Day 6 | Manhattan- "School of Rock" & The Highline

Wednesday, August 16 | 12:49 pm
Wow, the trip is almost over! Only today, tomorrow, and then Friday is a travel day.

I slept well last night, and was pretty energized this morning. We ran out of cream cheese, so I could only have it on half of my bagel. XD

We took the subway to the neighborhood of Chelsea, where their was a pretty cool mosaic on the ceiling!

What we came to see was the Highline. It used to be an elevated railroad, but they converted it to a walkway and kind of like a park when no more trains would be using it. It's interesting because it's not as park-like as, say, Central Park, but it's also not right on the streets.

We didn't have time to walk the entire way, so we took some stairs down at maybe half way. Grabbed a quick bite to eat at a deli so we could catch the subway. We were supposed to meet the group from yesterday at the theater for School of Rock, because that's what we were going to see!

The theater was pretty cool. It was really big.

Our seats weren't that great this time. We were on the balcony but way off to the side. We had almost the entire left section of row, so I guess where you sat affected your view. The show was good. The company did have kids that were really young as actors, so it was nice that they made it authentic. They were good actors, too! They seemed to know their character well. Be warned, though- it does get loud. I plugged my ears lightly more than a few times.

Since I watched the first part of the movie, I think it helped to know the story. They pretty much did it the exact same (although I couldn't tell you about the end), even quoting directly from the movie. The plot was pretty good. Some parts were a little fuzzy or thin. All in all I liked it, but not as much as Cats. :)

After the show, we explored Central Park on our way to dinner, and saw this cool little clock tower that played songs!

A couple more sights...

Dinner was at a Thai place Amy had thought she had been to before, but maybe it was a different location? Apparently they have a few. I wasn't hungry so I just got an appetizer and snacked off my parents' food. XD

After dinner, they had to head back home because it's a long drive, but my parents and I stopped at a dessert place for some cake! I ate a good warm lava cake :D

On our walk back to the hotel, we saw a filming of some sort of news channel.

The name seems to be "The Five." Is it on channel five? Or because there are five people? I don't know.

Nothing else exciting happened. Reached the hotel and are going to bed. G'night!
