WARNINGS: mentions of drugs, panic attack, suicidal thoughts
Alex knocked on the door, smiling when Scott opened it. The younger blond let his boyfriend in, kissing him softly before laughing quietly.
"I missed you," Scott murmured, hugging his boyfriend tightly. Alex hugged back, happy to have this boy in his arms. "Date night has commenced."
"Yes it has. Any suggestions?"
"Wizard of Oz and pizza?"
"You know me so well."
Scott smiled, jumping when his pocket knife fell out of his pocket. Alex went to pick it up, but Scott was faster.
"Sorry. I don't like it when people touch it," Scott explained a bit too quickly, shoving it into his pocket. "Anyways, Mitch was in your dad's office?"
"Yeah he wa-wait."
"What?"
How did Scott know that the boy's name was Mitch? Did they have some past friendship?
Or relationship?
"How did you know his name was Mitch?"
Scott was about to answer when tears welled up in his eyes, sobbing quietly as he showed Alex a picture. It was of him and Mitch with Kirstie, the three of them smiling.
Although Mitch's smile looks forced.
"We were the best of friends," Scott answered sadly, sniffing a bit. Alex nodded, the both of sitting down on the couch. "Gosh, we were so close. Kirstie, Mitch, and I used to hang out all the time. All that changed when he.."
"Yes?"
Scott sniffed once more, the tears in is eyes breaking Alex's heart. Scott took a deep breath, looking back at his boyfriend through his blurred vision.
"He-he got into drugs. Kirstie and I tried to stop him, but he didn't listen. He even made us experiment the drugs. It was so bad to the point were Kirstie and I had to go to the hospital because he put bath salts in cocaine. He tried to kill us. We were sent to rehab and came back to school in November. The school let us take our senior photos and we got back into schedule.
"Mitch was okay too. He stopped doing drugs and he didn't pressure us anymore. He was still kind of rude, but we didn't mind. He planned a celebratory sleepover for us and we spent the night at Kirstie's. We-we were having fun until..."
Scott sobbed, wiping his eyes as he breathes heavily. Alex was tearing up himself, feeling hatred grow towards Mitch.
How dare he hurt Scott and Kirstie?
"What happened to him?"
"W-we were playing hide and seek in the woods when all the sudden we heard him scream," Scott continued, his voice cracking at the end. Alex gave him a tissue, tearing up himself. "Kirstie and I ran out to see Mitch laying on the ground with stab wounds all over him. He was crying and begging for help, confused at what happened. Kirstie and I ran to his parents' house after the ambulance picked him up. They were so devastated. They thought they almost lost him. They were so...lost.
"He almost didn't wake up. The doctors said that the knife was close to his heart and if it was any closer, he would have been dead. I almost lost my friend. I couldn't live with myself if that happened."
Scott was instantly brought into a hug, smiling as he pretended to cry. He had Alex wrapped around his finger. He'll make sure that Mitch does not get better because he doesn't deserve any better. He deserved every terrible thing in this world because he is a wimp and a weakling.
And Alex couldn't help but think differently.
Is Scott lying about Mitch?
~~~
It was dinnertime at the Olusolas, which used to be lively and full of laughter.
Now it ended the same every night.
Mitch wouldn't eat, Avi will cry, and Kevin will shut himself off.
And it was in the starting stages.
"Dinner is ready," Avi called out, staring at Mitch. The teenager had a blank look on his face, which wasn't new. "Mitchy, it's time for dinner."
Mitch stood up, going to his chair with a stoic expression. He sat on his chair, picking at his dinner. Avi sighed, feeling the tears well up already.
Not tonight, Avi. You're stronger than that.
"Hey, babe," Kevin responded, kissing Avi's temple sweetly. Avi smiled, sitting down in his chair as Kevin closed his eyes. "Let us say grace."
Mitch closed his eyes, his father's soft voice asking for God to bless their food. As he was praying, he couldn't get their evil stares out his mind.
Those eyes that held every ounce of evil in them as they attempted to murder him.
"Mitch? Are you-"
Mitch stood up, unable to eat his dinner. His stomach was hurting, but he didn't care. He walked upstairs, tears in his eyes as he cried silently. He walked into the bathroom, taking a deep breath before taking off his shirt.
This is your new body.
Scars were littered across his chest, all permanent. They will never disappear, reminding him of the people he used to call his friends.
The lied to him.
He began to trace one, tearing up as went to the one on his clavicle. He used to love his clavicles, but now he is sick of them. He heard Avi crying downstairs, making him cry more as he went to another scar.
Pops cries every night because of me. I hate myself.
Mitch was sobbing quietly, taking off his pants to stare at his prosthetic leg. He sat down, taking it off to stare at the stub that used to be his leg. Scott stabbed him so deeply on his knee that there was no way they could operate on it.
He lost his leg and two friendships that day.
Although they act like they weren't the ones who did it. They 'support' Mitch and come over everyday to see how he was when in reality, they mocked him.
They blamed him for everything.
And he believed it.
He sobbed loudly, his body that was once a piece of art terribly ruined because of two people hurt him. He put his leg back on and pulled his pants up, looking at the deep cuts on his arms. He would never cut himself, but Scott and Kirstie would encourage him too. They wanted him dead and they would never know why.
"Mitch? It's Dad," Kevin called out, knowing that Mitch was doing that scar thing. "Those scars don't define you, buddy. They show how strong you are. You survived."
When I'm supposed to be dead.
Mitch ran his fingers over the scar that was right above his heart, crying silently as he remembered how his parents broke down in tears when they realized that he could have died if the knife went half an inch deeper.
Half an inch.
"Mitch?"
Why couldn't it be half an inch?
"Buddy, please come out."
Mitch wanted to, but Kevin is tall and male.
Like him.
He is scared of his father now and he hasn't even done anything to hurt him. He refused to open the door, crying to himself. Kevin sighed, leaving his son alone.
I deserved to die. I don't deserve to live.
~~~
Avi and Kevin ran to the room Mitch was in, Avi crying loudly as he stared at his son.
His injured son.
"Oh, Mitchy," Avi got out, getting Mitch's attention right away. "I'm here, baby."
"It's hurts, Pops," Mitch managed to get out, crying silently as he tried to ignore the pain. "It hurts, oh my gosh. Hug me, please."
Avi nodded, about to lay down next to his son when the doctors came in. They surrounded Mitch, his scream making everyone jump.
"DON'T TOUCH ME! GET AWAY FROM ME! PLEASE!"
Mitch was fighting back, inconsolable as Avi and Kevin cried in each other's arms. Mitch was screaming, kicking at the doctors until he felt a needle object his arm.
Big mistake.
"NO, GET THAT AWAY FROM ME! I DON'T WANT HEROIN ANYMORE! I'M CLEAN, I'M CLEAN, I'M CLE-"
Mitch finally let the anesthesia consume him, closing his eyes as one more tear escaped. They wheeled him out, Avi falling to his knees as he cries heavily. Kevin was quick to hug him, becoming worried as Avi refused to speak.
"Avi, Mitch will be okay. He's all ok-"
"No he's not! He was stabbed by some freak and I refuse to let that person traumatize him! Kevin, our beautiful son in hurt because of some jerk. I hate them. I going to hurt them."
Avi kept that promised.
