Chapter 1 Lucky Escape

The sun rose slowly above the savanna giving the warmth to everyone and everything. The light touching everything on the land signalling a brand new day. Birds of all kind chirp among the trees two of them being Ono and Anga, patrolling the skies early in the morning. Ono's eye sight was getting better everyday, objects left and right render in clearer than a few years ago. Flying high above tree tops the two Day Pride protesters continue on their journey back towards the tree to give their report to Rani who was sleeping. She's been having good nights lately, the patrols have been better especially after giving birth to three amazing cubs, Karla, Carlos and Rafi. Karla was named after Kion's sister Kiara. Rafi was named after the wise old mandrill Rafiki and Carlos was named by Askari. Askari's brother was named Carlos who died due to natural causes.  All the cubs got along well.  Well apart from Karla, she was adventurous, like her father Kion. She always wanted to be on top, be the leader of everything, like her mother Rani. Telling her brothers what to do and to keep them from getting into mischief. But I guess that's what sisters do. Being the second oldest, by a few  seconds, Karla wished she was like Carlos who was a few seconds off really. They were all the same litter and only ten seconds off from each other. Rafi didn't mind, he liked being the young one. More attention and more love from the other animals in the Tree Of Life. He was also adorable, Karla and Carlos was too, but Carlos had a little bit of Kion's mane showing. Making him cuter. Rafi had a dark skin colour, same with Karla, with a light underfur and a clear cut around her head. Carlos had a lighter skin, lighter than Kion's but as he grows Carlos fur will darken.

Fuli and Azaad also had cubs of their own. But only one. Happy with that sometimes they'll play with each other. Her name was Tufa. Meaning speed. Hopefully she'll have the same strength as her mother as she grows up. She was younger than everyone else but only by a few months. Karla liked having another female to talk and play with. While the adults go on patrol the kids would either get looked after by Makini and of course Mufasa looking down or hang out around the tree by them selves. Sometimes baby sitting would be hard, when Fuli and Azaad go on small dates Rani and Kion looked after them and vise versa for Kion and Rani. Fuli didn't mind kids, she loved her own and Kion's but found it hard to keep them all together. The boys wanted to go explore the world while the girls wanted to go to the mud pool or even go learn about the past and so Azaad would look after Carlos and Rafi, taking them on wonderful trips around the land. Fuli would take her girls to the mud pool where they'll relax and talk, stories and facts about the past. Tufa wasn't like her mother, Fuli hated the wet, mud or anything that's liquid, I guess she gets her adventurous side from Azaad. Although Azaad didn't mind the water Tufa loved it. Always trying to get Fuli wet they would get all wet and purposely shake of the water next to her, Fuli thought it was funny, an accident for the first few times but as it continued Fuli had to get back at them. So Fuli thought of a plan to get them back, meanwhile Azaad and the boys saw amazing landscapes, valley's and animals, they were respective and kind towards the animals, as a treat for behaving Azaad would take them up to the place where Kion trained and look over the valley, Kion told them not to go there since it was too dangerous but Azaad broke those rules a few time. Secretly heading up and admiring the view.

Present

"Keep an eye out, breath, remain calm and judge the wind, tracks and your surroundings, never let your guard down and always keep an eye out to your prey", Karla was learning how to hunt for the first time in her life, getting all the lessons from yours truly Kion, Karla loved being out in the open with her father. She loved nature and wouldn't hurt a fly but this was different, this was survival lesions. They would always practise the stance, the leap and take down once a week and she couldn't wait, always begging with her cute kitty eyes Karla would always nag Kion to go hunting or even go explore the savanna. This time was different, the sun was setting and the temperature was still hot. The first for the evening. It was just the two of them and a target practise, a small hard oak wood log that had sharp claw marks all over it. Set in an open field, the long wheat grass shone in the sunlight, the golden grains and stems blowing among the clam swift wind. This day the wind was blowing east and so Karla had to readjust her position. Not making a sound, as quite as a mouse Karla took in what her father was saying,
"tense up but remain calm. Focus on your prey and never loose it. Remember, it'll be your dinner so you have to work hard, breath, once you feel that your prey is clueless that's when you strike, take your position", Karla took her position, her front legs bent and her back arched, her tail lowered to make sure her target couldn't see it. She squinted her eyes and focuses, her small claws unsheathed and she got ready,
"NOW", Karla pranced upwards and her teeth flaring in the evening sun, it looked like she got scared as she jumped. She leaped a good metre of the ground before crashing down on the beaten up wood. " Great job sweety, your getting there, but when you leap you need to make sure your back legs push upwards, it'll give you that extra strength and height but overall your attack was great", " Thanks daddy", Proud of herself she walked away towards the tree to boast it to her brothers, acting like she was strong and brave she held her head high and shoulders close to her body.

" She is getting very good", Kion was oblivious to the voice that was near. " Oh yes, yes she is", Rani made her way next to Kion and rubbed her head under Kion's chin. They hugged for a while before breaking apart.
"How was your day?", Rani asked as she started to clean herself," Not bad, the zebras migrated to the west side and the paths have been cleared, apart from that pretty chill, you?", Rani stopped licking her paw and thought,
"Not much activity for me, although me and the girls went for a small mud pool gather earlier today, took a nap and just went hunting", Kion's stomach starting to grumble as he asked what she caught." oh just got us some wild pig", " ooh, sounds great", Kion zoned out as he looked into the horizon, the sun just setting beyond the tree which sat there, the sun rays penetrating through the dense leaves, vines and the branches. Karla was just making it to the entrance, her energy can be felt from miles away and just sitting there made Kion happy, " Our kids are good aren't they", Rani broke the silence as Kion turned his attention back towards his queen. " yeah, they sure are", Kion smiled, clearly something got to him from the inside and Rani saw it. She tried making it positive, " you know, last year you were nearly dead, if it wasn't for Queen Kass and her pack you wouldn't be here, the kids wouldn't be here", Kion took it in and remembered waking up from what seemed a long time.
" No, if it wasn't for you I wouldn't be here. My life wouldn't exist and our kids wouldn't have a life in the circle", Rani started to tear up and so Kion hugged her, they embraced for a while, taking in what surrounded them. " What a life we are living, all of this makes me appreciate what I have, especially having you by my side, that I will never loose nor forget... I love you", Kion kissed Rani on her cheek, he focused his attention back towards their humble home. Rani hasn't heard those three words for a while, but understandably because they were all busy getting ready for the memorable next week. To mark the one year anniversary of the victory over the great evil. The day Kion was feared to die and of course the day Yassain was killed. Respecting and remembering the fallen who fought hard. Sacrificing their life for the greater good. They broke apart and headed back to the tree to have dinner and be a family. It was a lucky escape for Kion in the end.
