It had been a long time since he was able to relax, he couldn't truly remember the last time he had taken this much work off. He usually worked all night and day to solve cases as soon as possible. Keith's boots grazed across the top of the thin layer of snow below him, making a satisfying crunch with each step. The sky was grey above them as they crossed through the park silently, it was ironic to Keith to be in such a gloomy setting. It was always like this during his investigations, as if the gods above knew what was happening.
They didn't get to see their friends due to last second decisions made by Allura, she apparently needed to go to the doctor about something so Shiro asked the two to come by another day. "What shall we ever do with all this spare time?" Lance sighed as he put his hands on the back of his head letting out an exaggerated sigh in attempt to get Keith attention.
Keith shrugged as he moved his eyes away from the sky, "I don't know, I want to go back to work I feel weird not doing anything." He stated bluntly earning a displeased look from his boyfriend.
'Boyfriend' was such a weird word to describe him. Sure they were now officially dating but the two haven't really even done anything a couple does except for some awkward and wimpy hugging in a small car. He wanted to experience a real relationship where two partners were emotionally connected with each other, something real. And not the drunk love he had the other night.
Lance rolled his eyes, "You're such a workaholic Keith, you should try to spend time with me more." He threw the detective a smirk.
Keith frowned, "But I'm spending time with you now, isn't that good enough?" He asked in confusion.
"Uh..." Lance looked dumbstruck as he walked next to him. He then itched his chin and let out an awkward laugh, "Yeah, that's what I was suggesting...haha."
'What?' Keith thought to himself as he stared at the tanned man next to him who looked disappointed and humiliated at the same time. Did he have underlying causes to say what he did earlier? Keith spent the last two days with him, what else did he want?
"Anyways I have to work hard on this case, it's a potential serial killer. I don't want the next victims to be anyone we know..." Keith sighed as he began to go deep into thought.
What if one of his friends were next? Pidge should be out of town for college now so he didn't have to worry about the short girl, Hunk didn't even live in this part of the city but rather the higher class end. Shiro and Allura were the only ones besides Lance he had to worry about, they were in his district which meant anything could happen especially if the killer knew he was investigating this case. It was a fear he would lose someone important due to his lack of skill on the field, he was hard on Irene during her training in order to make she would be perfected into the best detective she could be and there was only one year of her training left before she would become a fully fledged detective. He was proud of how great she had become, her evolution from the quirky junior to the more logical detective was satisfying however she had started to slowly go back to her quirky self where she was a complete klutz and where she would sometimes say stupid stuff.
"Speaking of that Keith, the pictures on the board in your office," Lance looked over at Keith with curiosity, "were you trying to trace something back to the killer?" He asked.
Keith suddenly felt energetic, he always felt excited when someone asked about his field of work, it was after all his passion to help people. He nodded and held up a thumb in confirmation, "Yes it is! There was a stolen vase at the scene so we're hoping to find it on sale on eBay or amazon, someplace where Pyxis can remain anonymous and make a profit from his killings."
"Why do you assume Pyxis is a man?" Lance asked another question as if he were interrogating Keith.
Keith raised his eyebrows at Lance and stopped walking for a moment, the cold silence of winter was the only sound around them. "Men or more likely to be serial killers due to them being more prone to emotional issues like anger and frustration. However this doesn't mean Pyxis isn't a woman, it's just a simple deduction." He stated, then bit his bottom lip, "However we may have evidence suggesting that it is a man behind these crimes due to the fact Pyxis single handedly," he looked over at Lance and rolled his hand in emphasis, "from what we know of, killed an entire family. That takes a lot of strength, and they fled the scene soon after executing a victim with a gun so their stamina must be great."
Lance looked as if he had just learned everything about string theory, his face blank and deprived of emotion, Keith's words clearly went in one ear and out the other. "Sooooo," he raised his hand up slowly, "you're saying Pyxis is really strong and fast."
"They're not only that but also mentally fit as well. They made sure that there was nothing to trace back to them." Keith added quickly.
"Well maybe it was someone who had been planning this for a long time, like they're in some sort of organization." Lances blue eyes suddenly widened as he began to act mysterious, covering the lower half of his face with his arm and raising his other hand above his head to wiggle his fingers. "Ooooo, what if Pyxis is a criminal organization and this is just the start of something bigger? Spooky!" He exclaimed before laughing like an idiot.
Keith let out an annoyed sigh and sagged his shoulders, he was happy that Lance wasn't his partner, he probably wouldn't get any work done. "No Lance, serial killers usually work alone in case of their partners being snitches."
Lance dropped his arms to his sides with a dejected face, "You just ruined my joke Keith. Why do you always have to be so serious?" He pouted, his bottom lip sticking out. He then suddenly perked up and ran a hand through his hair. "Yo but what if there was a criminal organization in the city and you could just go straight into their headquarters and just be like," he crossed his arms in front of his body to form an x, "Oshit whaddup it's detective Kogane," he created two guns with his hands and raised them into the air, "and then you could bring justice upon them like" he then began to pretend to shoot his fake guns, "bang bang bang!"
"What was all that?" Keith asked as he placed a hand on his hip.
Lance lifted his hands up defensively, "It was a gun noise! How could you not know Mr.Detective?"
"Well for one guns don't sound like that and two, there's a word for the criminal organization you're speaking of and it's a mafia which is actually very friendly in this city. They don't interfere with police business nor do they kill." Keith pointed out matter-of-factly.
Lance made a look of annoyance and confusion as he looked down at Keith, "What's the point in even being a mafia then?"
"I wouldn't know, I'm just Mr.Detective after all." Keith grumbled as he began to walk again.
Lance let out a noise of frustration as he quickly caught up to fall into step with Keith. "You're so annoying." He mumbled.
"Thank you."
"It wasn't a compliment, mullet." Lance placed a hand on top of Keith's hair and ruffled it like how he would do with a young child. "Oh hey," he smoothed out the black locks once again and shoved his hands into his pockets. "I saw that tonight it was supposed to reach record low temperatures so... You should sleep in the bed tonight to avoid getting sick being out on the couch all night."
Keith's heart skipped a beat and his cheeks warmed up. Lance was basically inviting him to sleep with him tonight. In the same bed. As a couple. On a cold night, this felt like a disaster waiting to happen. He managed to push his explicit thoughts to the back of his mind for most of his day but what would happen if he slept in the same bed as Lance? Would he be able to even handle it?
He decided against it and shook his head, he didn't want to do anything that would start their relationship off weirdly. "I'll just bring out extra blankets to the living room then, thanks for telling me." Keith dug his hands deep into his pockets as he silently cursed himself out in his head.
"Then I'll sleep on the couch with you tonight to make sure you do actually keep warm." Lance winked at him causing the Korean man to blush a noticeable pink.
The couch was small, only one person could lay on it comfortably, what made this tall bean pole think he could fit on it with him? "W-what no! There's no room!" Keith exclaimed as he became flustered.
Lance smirked as he looked down at him from the corners of his eyes, "Then one of us have to lay on the other then huh?"
"N-No!" Keith exclaimed loudly, he was becoming visibly nervous now at the fact that Lance wasn't joking. He knew when he joked and this wasn't his normal joke where he would raise his eyebrows slightly. "It will be uncomfortable for o-one of us to l-lay on the other." He stuttered trying to make up a reason to make Lance stay in the room without him.
"I wouldn't mind being top, it is a dominant role anyways."
That comment was the last thing needed to make Keith become a walking tomato. His entire face and ears flushed a bright crimson red as he looked at Lance with widened eyes. "L-Lance!" He punched him in the shoulder out of the blue, no longer able to control how he took out his emotions. "I'll g-go to the b-bed just shut up!" He shouted before hiding his face with the scarf Irene gave him.
"Ouch..." Lance rubbed his shoulder in pain before he gave a warm smile to Keith. "You're pretty cute when you get all tsundere on me Keith"
"SHUT UP!" Keith exclaimed and shot him an angry look as he glared down at the snow covered ground again. He just wanted to get back home to work on the case as soon as possible, but he knew Lance wasn't going to let that happen.
