Chapter 2- Discover
I woke up under a clear sky. It was sunny and warm. The direct sunlight blinded me for a short moment. Was this crazy adventure just a dream? Probably. I let out a sigh of relief.
But then I realized I wasn't at home at all. I was lying on grass, beside a crossroad. A forest was circling me. I quickly stepped up and noticed the stranger from before in front of me, in the middle of where the four paths crossed, sitting on an old tree trunk.
Where on earth was I? Did we change worlds? No... The correct question is: did I change worlds? Maybe the guy comes from another dimension and that I'm in his dimension... I was always reading fantasy novels, so I had no trouble imagining the craziest ideas. Thoughts raced in my mind. I sure didn't know where I was, but one thing was for sure: I wasn't at home.
I didn't know what to do. Then the guy suddenly spoke:
"Are you alright?" he said with a concerned look on his face.
"Oh... I guess... I'm okay..." I answered. I wasn't injured after all. That was good.
"Great. Come, I'll show you where to go."
I didn't trust this stranger, but I had no better idea, so I came closer to him. He told me to stand right in the middle of the crossroads.
"First, I must present myself," he started, "I'm Jack, Jack Turenne."
"Uh... Nice to... meet you, Jack..." I said. " I'm-"
"You're Zoe Marshall, I know." He smiled.
What? How could he know me? Had he met me before? I observed him. On closer look, he was really beautiful. He had clear brown eyes, his face was fine, even if a lock of his shadow-black hair half-covered one of his eyes. His hair was funky, as if a tornado had passed trough, and short, except for two locks of hair in front that were longer, creating a mysterious style. Jack was wearing a long-sleeved purple-dark shirt, with grey pants. A long cape as dark as his hair on his shoulders completed his outfit.
I definitely hadn't seen him. I would have remembered a gorgeous guy like him. Then I saw something surely not... human.
"You...You... Do you have... CAT ears?" I gasped.
"Yeah," Jack grinned, "I'm the holder of the Cheshire Cat role, you know."
He made his ears move. They were dark black and camouflaged because of his crazy hair.
How... How is that even possible? Then I remembered I probably was in another dimension, after all. Jack could very well have kitty ears without problem.
"Now that we know each other, would you care to play a game?" asked Jack, still smiling. He acted as if I was the most interesting person in the entire world. How could I possibly make him smile like that?
"A game?" I said, not knowing how to react to his invitation.
"Yeah! Let's start with a game of hide and seek!" Jack got up, visibly excited. " You seek! You have to find me, okay?"
"How am I supposed to find you in a world that I don't know AT ALL?" I screamed.
"Oh, I'll give you a hint then," continued the cat-eared man. "Listen well. You have four paths that you can take, right?"
"Yes..."
"Only the right way is left," he said slowly, "the front is the only right way, and the back is the only way left."
After he said his last word, Jack ran away on the front path, from where was coming the strange music, still playing, and quickly disappeared away in the forest. I'm pretty sure I saw a cat tail under his cape as he ran. I sighed. In what world did I just arrived?
