you?" Vida replied, her arms crossed over her chest, studying his facial expressions.
"We don't, with that comment you just made soldier, we can't trust that you aren't part of them." The Captain said, soldiers around him agreed, and even a few stepped away from the one who spoke first. "You'll go, but, you'll take Vida with you." The young woman turned to look at her captain, her eyes wide in shock, she was going to be left with a soldier no one trusted, and for what? To keep an eye on him? Yes, she had strength and speed, but the training was ongoing, and Vida still had work to do with her abilities.
"I'll protect Vida with my life, Sir." The soldier saluted and turned to look at Vida. "We will contact our connection tonight, I'll tell them to meet us tomorrow at 4 hours and to get us a plane for us."
"Well, everyone, get back to work and training, we will be waiting for an answer tonight, be prepared to leave early morning as soon as we get that plane on the ground." Captain shouted out, soldiers answered back and started leaving the room. "Richter, stay, we need to discuss your uniform for battle."
"What do you mean a uniform?" Vida's curiosity snapped her full attention to her Captain.
"Well we cannot throw you to battle in normal attire, you will need protection over your body and also something that can be envisioned as the American symbol for the bad guys."
"Okay? What did you have in mind for that?" Vida asked, her eyes noticing how four people behind the Captain walked into the room. "Don't make me wear one of those uniforms you guys have on the showgirls, that will not be a good look, am I going to be a soldier or a sex symbol?" The three women and the only male of the group that just walked in chuckled at the comment Vida made.
"No, Miss Richter, you are gonna look amazing, this is the idea we present to you." A sketch was placed on the table in front of them, the figure of Vida's body, a uniform that covered her body and even a helmet for her head, she looked like an eagle from head to toe, her helmet had shapes of wings, her bodysuit looked like the American flag, stripes all over, the words around it clearly showing the color scheme. Blue, Red, and White.
"This is going to make me look like I am from France instead of the American symbol." Vida looked up at the people around her, two women glared at each other before nodding their heads.
"That's why we made your helmet like an eagle type, the peak in front to cover from your eyes to your nose." The designer said proudly as he showcased the drawing again.
"What if I said no?" Vida turned to look at the Captain, his eyes glancing his attention at the designer.
"Well, I would say it would be too late? The uniform is ready, you just need to wear it so we can make the final changes."
Vida stood there, impressed and confused about how quickly they had made it, and how did they do it if they didn't have her measurements, or at least she thought she didn't. Sighing softly, she smiled gently at the group, her eyes looked at them all, they picked it up and walked away, Vida followed along behind them, excusing herself from the room.
The fitting room was in the same room as training for the soldiers to build their muscles, luckily for Vida, soldiers were outside doing their training for battle, the bodysuit was perfectly into her body, the only bad thing she noticed, was its itches like hell, her not toned muscles felt like mosquitoes had sucked into her skin and left marks everywhere for her to scratch, maybe, allergy to the material, but Vida knew, she wasn't going to complain about this, at least not today. The helmet was okay, perfectly tight around her head, enough to be secured but it wasn't agonizing to cause a headache.
Her reflection, she didn't recognize, she didn't feel like herself as she stared at it, her hair had been braided and hidden, her eyes behind the mask darkened her vision, perhaps a bit dangerous during the night, Vida felt like this was made too quickly and didn't consider the night situation.
"How do we feel?" One of the women said, Vida, turned to look at her. "I know this is all new, I get it if you say uncomfortable, we want to try this out, it is very protective over your body, and we will also give you some type of shield to protect the rest of your body from the bullets, Dr. Erksine will talk to you about it."
"That's sweet, thank you, and yeah, I feel, odd, but, I can move, so that's good for the fighting moments I might get." Vida chuckled, turning around and taking long strides, she was able to move properly, and that was good.
"I tried to tell them to not use the eagle helmet, but they didn't listen to me." Dr. Erksine spoke up, walking into the room as he hid behind the door before. "I would understand if you want to step down this first mission Vida, I will not lie to you and say it will be an easy expedition."
"No, I want to do this, I want to end this war." Vida quickly answered back. A smile formed on Dr. Erksine's face afterward and the man placed both of his hands on Vida's shoulders, his eyes softening as if something terrible was gonna be said.
"You must know that this isn't going to be easy, perhaps this mission might be, but what happens next it won't be, once you walk out to that field, things will be different, you understand?" Dr. Erksine's soft-spoken voice made the mission seem more like a field trip with some obstacles than a scary mission in which her life was at stake too.
"I can imagine it won't be easy at all, but it is a risk I am willing to take." Vida said, a deep sigh nos a straightened posture before she headed outside, the weather was getting chillier and the sky was darker, her eyes adjusted to the absence of light quickly, searching for the soldier.
"Miss Vida, over here." The previous soldier waved to get her attention, the platinum blonde walked over, her strides long to make her entrance quick and also to hide in case of any enemies near. "Here we have the communicator, this could be easy for us, let's just hope there isn't someone else hearing our conversation, that might give our position away."
"I didn't get your name soldier." Vida felt the need to earn that information, her life was going to be protected by this soldier if anything happened, and at least a name could be exchanged.
"Marcus Oliver, Miss Vida, it is very exciting to be paired with you, it isn't common to see a woman in uniform or even being the new face of what peace could bring us, but I respect it," Marcus said looking up at the recruit. "I have an older sister, very strong and has always looked out for me, and a younger sister who wants to be strong and powerful, I think you could be someone to look up to for her."
"That's very sweet of you to say, I am still a bit unsure about all of this, how easy it was for them to accept this idea, but I'll take it, I have nothing else to lose if I am being honest." Vida said smiling softly at Marcus, a small static sound was heard from the radio, a distorted voice followed afterward.
"Marcus, not safe, they know." Cuts interrupted in between words, but those small words were important to know what had happened. "Protect everyone." A gunshot was heard loudly then static.
"You got to be joking." Both said in unison, Marcus took out his gun pointing at the door behind them, Vida took out two knives that hid underneath her wings.
A loud bombing sound was heard outside, screaming followed along, gunshots, chaos. Vida and Marcus rushed outside, fires already burned down tents and rooms where soldiers slept, the few who managed to get out had their guns ready, shooting towards the woods, Marcus stood in front of Vida, shouting to follow him, bullets exploded out of the weapon towards a few Nazi uniforms who were running towards them.
"We need to get you to safety, if they find you, it can be something terrible." Marcus shouted out taking Vida's wrist pulling her with him.
"We need to find Dr. Erksine, he need to be hidden too." Vida answered to his words, she knew he was just as important, he could be killed and Vida needed him.
"We need you first on a safety room, we will bring Dr. Erksine into safety too, come on." Marcus shouted out, interrupted by a shot in his arm. Vida looked around noticing the armed soldier behind them, Vida rushed over to him swinging her knives failing miserably with each one, the adrenaline was high, her mind was fuzzy.
"Not so tough huh?" The soldier laughed, the gun pointed down at her leg, Vida quick reflexes kicked the wrist away, the gun shooting its bullet at the ground, Vida kicked him back, slashing her knife against his arm and cheek, a gunshot to his side, Marcus stood beside Vida.
"Good first fight, lets move." Nodding her head the platinum blonde rushed behind him, taking her own gun that rested on her leg, only shooting to bodies that rushed over to her, some bullets missed, some other were a hit with damage. Vida knew this wasn't going to be an easy task, she just didn't imagine how hard it would actually be.
Marcus and Vida rushed into a cabin, soldiers bodies laid lifeless inside, specks of light shined through the bullet holes that had been left around it, Vida's eyes widened in shock, if she could scream, she would, there was too much blood pouring from different areas of the soldier's bodies.
"We need a new plan Miss, we need you to be safe, you are the only one who can stop all of this." Marcus pleaded, his gun aiming at the door, the shoutings growing louder with the passing seconds.
"Marcus, open up now, we got to leave, it's Georgie." A man shouted out behind the door, Vida and Marcus shared a look, unsure of what to do. "Hurry, we need to get the girl to safety, they are coming." The man shouted louder, Marcus didn't lower his gun at any moment, he walked over to the door, looking back briefly.
"Hide." He said to Vida, the woman nodded and stood behind some boxes and bodies, taking a peek, she noticed how Marcus opened the door with his body against the wood, not standing in front as he opened it, the injured soldier rushed in, his gun lowered to his side, calling Marcus' name.
"Drop it now." Marcus exclaimed the gun pointed behind his head. "You're supposed to be dead, we heard you Georgie."
"I'm hurt, I didn't die, but I should've said something sooner." Georgie didn't drop the weapon, he put both of his hands up, one of them heavily injured, Vida could swear that there were two fingers missing, but she didn't want to put attention to the wounds, she needed to not make a sound.
"Tell me the truth, you're one of them aren't you" Marcus pushed the weapon, Georgie's head lowering by the action.
"He does, thank you for your service soldier." Another voice said behind Marcus, a loud gunshot followed after, his body dropped forward, liquid rushing down between his eyebrows and nose, Vida covered her mouth feeling her body shivering aggressively.
"Come out wherever you are soldier." The strong German accent spoke loudly, Vida didn't want to move, but when he shouted out, now, she didn't think twice, slowly she stood up. "Well, look at the new miracle Dr. Erksine has created, drop the weapon darling, we are not the enemies here." The man said, Vida looked at him, studied him.
Tall, white and not too old looking, very thin, dressed in all black. Intimidating at the totality of its word, Vida dropped her gun, she knew she didn't have a chance against him, he seemed to be quick on his feet, he would pull the trigger faster than her, and also Georgie was there, aiming at her.
"You are America's symbol of freedom aren't you? That's nice." He said, walking towards her, circling around her. "I must forgive myself for you friend, he didn't understand the vision we have for the world, but you will, you'll see." He said whispering to her right ear, a sharp pain took over her body, in seconds she felt weak, her vision blurry, then Vida fell asleep, or that is what it felt like.
"Dr. Erksine had fled, we must go back to base." Georgie said, standing up from his knees.
"You're right, we must go, but no witnesses." Another gunshot, this time it was Georgie's body falling next to Marcus'. A few soldiers walked into the room, looking around and then at their boss. "Take her, we have a new weapon in our hands, Dr. Erksine will regret creating her, America will be on their knees begging for forgiveness." Everyone shouted in unison Hail Hydra. "White Dove will rise, the world is defeated, Hydra will rule everything." The soldiers chanted again and again the words Hail Hydra.
This was just the beginning, chaos had commenced.
