Day 7 | Manhattan- Saint John the Divine & "Chicago"
Thursday, August 17 | 11:13 am
I think we had a morning that was a bit too leisurely. It's now about lunch time and I haven't eaten.
We thought we would walk to this famous bagel place that's supposed to be really good. Saw a couple of cool buildings along the way...
According to my dad, this is a really famous hotel.
We made it to the bagel place, which is called Ess-a-Bagel, but the line is extremely long. Let's see how long we'll be here.
6:20 pm
I think we ended up waiting at least 40 minute before getting the bagels. I remember looking at my phone just before eating and it was about 12:05. The bagel was good. It had a bunch of stuff on it, so it was like a sandwich- salmon, lettuce, tomato, capers, possibly onion.
Afterwards, we decided to take the subway up to the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine. My mom and I read The Young Unicorns by Madeleine L'Engle before the trip because it takes place in Manhattan and specifically the cathedral a lot. We thought it would be cool to see the place we had read about.
The cathedral is really big! Actually, we saw this little one and thought this was it at first. XD
And then there was the view of the large one with an interesting fountain.
It's supposed to be the largest one in the world, which is quite a claim. I will say the entire entrance can't fit in a photo, unless you walk across the street.
Wow. Here's the entire left side.
The inside is very grand, too. Lots of high ceilings, and detailed carvings, but they were having construction so it was kind of loud.
Kitty!!! It's a bobcat :)
Behind the main chapel are seven small ones. I think that's what they call the Octagon, although I'm not sure.
Once we were done exploring, we walked down through Central Park a bit more. We saw the Belvedere Castle.
Sadly you couldn't go up the tower when we were there. We ate some fruit popsicles! There was a guy playing kids songs (5 Little Monkeys, The Wheels on the Bus) near where we were sitting. It was kind of funny.
We walked back to the hotel to wash up and change for this evening's Broadway production- Chicago! We don't know yet what we are doing for dinner. Something quick because there's not a lot of time before the show.
11:06
We ended up just eating dinner at the hotel. I had a good chicken dinner, but my mom's was extremely small! I think they serve mostly artsy food.
We were cutting it close, so we walked quickly to catch the play. We got to the theater with a little extra time. Enough to wait in line.
These seats were really good, maybe the best the entire trip. We had orchestra seating in the middle section about ten rows back, center. The theater was smaller than most of the others we went to, like School of Rock. I didn't like the play itself as much as some of the others. It was really for adults, so some of the jokes and subjects were over my head. I got into the second act a bit more than the first. Maybe I just needed time, I don't know. After the show, I got this picture.
We walked back through Times Square for the last time, and towards our hotel. My dad thought we should get some ice cream, so after hunting about, we found a street vendor selling some. I took mine with us back to the hotel.
We're going pretty much straight to bed because we want to try to do something before the flight tomorrow. I'll sign off. G'night!
