The next four chapters will be Keith's back story and the fifth one will be the story about when he was still with his birth mother. Enjoy :)

°•°•Eleven years old•°•°

The young child sat in the corner as he followed the playing orphans with his dark eyes. The children squealed as they played a friendly game of tag, the purple eyes stalking their every move from across the room were gleaming in sickening envy. He was an outcast there, doomed to stay alienated from the other children and forced to suffer from the sense of loneliness. The only friends to him were the nuns that cared for them and a young cat that had crossed over the rainbow bridge a few days ago; but that was what Sister Lisa had told him with her kind smile. The kitten had passed from the world in a tragic way, one of the children left the door open wide enough for it to slip outside and get hit by a passing car. All the child had left of the silver tabby named Julie was her black collar he clung to dearly, seeking comfort in it whenever he felt saddened by how he was living. In and out of the foster system, family after family and orphanage after orphanage. He had no permanent place and the other children marked him as an evil spirit who would bring the rest of them bad luck if they talked to him.

A ball gently rolled into the crow haired boy's legs and he looked up to find where the ball had come from; eyes wide with surprise and fear. Fear of the unknown. He met eyes with two giant green ones that reminded him much like grass, the iris's sparkled brightly and showed a spark of curiosity withing them. The owner was a young child no older than eleven much like him but she was blonde with a button nose, and naturally pink lips. He didn't recognize the young child as she waddled over to him in caution, she wore overalls with a plain purple shirt and her long hair was pinned back into two twin tails with scrunchies.

"Your eyes match my shirt!" She exclaimed as she bent down to tower over him with a bright smile.

The young boy turned his head away quietly, he hated girls with a fiery passion. They were nothing but trouble to him, he only knew chaos when it came to those incarnations of the devil himself. "So what." He mumbled and heard her sigh before she sat on her knees beside him in the corner.

"You're weird." She poked his rosy cheek causing him to scowl in annoyance

He swatted her tiny hand from his face and glared at her, "Stop it, don't you know I'm a cursed child?" He grunted before crossing his arms in a huff and puffed his cheeks out in frustration.

She rolled her eyes and pouted, "What even is that? Is it some stupid game you and your stupid siblings play here?" She asked Keith with an attitude.

Keith felt his shoulders sag slightly as he shook his head, "No, I'm not anyone's sibling. No one wants me so I always end up back here at the end of each month."

The girl didn't take a hint that the young boy wished to be alone so she instead prodded his cheek with a bony finger. "That sounds like some sort of cliché storyline where you're the character who's too perfect and has a 'tragic' past." The blonde idiot said 'tragic' in a mocking manner and used air quotes as she stuck out her tongue and rolled her eyes.

"You're the protagonist of your own life Abigail, never judge someone by their past alone or you'll become your own tragic hero." A man walked into the room with a young woman at his arm. "You don't want your flaw to be arrogance and idiocy do you?"

The girl, presumably Abigail, stuck her bottom lip out and lowered her head. "Daaaaaaad." She groaned as she turned around to face him and she stuck her index finger up into the air. "I will never become my own Oedipus Rex."

The boy made a bilious face at the sight of the family near him, the other children however, started to line up with bright smiles on their faces like how the nuns would make them do whenever a couple is looking for one of them to adopt. The man had short cut brown hair and two giant brown eyes that were bright with warmth. The wife at his arm had blonde hair and green eyes much like the girl Abigail beside the boy but instead the woman had freckles decorating her face softly and light rosy cheeks.

"Who's that Abigail?" The woman asked as her eyes lowered onto the clearly upset boy.

Abigail picked her ball up and ran over to her parents quickly before pointing a finger at the child who still sat in the corner, once again alone. "He said he's a cursed child."

"He said what now?" The mother asked in sudden concern as she looked at the quiet child warily.

The boy sighed slightly as the other orphans shifted on their feet slightly. Then Sister Lisa cane in and held a look of horror plastered across her face as she managed to get around the family of three and over to the young boy in which she pulled him to his feet gently. "Keith, you shouldn't tell new families that; it will never help with finding you a new home." She scolded Keith and looked apologetically at the family and then sternly at the kids. "And you all need to stop telling him such lies, god punishes those who lie."

"But we haven't lied Sister! Keith is cursed, he's always returned to us after adoption and his last home was just like that!" Shelby, the youngest girl being three years Keith's junior, refused to be scolded by the older woman in front of her as she slammed her foot down and huffed in anger. "God doesn't punish those who speak only truth!"

Keith stared down at his black shoes and felt outcastes again. No matter how many times the nuns tried to fix the other children's viewpoints on the young boy with black hair, they refused to accept him. "I'm really sorry Mr. and Mrs. Frederickson, I can promise you that these children are just amazing individuals but they're quick to pass judgment...." Sister Lisa sighed as she stood up and walked away from Keith who stood absolutely still.

The man walked over to Keith and kneeled down without paying mind to the other children who stared at him with wide, hopeful eyes of various colors. He placed a hand onto Keith's shoulder and tilted his head up gently so he could meet the exotic colored iris's in front of him. Keith saw how his lips curled up into a smile, how his eyes squinted slightly and the way his brown eyes glowed in love. "I'll take this kid then, Keith was it?" His voice was smoother than caramel and it soothed Keith's soul as his eyes widened slightly in surprise.

"Oh but you haven't seen the other-" Sister Lisa held her hands out in front of herself as she tried to persuade the man to look at the other kids but The wife of Mr. Frederickson shook her head and abruptly cut her off.

"Jared chooses Keith so we'll have him, but may I ask you something? Why are his eyes like that?" Her green eyes rested on Keith as Abigail walked over to stare at the other kids with a rude glare.

Sister Lisa shook her head apologetically, "We don't have records about his birth mother or father so I couldn't answer your question without saying it was a gift from our god above us."

"Actually it's just science lady." Abigail twisted on her heels and pointed her index finger to the roof as Keith looked at her in surprise. "It's probably just a mutation in his genes you know, it isn't a gift from-"

"Abigail!" Mrs. Frederickson placed her hand over the child's mouth to silence her and she then began to apologize profusely to the nun in front of her that looked pale as a ghost.

Keith's attention was turned back to Jared as he sighed in embarrassment. "Ignore Abby, this is why she needs an older brother so that she can learn how to be kind to others..." His brown eyes searched for something in Keith as he scanned his body slowly and stopped on his shirt that was tucked in unlike the other children who let their shirts hand loose. "Why are you the only one with your shirt tucked in?" He asked as he went to reach forward but Keith stepped back and bumped into the wall in caution.

Sister Lisa looked over at Jared in sympathy as Keith stared at him with wide eyes, heart racing. "His previous home... Wasn't the best home Mr.Frederickson. He's got a scar on his right shoulder blade from it, he doesn't like people touching his torso unless he trusts you completely."

Jared and Mrs. Frederickson looked at Keith in concern as he lowered his head. "Who would do something like that to a child?" The wife breathed in horror as she walked over to kneel down beside her husband. Abigail watched from a distance.

"He hasn't had the best homes, so if you're truly wishing to adopt Keith, please give him the best." Sister Lisa stated quietly.

Then Abigail trotted over to look at Keith, her face inches from hers instantly making him scowl in disgust as she stared at him for a painfully long moment before twisting around and pointing to him. "I want him. The others are stupid but he seems cool."

Keith scoffed slightly, "That's like calling the pot calling the kettle black. You're just as stupid as them."

Abigail turned to him in and and crossed her arms over her chest, "Nuh-uh."

"Ya-huh." Keith nodded.

The two adults laughed slightly and then Jared held his hand out to Keith kindly, "What do you say then Keith? Want to join our family?"

°•°•Thirteen Years Old•°•°

"That's my ice cream!" Abigail screeched as she basically jumped over the kitchen island to grab at the popsicle that Keith was, or had been holding.

As the young thirteen year old startled him and reached over to rip the ice cream from her brothers hand she managed to make him lose his grip and drop the last fourth of July pop onto the floor in a quiet thump that was every kids worst nightmare come true. Keith stumbled backwards to get away from his shorter sister as he tried not to fall back from surprise. "Abby! Look what you did you idiot!" He shouted as he regained his balance.

"That was your fault for taking my ice cream!" She angrily shouted as she rushed around the counter to pick it up and toss it into the trashcan.

Keith laughed in disbelief as he threw his hands into the air, "It wasn't ice cream first off, secondly Jared bought it for everyone not just your greedy a-"

"Language!" Abigail shouted, cutting Keith off and she stuck her tongue out and pulled her bottom eyelid down.

Keith's eye twitched slightly as he considered choking the little smartass standing in front of him in shorts and a T-shirt that had her favorite band on it. He slowly crossed his arms and blew out a long sigh as he tried to calm himself. "Whatever Abby, I'll give you my ice cream next time but on one condition."

Her green eyes seemed to brighten at that, she would do anything for chocolate or ice cream. "And what might that be brother dearest?"

Keith cringed at his nickname as she batted her eyelashes at him, "Stop going into my room, I don't like you invading my privacy." He glared at her in suppressed anger.

She stared at him in confusion for a moment before her lips curled up into a devilish smile, "Oh? Is it because you didn't want me to know about the mags under your bed?" She giggled and Keith's face turned bright cherry red as he felt his breath hitch slightly, his eyes widened and he felt like he was suddenly in a sauna.

"Y-you didn't!" He shouted, flustered.

She laughed louder and nodded her head, "I did so I know why you always turn down those stupid love confessions from the girls at school!" She sounded way too excited to be talking about explicit magazines with her brother who happened to be growing into himself finally.

"I-I don't like boys!" He huffed as he covered his face with his hands in embarrassment, his secret was out in the open for his sister to know and Abigail being Abigail, she would eventually tell everyone he was totally and undeniably gay.

She shook her head and rushed over to put her hands on Keith's shoulders. "Don't deny it Keith, and anyways this is perfect! I got the brother I've always wanted and he's gay! Isn't this totally awesome? Now we can like totally talk about the hot guys at school together!" She squealed in excitement and shook Keith's shoulders as her body trembled in excitement.

He looked up to meet her giant green eyes, "But aren't you afraid of others finding out about me?" He whimpered self consciously at the thought of Abigail suddenly abandoning him if the other middle school students found out about him liking boys.

"Nope! Screw them if they hate you for being you." She smirked and then grabbed his hand to pull him over to the couch where she sat next to him and face him with a bright smile. "But you have to answer one question for me."

"What's...what's that?" Keith asked her cautiously. She was being way too accepting of him and the entire situation felt weird to him.

She held up a finger to the roof and straightened her posture, "Do you think Johnathan Straus is undeniably hot?" She asked in seriousness.

Keith was dumbfounded as he stared at his sister with a blank expression, all embarrassment gone from his body and cheeks their normal pale color again. "Uh...yeah?" He said questionably.

She let out a loud squeal and tackled her brother and pushed them onto the couch without caring about Keith's personal space issue. "I can't believe it, I'm so excited Keith!" She squeaked happily.

"What happened while we were picking up dinner?" Mary asked in curiosity as she stepped into the living room that was connected to the kitchen and front hall by a small staircase that led to the front door that she and Jared had just entered through. Her blonde hair was neatly tucked into a professionally done bun and her make up was perfect on her skin.

Their parents had been at a party at NASA for their recently successful launch of their newest Mars Rover named Destiny. They held two bags full of different foods for the two children that were on the couch, Abigail cuddling Keith forcefully while the boy looked sick to his stomach with the girl on him giggling.

"We bonded over a popsicle." Abigail stated simply.

"Keith, want to look at the stars with me tonight again?" Jared asked in a small yawn.

Keith suddenly shoved his sister off and sat up with a giant smile on his face, his eyes bright with anticipation and childish excitement at the mention of star gazing with his father. "Yeah! Can we really do it tonight?"

"How about we all do it and Jared teaches us more about the constellations." Mary said as she placed the groceries onto the island Abigail had basically leaped over only minutes earlier for a popsicle.

"That's so lame." Abigail mumbled under her breath before looking over to see the young boy she spent the last two year with staring at her father in excitement. This was the only time he truly got this excited, when he got to look at the stars. Abigail's frown slowly turned into a soft smile of admiration as she stared at Keith with his mouth curled into a giant smile. "But why not? It'll be Cooler with everyone."
