Part 34- The invitation

SHAWN

It was still pretty early, but Shawn was already awake. In fact, he hadn't had much sleep the night before. He'd spent half the night watching Rosaly sleep. She'd been agitated a lot in her sleep, and she'd changed her position several times, as if she was being chased away by bad dreams.

He felt the anger take over once more. It should be forbidden for girls like Rosaly to go through so many difficult times. She was so incredible, and she didn't deserve to be treated by life like that. He touched her face lightly, taking care not to wake her. Rosaly sighed and snuggled closer to him, as if even unconscious she sought protection in Shawn's arms. The serious expression on his face softened. Looking at her so helplessly made hiis heart tender. He loved her and would do anything to keep Rosaly from suffering again.

He needed to do something to change that situation. He still didn't know what he would do, but he wouldn't stand still while Rosaly had to defend herself on all sides to stay on her feet. She was so brave and so wonderful, and every day he admired her more. He had met many girls, but few as valuable as Rosaly. She was precious to him, like a rare and delicate jewel, and to think that she had been treated so badly by someone as hateful as her fiancé, left Shawn out of it.

He got up and decided to make coffee. Rosaly was always the first to get up, but that day he decided to let her sleep, because after all the tension she had gone through the day before Rosaly must have been exhausted. When he was finishing preparing the toast, Rosaly appeared in the kitchen, hugged him by the waist and said:

- Good morning. Looks like you are busy. -She watched the table set for breakfast with all the ingredients she used every day.

- I thought it would be a good idea to contribute to the breakfast. - He smiled at her.

- Thank you. Your coffee looks delicious.

- I tried to prepare it the Brazilian way, as you taught me.- Rosaly sat down at the table and served herself some coffee. She took the cup to her lips and enjoyed a good sip.

-It's wonderful. - She praised it.

-You mean I'm approved?

- Fully. - Rosaly laughed at the expression of joy that crossed his face.

Soon he sat down with her at the table for breakfast, and waited for her to address what had happened the night before, but she seemed in no hurry to talk about it. He decided to start talking about it, because they needed to figure out what they would do about it.

- Rosely, I don't think it's a good idea for you to keep working on the Weekend while this guy is still there. He proved he can't be trusted, and who can guarantee that what happened here yesterday won't happen again? - he watched her get tense and her hands shake for a second, but when he spoke his voice sounded firm.

- I already told you Shawn, I don't want him to get hurt. Besides, it was the first time he did that. John had never disrespected me before. - Shawn sighed at Rosaly's stubbornness to continue defending John.

- I don't trust him, Rosely. Shawn realized that Rosaly had misunderstood his comment from the expression he saw on her face, so he hurried to explain. - It's not jealousy, Rosely. I'm afraid he's gonna hurt you. What if I'm not around if he tries that again? - Rosaly realizing his concern, held his hand and said he shouldn't worry because it wouldn't happen again.

And suddenly she was in his arms, their bodies too close. That tempting mouth of hers that took his concentration away was an inch from his. God, how he wanted to kiss her, but he controlled himself, for they had to finish that conversation.

- I don't know what I would do if someone hurt you. I feel terrible just thinking about it. - he hugged her harder, sucking the scent out of her hair that had already become his favorite odor. He felt Rosaly's small, delicate hands on his face as she said:

- Stop worrying, Shawn. I'm fine and I'm here.- she put her lips on his, and her kisses were like honey on his mouth. He needed to feel her whole, so he held her even closer to his body, all his senses more and more aware of the softness of her skin. His tongues met in a frantic dance of desire. Shawn knew he was lost, no longer had control over his emotions.

So Rosaly walked away from him, just as he was about to lose his mind. So she said she'd take a shower and get ready, because she wanted to fix everything right away.

- Do you want company?- He had said, just to provoke her, but Rosaly hadn't accepted, saying she knew exactly what Shawn had in mind. And so it wasn't a good idea, and he would only serve as a distraction to her.

-Oh, you mean I'm distracting you? -Shawn kept provoking her.

- Quite. - He heard her admit it, and then Rosaly took it seriously. Her eyes caught fire, as if she were in a fierce battle with herself. Shawn asked amusingly:

- Are you, by any chance, planning a murder?

-,what? - Rosaly asked in amazement at the question.

- You were looking at me with such a ferocious look that you were trying to imagine who you'd like to murder if you could," he explained with a playful smile.

- Not you for sure. - Rosaly answered playfully, too, and then declared that she was going to the shower while Shawn yelled at her if she really didn't want his company, but she declined his insinuation again.

While Rosaly was showering, Shawn took the opportunity to get ready, too. He returned to the room, and Rosaly showed up soon enough. They left right after to go to the Weekend. Though Rosaly tried to stay calm, Shawn knew she was nervous. He was glad that week he was free, so she could give Rosaly more attention and support.

At that instant, Rosaly asked her to put in one of his songs, and since he knew which song she liked, he had put in If I can't have you, and he immediately saw her face change. Her eyes sparkled, as if she had completely removed the tension that took over her body. At a few moments, Shawn intertwined his fingers in hers, trying to give her all the security he could. And in response she smiled gratefully at him.

As they arrived at the Weekend, Rosaly asked him to wait for her in the parking lot, and Shawn asked before she got out of the car:

- Don't you really want me to go with you? but, she answered that she would solve everything by herself. At that moment, Shawn saw how much strength she had inside. Her apparent weakness was deceptive. Rosaly was a girl who hated showing weakness. It wasn't pride, it was just the way she was. She didn't like to be dependent, let alone let them fix things for her. Rosaly never ran away from problems, even if they were too much for her. She had spent a lot of time in the hands of a man who had made her discredit everything, but now she had her own life under control, so she wouldn't allow anyone to invade her space again.

Shawn saw her walk into the diner with her head held high, and once again he felt proud of her, but he still couldn't help but worry. He stayed inside the car impatiently, waiting for Rosaly to return. Shawn almost went looking for her, but he knew Rosaly would be angry, yet he imagined her alone dealing with that creep, and he felt a pressure on his chest that took away his air.

After a wait that seemed to him to last an eternity, Rosaly returned. For a moment he had the impression that she seemed lost, then she walked towards him and he had noticed that she was crying. At the same moment he had got out of the car and she had thrown herself into his arms. Worried, Shawn had asked:

- What happened, Rosely? "Did that scumbag hurt you? She shook her head vigorously, and then he let her cry, putting out her sadness. But with every hiccup Rosaly sobbed, his heart seemed to break, and Shawn promised himself that this was the last time he would see Rosaly cry like that. After a while, she stopped crying and told him everything that had happened in John's office. Then, with sad eyes, she asked:

- Why does it always seem like I'm running from something, Shawn? I'm so tired of having to leave the things I love the most behind. Why does it seem like my destiny is to live that way? - she had said

- Don't be like that, Rosely. Everything will get better, you'll see

-. You're not gonna leave me, are you? - I couldn't bear it if I lost you - how could he leave her if he loved her more than anything? he thought. He could never leave her life, otherwise he would die of pain. To calm her down he said with all his usual sincerity;

- Never my love. I will always be here for you. - he stroked her hair while Rosaly hid her face on his shoulder. After a while he had asked:

-"Shall we go home?" and she agreed, still a little sad, but her countenance wasn't so heavy.

As he took Rosaly home, Shawn remembered that he hadn't talked to her about her mother's invitation. However, he thought it best to leave it until later, because at that moment he just wanted to stand next to Rosaly and prove to her that he would always be next to her, and no matter what the circumstances.
