Ruby & Blake

The willows screamed as the wind blew through them, their branches flailing like a dying animal. The air was cold, chilling the kid to the bone.

Well, not just kids.

"Ruby! Slow down!" Blake yelled. The energetic redhead rushed forward with a laugh, stopping in front of a house's gate a few yards away.

"Come on, Blake! You're soooo slow! I thought cats were supposed to be quick?" she teased. Blake sighed and reached Ruby, who was grinning wildly.

We have to be the only two college students that are ACTUALLY trick-or-treating, Blake thought.

Blake hadn't wanted to go trick-or-treating. Even when she was a child she didn't find it all that fun. It was just...an excuse to hide. While she could've used the hiding in high school, she didn't anymore. She was proud that she was a Faunus, and she didn't care what racist remarks about her were made.

Halloween had become more of a nuisance to her now; either having to deal with crazy parties and crazier classmates at college, or with hyperactive kids and passing out candy at home with her parents.

When she started dating Ruby, however, she was very suddenly brought back into the world of Halloween. The redhead absolutely loved Halloween (she loved any holiday, really) and always wanted to go out trick-or-treating. It was a good thing that she looks like a high schooler, or else it would look really weird to see a college student collecting candy from neighborhood homes.

"And I thought we were past the ages of associating black cats with witches," Blake responded, commenting of the costume that Ruby had picked out for her.

The costume consisted of black leather hat designed like a witch's. She also wore a plain black dress that reached her ankles, where he wore black heels. Yes, an over amount of black had been applied, but Blake hadn't minded that aspect. Blake had added in her own touch by adding a necklace with a bright red ruby as a pendant. The dress had a transparent fabric to cover her back, failing to do much against the cold or the teenage boys who stopped to stare at the exposed skin.

Overall, the appearance was attractive and formal, giving off an air of regality.

Ruby, on the other hand, was dressed as a pirate. Why she wanted to be that of all things, Blake could never figure out. Ruby tended to do unpredictable things.

It wasn't some form of feminine pirate either, oh no, it was the whole stereotypical male pirate; eyepatch, large hat, parrot, hook--The works.

"I already told you Blake, it's ironic in that way! Besides, you look beautiful in it," Ruby complimented. Blake cracked a small smile, filling Ruby with pride in the fact that she was the one to make her smile.

"Whatever, Ruby. Let's just hit this house and then continue on," Blake said. Ruby nodded and ran up to the house's door.

After knocking and collecting the candy, the pair continued down the line of houses. Many parents of elementary-age children gave them angry looks, and their thoughts were too obvious: Adults should NOT be trick-or-treating!

While Blake agreed, she knew it made Ruby happy. In return to those looks, Blake would glare right on back, letting them know how she felt about their opinions.

After stopping by all the houses in the neighborhood, the two stopped by Blake's car. "We should check on Yang and Weiss. Make sure they're not getting into any trouble," Blake said, pulling out her phone. Ruby agreed, and Blake dialed them up.

When there was no answer, Blake tried again.

No answer.

Sighing in exasperation, Blake put her phone away. "Not picking up?" Ruby asked. Blake shook her head. "It's fine. Let's just go back to the house. I'm sure they'll be back soon."

The two got into the car. Blake put the key in the ignition, but the car wouldn't turn on. She tried again, but to no avail. After a couple of more tries, she determined they were out of gas.

"That sucks. How will we get back?" Ruby asked. "We'll have to wait for Yang to finally call us back, then have them pick us up," Blake said.

Ruby nodded and looked out the window at all the passing kids. Sensing something was up, Blake asked her what was wrong.

Ruby shook her head stayed quiet.

"Ruby...come on, tell me. You know you can tell me anything," Blake comforted.

Ruby looks at her, eyes large and full of solemn. "It's just...Halloween is my favorite holiday, but...don't you think I'm getting a little too old for this?" she asked.

Blake blinked in surprise. Ruby never thought she was too old for anything. She basically acted like a child all the time, so why would she think this?

"Well, I don't think anything really has an age limit," Blake replied, choosing her words carefully.

"But...well, you saw the looks that we got. All those people thought we were weird, just because I was trick-or-treating. Maybe my days of Halloween fun are just over, and I need to accept it," Ruby lamented.

Blake sat in silence, trying to think of what to say. How could she make Ruby happy again? Tell her she was wrong? But...what if she's not wrong?

"Ruby...," Blake started, but trailing off at the end.

"Ruby," she said, more confidently this time. "I don't care what looks we get. I...I love you for you, and I don't care what anyone else thinks," Blake said.

Ruby looked at her with wide eyes.

"Blake...," she started but then covered her face and started shaking in sob-like motions.

Is she crying?!

"Ruby, don't cry, I didn't mean to make you cry!" Blake put her hand on Ruby's shoulder, but she looked up. Ruby was not crying, but giggling.

Blake smirked. "Alright, why are you laughing?"

"Because, you finally said that you love me," Ruby said with a smile.

"Th-that it? It's not that funny," Blake said with a laugh.

"Haha! It's ok, Blake. I love you too," Ruby said.

Before Blake could react, Ruby leaned in and gave her a quick peck on the lips.

Blake blushed a bright red, her lips tingling. Ruby smile and sat back in her seat, just as Blake's phone rang.

"Hello?" Blake asked.

"Blake, why'd you call?" Yang asked on the other end.

"Oh, Yang! Thank god you answered! My car is out of gas, we need you to pick us up."

There was a pause, and then Yang came back on.

"Yeah, uh...Weiss and I can't leave the house at the moment. Can you just call a tow truck?"

"Why?" Blake asked, and then as heads a loud crash on the other end.

"Shit! Blake, I'll have to call you back. And for the record, I am not the one who broke your favorite flower vase."

Yang hung up, leaving Blake and Ruby in an uncomfortable silence.

"Those two...need to calm down," Ruby said tiredly.

Blake laughed. "You're right. I'm going to call a tow truck, I feel like we have a long night ahead of us.

~~~
Well, I got that done. I just felt the need to write a quick little story for these two! But what do you is going on with Yang and Weiss? I have a feeling none of you will guess what is happening!
