Chapter 5- The dance
SHAWN and ROSALY
Rosaly looked at herself in the mirror, and checking her appearance for the last time, before the presentation. She had braided her long hair, adorning it with a silver ribbon, her eyes were covered with eyeliner, giving her an exotic look and her lips were painted red, matching the color of her dance clothes. She was ready and just had to wait until they called her to start the show. She wasn't nervous, as she had performed so many times when she lived in Brazil that such events were common to her, even though it was the first time she danced in Canada for a bunch of rich people and their escorts.
She looked at herself again in the mirror, but her eyes stared at her reflection without seeing it. Her thoughts went far away, exactly to the beginning of that morning when she saw the strange guy in the coat, and the black hood that watched her from afar. She felt the fear turn her bowels and make her tense. Had Caio hired a detective to find her? Did he suspect that she now lived in Vancouver?
She knew that if he wanted to, he could pay the best detective in Brazil, because his dollar-filled bank account gave him the funds he needed to do whatever he wanted, against which she couldn't do anything; she was tired, exhausted from running away. She wanted to go home and start her life over again from scratch, without having the surprise of meeting Caio on one of the corners that she walked around every day. She had to end it or she could never live in peace again, and even if she decided to live in Canada forever, she wanted to make sure she was safe.
Unexpectedly, Dr. Mystery's face to appear in her memories, and Rosaly moved in the chair where she was sitting feeling uncomfortable. That incident at the Weekend that same afternoon had messed with her a lot, she couldn't deny it. He remembered his voice when he made his order, and the way he held her close to his body, preventing her from falling off had a strange effect on her, making her wonder why she felt that way.
The truth was that ever since she first noticed him at the diner, she had been intrigued. Who could he be? She thought maybe he was a businessman, an actor or something connected to music. He looked young, so she couldn't say he was a tycoon who owned one of Vancouver's many shopping malls. But the fact was that Rosaly had seen him all week sitting in the same place with his headset, and muscular arms.
Realizing the kind of thought she had, Rosaly severely censured herself. Was it possible that she was so interested in unraveling the secrets of Dr. Mystery that she had even had time to concentrate on his body? But Rosaly couldn't deny that she was quite impressed, and that she also couldn't help but notice the beauty of the facial features, the sensuality of the smile, and she only wished he would take off his sunglasses so she could see what color his eyes were.
- Rosely, are you ready? Norah, one of your students came in asking.
- Yes, I am. - she answered.
- Wow, you look wonderful! I wish I had all these curves that you have. Maybe my husband would look at me more often.
- Come on, Norah. You're beautiful in your own way. - Rosaly said, looking at the tall, thin, blue-eyed girl. - Do you remember what I told you? The dancing is to give you confidence, and make you look at yourself with different eyes. When you start to think you're beautiful, other people will admire you too.
- Thank you for the words Rosely. I'll always try to remember that. So, shall we?
- Yes - both of them went out and met the other girls who would participate in the dance.
Shawn had just arrived and had already been surrounded by several people, who wanted to greet him and talk to him. There were people of all kinds, actors, dancers, singers, models. Luckily the press had been kept away from the event hall, being only allowed to take pictures of the entrance or exit of the celebrities, giving the opportunity for those who were there to enjoy the party in peace.
He had come alone, and this did not go unnoticed to the girls who were there behind a companion to ensure the end of the night, attracted by their elegant dress in a black tuxedo, this costume that the party demanded.
- Hi, Shawn. - Brian greeted him effusively, saving him from the gaze of a brunette girl who seemed indecisive between walking to him or staying where she was.
- Hi, Brian. The party is a success..
- It's true. Did you see how many girls there are here? You can even choose from several of them to take home.
- Brian, you're still the same scoundrel as ever. - Shawn said, patting his friend on the shoulder. Brian was notoriously famous as Don Juan, for he collected women like Shawn collected cars, and he was never caught by the cupid of love.
- I just have to warn you that Kathy is here.
- I can't believe she made it. - Shawn spoke looking suspicious to Brian.
- Hey, don't look at me like that. I didn't give her any invitation.
- So, how did she get here?
- Kathy showed up hanging from a movie hotshot's arm. I wonder what she had to do to get it - Brian said looking at Shawn.
- I don't care if she had to sleep with half of Vancouver to be here tonight. I took her out of my life and heart a long time ago. -Shawn responded.
- That's good to know that . Here comes my father, the true king of the party. - Brian said with a hard expression on his face.
- Good night, Shawn, are you having fun? - Mr. Fox asked, shaking Shawn's hand firmly.
- Yes, I am. - he lied.
- Great, let's have a dance performance now. Please enjoy. - and left Brian and Shawn alone.
- Umm... I love dancers. - Brian said.
- You love anything that wear skirts. - Shawn answered his friend's comment.
Then one of Brian's father's advisors came in and said something about the dance that would be performed. Several girls dressed as odaliscas took their place in the specified place.
- Belly dancing? This time my father managed to impress me. - Brian said smiling.
At first, Shawn wasn't very excited, perhaps just a little curious, but as the dance evolved, and the movements became more intense, his interest increased considerably.
As he watched the dancers move around the hall during the Arabic music, his eyes were attracted to a particular dancer. She was more beautiful than all the others, because she had a different physical constitution from the other girls who danced. She wore a red, mermaid-style skirt that shaped her rounded hips adorned with a belt full of shiny stones. The sides of the skirt were emptied, showing beautiful legs. Her belly was smooth with no sign of fat, the waist was so thin that gave Shawn the impression that it would fit in his hands, and the beauty of the bust was adorned by a bustier richly embroidered with red sequins and stones. She turned around and Shawn could see the threads of her face highlighted by a strong makeup that made her even more interesting. A single braid bound her hair, where a silver ribbon intertwined each strand.
Shawn saw the girl move her hips from side to side, weave her belly, and move her hands as delicate as the choreography charm, beauty and grace. They were movements made to seduce and he was already seduced. He never thought that only a hip movement would excite him. Now she looked forward, her eyes focused on the audience that watched her fascinated, Shawn felt her gaze cling to hers, and when she turned her hip back and forth, he lacked the air and he had to loosen the tie he wore to be able to breathe better. Who would she be? Where did she come from? She didn't seem to be Canadian, because her curved body denounced another nationality. He was also not Arab, he was sure, because her face had traces softer than the Arab women that he had known in his travels on the Asian Continent, maybe she was Spanish or Colombian, he could not say. But the truth was that. It didn't matter where she had come from, because she had managed to impress him in a way that no other girl could, and he wanted and needed to meet her.
A lot of applause finally over, followed the dance. Shawn saw the dancers thank everyone that had watched their dance, and walk out the same door they entered. He tried to follow them, but he was stopped by Mr. Fox who insisted on introducing him to some businessmen, who wanted him as a poster boy for their brands.
When he managed to get rid of them, the girls had already left, so he went to talk to Brian to see if he could get any information about the mysterious dancer.
- Brian, do you know where your father hired those dancers?
- Not why?
- It's just out of curiosity. - Shawn answered.
- You were interested, weren't you? I knew there was still hope for old Shawn. - Brian said provoking his friend.
- Brian, sometimes you talk too much. - Shawn said, shaking his head, then continued. Well, I have to go now.
- Aren't you going to stay for dinner? - Brian asked disappointed.
- No, I'm tired. I've had a full day. Say goodbye to your father for me.
- See you later. I'll call you to set something up.
Shawn marched to the exit, ending his participation in that tedious event. The only positive point was the belly dance where he had been enchanted by the sexiest girl he'd ever met. As he got into the car and turned the key to start the it, Shawn only thought of that girl who he did not even know the name. He would find her, he just didn't know how yet.
