Roadside beauty
Bussing to Tibet requires special permits. Near Tibet doesn't but still allows you to take in the mountains, the earth-tone homes with red paintings, the pyramids of Buddhist flags, roadside yaks, and even the medieval castle towns. I regret not taking a few days to stop in each village and explore.
I bring snacks, figuring the lunch will be meaty. I photograph countryside leisurely. However, when I reach the restaurant, nearly ten separate meat-free dishes await. My buffet plate is stacked and I stuff my face like a squirrel facing winter. Braised eggplant is always a treat. Ethan's still sick.
