National Parks
As a Canadian, I love national parks. My childhood offered freedom to wander the bush, discover secret paths to trickling rivers, and sleep, mosquito-bitten, in tents beneath mountain giants.
Khao Sok National Park is too dangerous for tourists. The rapids on the calm river are too strong. The bush paths are too slippery and difficult to attempt alone. Each adventure comes with a guide and price. Support the local economy.
The gondola-like canoe trip with a guide who speaks minimal English is tranquil. Vibrant flying kingfishers, a Buddhist cave, and inner tubes with drunk tourists float past.
Mosquitoes are consistent.
