Htilominlo celebrates the site where a white umbrella selected a ruler among five brothers.

Bupaya, honours Pyusawti, defeater of the gourd vine plant, one of Bagan's five menaces. Ruined in an earthquake and completely rebuilt. Its true age lost, arguably second century.

Eight monks from the Himalayan Nadmula Cave showed King Kyanzittha the mythical landscape of their travels through meditative powers. Overwhelmed, the king had them build Ananda temple, so unique that further replication was prevented by their executions.  

Workers scrub limestone coating from ancient frescoes. Teak Buddha statues watch each direction.
