Yang & Weiss
When Yang told Weiss that they should play with a ouija board she assumed she was kidding.
When Yang brought out a ouija board when she jokingly told her 'sure', Weiss knew this was going to be a bad idea.
Yang placed the board on the carpeted floor of the living room and smiled devilishly at Weiss.
"You wanna go first Ice Queen?"
Weiss shook her head. "As if, you oaf!"
Yang laughed and placed the planchette on the board. "Either way, we both have to put our finger on it," Yang told her.
"Can I put my middle finger on it?"
"No, you cannot flip off the spirits, Weiss. It has to be your pointer finger."
Grumbling in protest, Weiss complied and placed her index finger on the planchette. She held in the laugh when seeing the comparison between her tiny finger and Yang's larger one.
"Oh, I almost forgot! The candles!"
Weiss rolled her eyes as Yang collected 5 black candles and placed them in the shape of a star around the board.
"Yang, if we summon a demon, I'm killing you," Weiss groaned.
"I think the demon might beat you to it," Yang replied with a wink.
She sat back down after lighting the candles and placed her finger on the planchette.
With the lights off and only the candles to illuminate the room, long and morbid shadows were cast upon the walls.
Yang's face was covered in shadow, her violet eyes just slightly brighter than the rest of her.
Unsettled, Weiss shifted her position and looked up at Yang.
"Are you going to start or not?"
Yang laughed and nodded. "Sure. Yo, spirits, any of my homies here tonight?" Yang yelled with a big grin.
Weiss sighed. "Yang, if ghosts are real, In sure you just offended them," she said flatly.
"Whatever. I'll be all serious now," Yang groaned. "Are there any spirits here with us tonight?"
Weiss's eyes widened when the planchette moved to a word.
YES.
After getting over a second of shock, Weiss glared at Yang. "How creative, Yang. That definitely doesn't happen in every horror movie!"
Yang blinked in confusion. "What do you mean? Do you think I moved it?"
"Uh, yeah!" Weiss said. "Little pieces of wood don't just move on their own!"
"It's a ouija board, a spirit had to have moved it," Yang explained. When she realized what she said, her eyes widened. "That means someone is here with us."
"Stop trying to freak me out Yang!" Weiss scolded. Still, she couldn't help the shivering cold that was creeping up her spine.
"I'm not going to argue with you. Hello, spirit!" Yang said enthusiastically.
Hello hello.
"My name is Yang, and this is Weiss Schnee," Yang said. "Why'd you tell the spirit my full name?!" Weiss whispered. "I thought you said there wasn't a spirit," Yang teased. Weiss glared at her. "Her name is Yang Xiao Long," Weiss said angrily.
Yang shrugged and went back to the board. "What's your name?" she asked.
I have many names.
"Real creative Yang."
Yang, ignoring Weiss, asked, "Can you tell us one of them?"
ABYZOU.
"What kind of name is that?!" Yang asked. When the planchette didn't move, Weiss took the initiative: "Well, this has been fun and all, but I'm a bit tired of your tricks, Yang."
As she started to get up, the planchette quickly flicked over to a single word.
NO.
"Sorry Yang, but I'm leaving," Weiss said, starting to get frustrated. "I didn't do that!" Yang insisted.
The planchette pointed to 'No' again, and then spun in a figure-8 motion.
NO.
"Yang, what are you doing? You're freaking me out!" Weiss yelled. A slight breeze crept through the room, making Weiss's teeth chatter.
The shadows on the wall took terrifying shapes; monsters and demons, silhouettes of mangled corpses.
"It's not me!" Yang yelled in terror, and Weiss believed her. The two stared at the shadows in terror, wanting this to end, but they knew that they couldn't take their finger off the planchette; that would be a catastrophe.
The candles went out with the sound of someone blowing them, and the house was swept into darkness.
Weiss felt a hand grip hers tightly; she knew from the warmth that it was Yang's.
Hand-in-hand, the two of them sat in the pressing silence, suspense building in their heads.
"Yang...I don't like this," Weiss whispered.
"Me neither," Yang whispered back.
Yang gave her hand an affectionate squeeze, making Weiss smile. Yang couldn't see the smile, of course, but she could feel it.
Making Weiss smile was a challenge, and Yang was always up for it.
Always....
"Weiss," Yang whispered.
"What?"
There was a pause, followed by a deep breath. "I've...uh...been keeping something from you," Yang responded.
"What is it?"
"I...,"
I can't do it, Yang thought. I don't think I can say it.
The silence was mortifying. "Yang?" Weiss whispered. She heard Yang shift, and was relieved to know that she was okay. "Yang, you can tell me. I won't be mad."
"I...like you, Weiss."
"Yeah, I know. We are friends, after all. I thought it would be something-"
"No, Weiss. I mean...in the way that you like Neptune."
Now it was Weiss who was silent. "Oh," she managed to croak out.
Yang hung her head, silently scolding herself.
Stupid stupid stupid! Of course she doesn't like you! She's STRAIGHT! Ugh, and here I thought I could have what Ruby and Blake have.
The candles flickered back on.
The warm fire light filled the room.
The planchette moved again:
Child. Child. Child. Child.
The sound of babies crying could be fairy heard, slowly getting louder and louder.
Yang looked over at Weiss, in all her beauty; she was looking back, tears magnifying the blue of her eyes.
"Yang...Do you know how to stop this?" Weiss pleaded.
Yang nodded slowly, almost not wanting this to end.
I'll do it for her.
Yang cleared her throat, ready to sound confident. "Goodbye, Abyzou," she said loudly, clearly, and confidently.
Everything stopped at once, and the lights came back on. The candles went out, and the two took their fingers off the planchette.
"Is it...over?" Weiss asked. Yang snorted and chuckled. "Really? That's such an overused quote!" She said.
"Shut up!" Weiss said, and that both laughed.
The laughter soon died, and they sat together in an awkward silence.
"So....," Yang said.
"Yeah....Listen, Yang. About what you said..."
Yang looked away.
"You don't have to say anything. Just pretend it never happened," Yang said quietly.
~~~
Weiss threw at pillow at Yang. "Wake up, you dolt! Your phone has been ringing for two minutes!"
Yang awoke with a start and looked around wildly. "What....Oh, wow. Guess I shouldn't eat cake before I sleep," Yang said with a shaky laugh.
Weiss rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, that was my cake. By the way, answer your phone!"
And with that Weiss left.
Yang answered her phone and heard Blake's voice. After hearing their situation, Yang was ready to help them out, but a crash came from outside.
"Oh, shit! Gotta call you back!"
Yang went out into the hallway and saw Weiss had knocked over Blake's favorite flower vase.
"Oh no...." Weiss moaned.
Yang smiled, admiring the clumsiness of the beauty.
I can't tell her how I feel. Not today.
That was rushed at the end...but oh well. Honestly I accidentally turned this into a prequel to my Freezerburn story. Don't think too hard about it.
