Chapter 17
Killian covers his warm hand over my mouth and with his other hand lays his pointer over his own lips. I'm only half panicked as I've been in worse situations with Neal by my side. He's waiting like he knows the exact moment it will be safe to run. He pulls his finger off his lips and mouths, "Now."
We both as quietly as we can slip up the stairs. We hear a man shouting from the bow of the boat as Killian had taught me. Both of us run jumping over the gap between the boat and the dock.
Our feet ponds hard on the wooden deck as we rush off of it and onto the pavement of the lot. We separate as we approach his car he pulled open his door and I do the same on the passenger side. We both get in the car breathing heavily as we prepare to leave.
Killian peels out of the spot and I jolt back in my seat. His tires squeal as we fishtail out of the lot. After a minute Killian pulls over near a wooded area and puts the car in park. We both look at each other, I'm gripping the sides of my seat. Running like that when I was with Neal never felt thrilling, it always felt like work. A smile crosses his face and we both break out into laughter that fills the entire car with a sound I haven't heard in a long time.
"See, told you today's adventure wouldn't land you in jail," he teases.
"That was ... such a rush," I say running a hand through my hair.
Killian watches me closely.
"Not like I want to go down a dark road of stealing and breaking into places, but that.." I laugh.
His brow raises at me.
"Most girls would have probably killed me the second I pulled the car over, you're different Swan," he says.
"Good different or bad?" I ask running another hand through my hair.
"It's good Emma, really good."
After our little run in with the man in the boat Killian brings me back to school. He told me on the way over he has another class to teach with Mr. Gold. He pulls up right next to my car and cuts the engine. The car is silent, and all I hear is the world going on outside the car around us. Students chatting, car doors closing, engines roaring. I turn to face Killian.
"This was fun Swan, we should do it again sometime," he says.
"Like dinner?" I ask.
"Are you asking me on a date Swan?" he questions.
I laugh, "That depends, are you accepting?"
"Friday night," he says.
"Maybe we'll do things the old fashioned way? Dinner and a movie or something ... maybe we could skip the breaking and entering part?" I tease.
Killian smiles and both of us move closer, our faces meeting in the middle. He tilts his head slightly, his eyes never leaving my face.
"Dinner and a movie, I think that can be arranged," he says licking his lips.
"Okay then, dinner a movie and no trespassing," I smile as our noses touch.
I close my eyes and take a deep breath.
"I promise, no trespassing," he smiles and presses his lips to mine.
It's a quick and gentle kiss, but it leaves me breathless. We part ways and when I get into my bug it takes me a few minutes to compose myself before I actually drive off. I head home and attempt to clear my head of everything that just happened. I can't believe that just happened, that I opened myself up to him, I let him in and now there's no turning back.
I open the apartment door, sitting on the couch is Tink and Ruby. Ruby looks up first and she sees the look on my face. I'm still in a bit of shock from the kiss, and the fact that for the first time in a long time I feel happy.
"Emma, why are your lips so swollen?" she asked wiggling her brows.
"Oh my god!" she says as I put the keys in the bowl.
"You didn't," she says.
Tink shuts the TV off and stands and turns to me like she knows exactly what happened too.
"You look like a teenager in love girl, I want to hear everything," she says. "I take that back, maybe I don't want to know everything," she laughs.
"Good luck with that," Tink says walking towards me.
She lips her ballet flats on her feet and stares at me.
"Killian is not who you think he is, you should be more careful who you give your heart to," she says.
Ruby's mouth hangs open like she's about to tell Tink off, but she closes it again.
"I haven't given my heart to anyone," I protest.
"That's not what that look on your face says, I know that look. I've seen it, done it, and it's not worth it," she says.
"I'm a big girl and I can decide what's worth it and what's not. I'm giving Killian a chance," I say, the words are out before I really think about them.
"Good luck with that, and when he breaks your heart I'll be here to tell you I told you so," she says.
She grabs her jacket off the hook and heads out the door. The door closes with a bang and I jump. Ruby grabs my shoulders.
"Don't listen to her Emma, seriously tell me everything your glowing," she claps happily.
I try not to let Tink's words get to me, but I know it will nag me in the back of my mind. I wonder what she meant by he's not the guy I think he is. I don't have time to think because Ruby is already pulling me to the couch demanding I tell her everything, and I do... well almost everything.
