Tricking Spells

3rd person POV:

A woman is seen running through a forest with someone chasing after her.

???: Return the scroll, immediately or there will be consequences!

???2: Not if I escape!

???: You can never escape as long as you have that scroll!

???2: We'll see about that...

???2: "Fir-mo-go"!

From the tips of her fingertips, a ball of fire emerged. She then launched it and caused a large forest fire which her chaser was forced to put out for some reason.

???: Damn that fool!

The chaser turned to the city in the distance which she knew her thief was heading to.

???: Going into a city is a double edge sword, you robeless fool.

Newscaster: Hello, this is Jenna Skriim of channel 2 news.

Jenna: A 2050 poll showed that 14% of people in the world believe in magic.

Jenna: Yesterday, on May 4th, 2060 another poll ended.

Jenna: And shockingly, you might even say frighteningly...

Jenna: That 14% of believers has grown to 50% over the decade.

Jenna: Yes, 50% of the population of the world claims to believe in magic.

Jenna: All because of one man...

Jenna: Yn Phoenix, the impossible!

Jenna: Starting with doing tricks on an internet platform, then moved on to streaming his performance.

Jenna: He'll be performing the final show of his latest world tour in his home city, tomorrow night.

The words of Jenna the news anchor echoed through the large stadium that the impossible man's show was being played in for all the audience members, including Jenna herself who had front row seats.

Yn: 50%!

A voice echoed through the stadium as all the lights in the stadium turned off until a single spotlight ignited and began moving around in the stadium, drawing the audience's attention all around as both the light and the audience themselves searched for the star of the show.

Yn: 50%... Now I don't know how accurate that truly is, but frankly, I'm disappointed!

Yn: I had hoped to reach 100% by now. Guess it's true what they say about fame...

Yn: It's distracting...

The spotlight then landed in the front row, where Jenna was, for that was where the star was.

Cameras began filming the star of the show and putting that footage of him on the large screen for all to see.

The famous magician with his back turned to the audience then dashingly turned around and revealed himself.

(Yn Phoenix: The impossible man)

Yn:(smirks) As distracting as that one button you leave open miss Skriim.

Jenna:!?

Out of nowhere, he pulls out a teacup and takes a sip.

Yn:(smiles) I'm teasing of course...

Yn: But how do expect me to be focused when you're here?

Jenna: I'm sure you can manage.

Yn: Tell me miss Skriim... Do you believe in magic?

Jenna: No, not really.

Yn:(grinning) Well then...

Putting his hand into the teacup, mister Phoenix pulls out a bouquet of paper flowers.

Yn: Let's see if we can make it 51%...

Tossing the bouquet into the air, it begins raining flowers for all the audience members. Enough where everyone got one.

The light then flickered off of Yn. When it came back on, he was already on stage.

Yn: Today, I shall perform 5 magic tricks!

Yn: Seeing as this is my last show for this tour... I shall allow you, my audience, to tell me what trick to perform!

Yn: Anything you've seen me do before... Even the big stunts that shouldn't be possible here, I shall do!

Yn:(smirks) So what will it be? What is it that made you believe in magic?

(3 hours later)

Yn: Hehehehe...

The show was over, everyone was leaving thoroughly entertained.

Backstage, Phoenix the impossible, in his dressing room, fell onto a couch, exhausted.

Yn: Ah~ It's oveeeerr~

Yn: Sweet, sweet vacation, here I come.

A dark-skinned man wearing a suit that Yn knew very well then entered the dressing room.

(Phil Coll)

Phil: Nice show... The news girl left this.

He tosses a card, which Yn catches. Reading it, he saw a phone number.

Yn: Hm...

Phil: She's pretty cute...

Yn: As fun as it would be to "pull" something out of her... I'll pass.

Flicking the card, it curves through the air before igniting into flames.

Phil: Any particular reason why?

Yn: I want a vacation... Need to recharge my magic. Maybe find a new assistant...

Yn: You know... To help ease the workload on me so I take fewer vacations.

Phil: Another assistant?

Phil: You go through assistants as you go through condoms.

Phil: Because you use the condoms to fuck the assistants, which is why they are eventually let go and you get another.

Yn: Hey, I don't fuck assistants!

Phil: You've done nothing but exclusively fuck your assistants for the past decade.

Yn:... But that's not the reason they left.

Phil: Well, after the screwing, it goes downhill and they leave or get fired.

Phil: The only reason you should get one is to boost male viewers, but that ain't a problem right now.

Yn:(yawn) Yeah...

Moving his hat over his face, mister impossible begins drifting off to dreamland.

Phil: You seriously going to sleep here?

Yn: Yep... It's not like they're going to kick me out.

Phil: Whatever, mister impossible. Enjoy your vacation.

Yn: See ya around, Coll... Hopefully not in my dreams tho'.

The world-famous magician falls asleep soon after mister Coll flicks off the lights, and shuts the door to the dressing room as he leaves.

Yn: Zzzzz...

(15 minutes until sunrise)

The large stadium that the impossible man performed in last night was completely empty, and still, a mess for the cleaning crew was only going to arrive later today.

It all seemed peaceful if messy until the power went completely out for the security guards forcing them to head to the basement to check the fuse box as a red-haired woman entered the main stadium where the stage and the seats were.

In her early twenties, with her long locks of hair tied up into a bun behind her head with only a few stray pieces hanging out, this woman strutted around the stadium with a flaming hand lighting her way.

Her clothes were quite strange. By no means did they match the clothing of modern times. It was as if she came from some type of cosplay convention or a medieval fair.

Most of her clothing was leather-made that hugged her body. Mostly Brown and grey, she had a mini cyan jacket with its collar popped. Her arms had red-tinted bracers going up them. And with all the straps and pouches, her style was definitely defined as "fantasy".

(April Jewelle: Follower of Calia)

April: This should help me hide from that Mage knight...at least long enough for me to regain my strength.

April: Hm?

Looking at the floor, she notices flowers.

April: Flowers? No...

Picking one up, she discovers it's made of paper.

April:... Paper flowers...? Strange... What kind of event transpired here?

???: FOUND YOU, THEIF!

April:!?

Looking up at the open roof of the stadium, she saw the person who was chasing her through the forest.

???:(smile)

Like April, she did not wear normal clothing, but unlike her, this woman with white hair yet in the same age group as April wore a uniform.

Mostly black with red aspects here and there her skirt and cloak gave off more of a royal vibe.

(Eda Radcliffe: Mage Knight)

Leaping down through the open roof, Eda began falling down into the stadium.

Eda: "Ma-no"!

She shouted while tapping her boots which seem to respond with a slight glow.

This Mage Knight then gained little pads made of light which she used to run down safely to April's level on the ground floor.

April: How did you find me so fast?!

Eda: I told you already! You can never escape as long as you have that scroll!

April:(mind) What is she... Does she mean the scroll has some kind of tracking spell on it!?

Eda: Listen. If you give back the scroll, I'll take you in peacefully.

April: Scared you can't defeat me?

Eda: Though we may be in an empty stadium, we're still in the territory of the Norms.

Eda: If we fight, it could bring attention. And if the worst comes about, and the Norms re-discover magic...

April: I know the risks! But I'll still fight you!

Eda: Why?

April:(smirks) Because I know I can defeat you.

Eda:(slowly shakes head) Tsk, tsk, tsk...

Eda: A self-thought mage could never match up to a wizard that has studied for years like me.

April: I'm not just self-thought... Calia herself has given me lessons.

Eda:...

April: How about this... A contract battle. First, one to fall wins.

Eda: I win, the scroll and you will return with me.

April: I win, your life is mine.

Eda: So be it.

April: "Con-rule".

Two floating contracts formed in front of them.

Bitting their dumbs, they drew their signature in blood then the contracts disappeared.

April: "Fir-go"!

Creating a ball of fire, April flings it at the magical Knight who leaps onto the nearby seat to avoid it.

Thr spell continues until hitting the back of the main stage.

(Boom)

(Dressing room)

Yn: Zzzz...

(Muffled mage battle noises)

Yn:...

(Slight rumble)

Yn:... Tch. What is going on out there...?

Taking his hat off his face, the great magician sits up, on his couch, and listens to the noises going on outside.

Yn: What the...?

Flipping his hat into the air, mister impossible stands up, causing the hat to land perfectly on his head.

He then heads out to see what was going on.

Exiting the dressing room, he peeks behind the corner of the stage to see the battle between two real magic users.

One using fire, the other light.

Yn:!?

A rouge light attack goes by the stage, making a hole backstage.

Making sure to not be seen, the impossible man touches the hole made in the wall but quickly retracts it because of the heat.

Yn: Ah!

Yn:(mind) I can't believe it... T-they're... They're using real magic spells...

Amazed he stared at the two girls.

April:(chuckles)

April: It seems that little entrance of yours has left you quite tired!

Eda: Don't count your wins before they occur!

A large grin grew upon the magician.

Eda: "Lig-

April: "Fir-

(Clap, clap, clap)

Eda/April:!?

Their forming of spells was interrupted by someone applauding, followed by laughter.

Yn: HAHAHAHAHAH!

Eda/April:!?!

Yn Phoenix, the impossible man then walked onto the stage, revealing himself to the two mages.

Yn:(applauding) Bravo! Bravo!

Eda: W-

April: "Fir-go"!

Eda:!?

April launches a fire blast at Eda who lifts her coat to defend herself. Upon impact, Eda was not burned but still launched across the stadium.

Eda: Ugh...

Yn: Hm... That seems a little unfair...

April: I win. Your life is mine but before that... Who are you!?

Yn: Me?

April: Yes. Are you with her?

Yn:(smile) Oh no, madam. I'm simply a practitioner of the magic arts.

Yn: And I couldn't help but come and watch your little...magic battle.

April: Huh?

Yn: But if you wish to know who I am... Then simply look there.

Pointing to something above, April and Eda turn to what he's pointing at to see a billboard Phoenix himself visible out the open roof of the stadium.

Eda/April: "Phoenix, the impossible?"

Yn:(smirks) Master magician. King of misdirection. Monarch of illusions.

Yn:(bows) At your service...

April: A...a magician...?

Eda:(mind) A Normie found us out! It seems I have to abandon the mission to retrieve the scroll...

Eda:(mind) I only have enough mana for one more spell... Apologies, but the secret of magic must be kept.

Pointing her arm at him, she starts to cast a spell.

Eda: "Lig-

Yn: Not so fast!

Taking his hat, he tosses it at Eda like a frisbee.

Eda: Agh!?

Hitting her in the face with the force of a frisbee, Eda is knocked against a chair behind her and the spell she was about to cast fizzled out.

After bouncing back, Yn catches his hat and places it back on his head with a little stylish flip.

Yn: I want to play as well.

Eda: Sir... Listen, this isn't a game. I'm trying to take back something she stole.

Yn: Hm... What did she steal?

Yn: Oi, you! What did you steal?

April: None of your business.

Yn: It is now. I want it.

Eda: What!?

April: You don't even know what it is!

Yn: I'm willing to bet it's something magical. And my whole life is built around magic!

Yn: So let's have a showdown for it!

April:...(chuckles) You're insane.

April: Are you in denial at seeing magic? You're little tricks, magician, won't help you.

Yn: Care to bet on it, sorceress?

April:(mind) This man is seemingly famous... I could use him to get away before killing him so he doesn't reveal magic to the world.

April:(smile) Very well.. magician. I'll humor you.

April: When I win, you will live to help me escape.

Yn: Oh, I'm good at escaping!

Yn: But, when I win... Hmm...

He looks at the two women.

Yn:(devilish smirk) Hmm.

Eda: You get the scroll?

Yn: No.

Yn: Red-haired woman. You said something about this other lady's life was now yours.

Yn: Was that poor wording or something more.

Eda:... We mages entered into a contract. I lost, so my life belongs to her.

Yn: Perfect!

Eda/April:?

Yn: When I defeat you, your and her life will belong to me. And the two of you will become my assistants!

Eda/April:!?

Yn: Let us perform this contract!

April: That's not how it works. Both parties must be able to use magic to perform "con-rule"-

Two contracts appeared from thin air. One floated in front of the magician and the other, in front of the mage.

Eda/April: WHAT!?

Yn: Whoooo...

April: Give me that!

Grabbing the contract, April began reading it, in hopes it contained a bit of information about how Yn was able to qualify for a contract.

April:(reading intensely)

Yn:... Do I sign it?

Eda: Uhh. Yes... Well...

Eda:(mind) Is this real...?

Yn: Hello? Is it a yes or "well"?

Eda: All you have to really do, is place some blood on the area where the signature goes...

Yn: Thank you... And sorry about bonking you with my hat.

Taking out a pen, he pricks his finger and drops some blood on the contract causing it to disappear.

He then approaches April.

April: Ugh! Forget it. I don't have time for this!

Placing some blood on the contract, it disappears and the battle has officially begun.

April:(mind) This guy has no magic, I know it. Summoning that Con-rule took way too much mana...

April:(mind) which means, unlike when it takes a fair bit from both sides to activate, it just took from me.

April:(mind) That could only happen if he had nothing to take. Damn... I only have enough for one spell.

April:(mind) More than enough to take out one Normie.

Smugly staring at the magician, April raises her hand to cast a spell and quickly end this madness.

Yn:(smirk)

Pulling his middle and index finger across the brim of his hat, Yn the impossible man then slaps the brim, making his hat flip off his head.

April: "Fir-g"-

(Ba-boom)

The hat then exploded out a gust of smoke towards April, not only shocking her enough to stop her from completing her incantation but blinding her.

April: What the hell-(cough)(cough)!?

Stumbling back out of the smoke, she bumps into Yn.

April: How did you-

Yn:(smirks) Magic.

He punches her across the face, knocking her to the floor.

And since she wasted her remaining mana on that spell she was unable to complete, Yn was the victor which Eda and April were both able to sense, for it was as if a contract for them to be his assistants was being made with their souls.

April:(shocked) Nononon! This is bullshit! Absolute bullshit!!

Eda: Impossible... Who is this man?

Yn: Didn't you read the sign?

Yn: I'm Phoenix the impossible. The one who does...(smiles) The impossible.
