Most Chinese museums are free with valid ID. Instills the belief that a country and its people should pride themselves on their culture, art and achievements. On weekends, people arrive in droves to digest the modern art. Red antler chairs, intricate jade carvings, evocative eyes captured in life-like portraits.

They invite international exhibits like early 20th century photography or Mexican artists as interested in national identity and pride as the Chinese. The association surprises me but I seize the opportunity to practise reading everything in Spanish. Dozens of young children sit with sketch pads to recreate his works, sin nudity.
